Surviving The Fourth Calamity -
Chapter 771 - 570 Valkin Cannot Die
Chapter 771: Chapter 570 Valkin Cannot Die
"Well done, Fela," the Red Knight patted her proud steed, the red shadow horse, speaking indifferently with her head lowered, "Ah! I really didn’t notice there was someone else around."
"Red Knight!" Valkin looked at the disappearing dimensional gate, turned his head and shouted, "Are you trying to get me killed? I won’t let you get away with this!"
"Ah! Just like you said to Tampas, all those things were done by Bane, nothing to do with you. Why would you care about such trivial matters?" the Red Knight said from her vantage point, looking down on her, "Me too, how would I know that Fela would react so quickly?
Who cares where a horse’s hooves kick?
I was planning to send you on your way with a long lance, but rather than a mere serious injury, perhaps it’s better to help you confront your own enemies."
She lightly tapped the heel of her foot against the proud horse: "Let’s go back, Fela."
Valkin, in his fury, let out a few shrill screams.
Hill could understand his anger; the Red Knight’s shadow horse was quite famous, and charging with a flying kick was her special move.
Hill courteously waited until the esteemed Red Knight disappeared into the horizon before he coldly let the twelve long swords fall directly.
Valkin was no longer capable of breaking free from the binds of the blizzard.
But the smile on Hill’s face had vanished.
His powerful attack, filled with numerous bolts of thunder, was blocked by a sudden burst of flames that filled the sky, and a figure adorned with golden bells on her bare feet, wearing only light veils, slowly appeared, standing in front of Valkin.
"Lyril!" Valkin’s tone carried the joy of a narrow escape.
"Valkin..." the beautiful blond goddess sighed, "Why didn’t you just stay in the Divine Kingdom until it was all over? I can’t always intervene for you..."
Hill’s furrowed brows slowly eased as a young and charming male human appeared beside him, with shoulder-length brown hair and a handsome face bearing a captivating smile. He was clothed in a smooth, splendidly ornate robe, draped with exquisite jewelry.
Last time in Gerns, Miliel didn’t have this appearance; that wandering bard looked much more serious.
Now this was the true visage of Miliel, the scoundrel pegged as the Sea King of Ferun alongside the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Shuni.
With his silver harp in hand, Miliel smiled at Hill and said, "This is our first meeting, isn’t it? Hill from Teraxil. Although Lynn has always said you were very handsome, only upon seeing you do I realize that all praise falls short of your moon-like, serene and stirring visage!"
Truly befitting the God of Singing; although the compliments were tacky, his melodious voice made them sound utterly sincere.
"Greetings, revered Singer," Hill said with an emotionless face, "It’s not the first time I have seen you. I have seen your grandeur in Gerns World."
Miliel stiffened, then said despondently, "Ah! You’ve seen that avatar of mine? Although he has returned, he left me with very little memory, other than endless darkness."
Hill was taken aback, as he had always thought that Miliel’s avatar had safely returned to his Divine Kingdom!
"He was healthy when he left Gerns. It seems the road back to Toril wasn’t safe," Hill could only answer with a forced smile.
And then his mind raced.
Could it be that Shaer intercepted Miliel on the way?
What did she want to conceal? Miliel should only be aware of the devil’s actions!
That avatar of his in Gerns must have seen more than just a little.
Wait, Hill suddenly realized something, Miliel had originally sent out his avatar to help the former Mystra, not the current Midnight.
No wonder that avatar met with such a dire end, and he had shown so little reaction.
Hill lowered his eyelids slightly and asked indifferently, "Did the Singer and the Goddess of Joy come together to save the avatar of Valkin? It’s not her true form; even if it dies, it can’t affect her much, can it?
I cannot take such treatment lying down."
Hill’s ice storm had completely sealed off the area above and below the Cloud House. Even with the arrival of these two deities, he had not unlocked it.
Had it not been for Valkin sacrificing his own Divine Artifact avatar, he would not have found a chance to open the dimensional gate.
Hill was certain that the cloud of Gold Coins must have been created using all the Faith Power of the Ferun Great Land; for Valkin to use it again, he would have to summon the true body of his Divine Artifact from his Divine Kingdom to explode it once more.
Hill indeed had a good relationship with Lynn, and Miliel had always been courteous to him, but this was not enough for Hill to let Valkin go.
The grudge between him and Valkin began with Valkin’s first offense.
Yet upon coming to Toril, Valkin, who had angered many, did not dare counter the other deities and absurdly took his frustrations out on Hill.
Hill looked coldly at Valkin with a sneer.
The avatar of Marla had completely fallen silent; nothing could be heard on the Cloud Ship except the awful sound of the Demigod Vine penetrating the corpse with its dense tangle of tendrils to feed.
Out of the corner of his eye, Miliel glanced at the tightly wrapped branches and leaves and smiled bitterly, "Lyril is my closest friend, and I couldn’t possibly refrain from helping her.
We are aware that Valkin truly went too far this time, and any retaliation from you would be normal."
But she could only come to appeal for mercy. If she lost this avatar, Hill would truly become weak, and her Divine Kingdom might even collapse into the Main World, turning her back into a Saint once more.
She behaved so foolishly this time, so many people saw it, her Faith Power might really crash.
Once fallen, it would be really hard for her to reach the Stellar Realm again.
Hill had deceived Lyril, who always thought that her old friend was hiding in the Divine Kingdom, commanding believers to cause trouble in Anmur!
Recently, Hill had been trying to recapture the believers she once entrusted to Lyril, and a lot of incidents had occurred in Anmur.
Lyril truly didn’t expect that she would have the time to trouble you, Bane’s influence is too strong, we won’t let him off."
Hill listened to this messy speech, still not understanding why, if Hill was troubling Lyril, they would come together to save her life.
"Lyril has always felt a bit guilty towards Hill," Miliel finally sighed. "She used to be really close to Hill when Hill was passionate, lively, lovely, and attractive, not at all like the person she has become.
Lyril has always thought that, if she hadn’t helped Hill preserve Divine Power back then, Hill might have honestly gone through the Years of Turmoil and perhaps nothing would have gone wrong.
Although, I don’t think so.
Hill has been deeply influenced by her Divinity, always wanting to exchange the smallest price for the greatest benefit. She also believes that every creature in the world must trade, that no one would ever refuse her."
Miliel turned to glance at Lyril, who was softly instructing Hill not to provoke Hill any further, completely ignoring the twelve swords with their cold, threatening points still all aimed at them.
"Perhaps you think Lyril regards Hill too highly, but she truly believes that Hill just needs to calm down to find her former self," Miliel shrugged his shoulders. "And as Deities of Toril, we actually don’t really wish to push her too hard.
Besides, this world always needs the Goddess of Commerce. It’s better Hill has it than Bane taking it away."
In Miliel’s words, there were too many hints, and his "we" was not only Miliel’s allies.
Moreover, the Tyranny God Bane, indeed had a chance to extend his hand to trade.
Hill lowered his eyelids, knowing he could not do anything to Hill today.
The Toril Gods, actually all knew about Hill’s ordeal in the Abyss after the Years of Turmoil, but none of them rescued her, even acting as if it never happened.
Lyril did make a move, those adventuring parties that went to the Bottomless Abyss had actually accepted her commission to save Hill.
But everyone understood that Lyril’s appeals to other deities had failed, otherwise, she wouldn’t have relied on adventurers.
But what had this to do with Hill?
He just showed an elegant and polite smile: he was an outsider, not concerned about the harm the local turmoil brought, Hill only cared about his own safety. His own interest.
"Hill cannot fall to Lower Rank Divine Power," Miliel stated sharply. "She will only fight against Demons in the future. The compensation you deserve, we will send to Agleya City, it will definitely satisfy you.
We’re very aware of your wealth, we won’t settle with Gold Coins."
Hill turned to look at Hill.
Not knowing what Lyril had said to her, Hill, supported by the Goddess of Joy, calmly said, "I’m sorry for this time, I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on you.
From now on, my Church and I will stay away from your area, never again harbouring thoughts of revenge, I swear on my Divine Fire and Divinity."
After some thought, Hill waved his hand, recalling the swords, while the swirling Blizzard directly headed towards Ambori.
Lyril’s hands suddenly raised, her movements light and carefree as she danced, the bells on her fingers ringing clearly, her dance filled with joy and happiness.
Miliel quickly plucked the Silver Harp to accompany her, singing a joyful song with his perfect vocals.
Hill finally realized this was a blessing for him.
The Goddess of Joy was blessing him that no matter what happened, he would never despair.
Watching Miliel conjure a Dimensional Gate ready to take Hill and Lyril away, Hill smiled, "The Red Knight said there were three enemies, why then do you still think Marla would succeed?"
Hill said with a wooden face, "Normally, shouldn’t you think the third would be Olypher?
If she hadn’t just agreed to appear in the Land of Extreme Frost to intercept you, we might have united as four."
Lyril looked at her friend with a helpless expression, it was obvious Olypher knew that Hill had never gone north, so she made a convenient excuse.
The Frost Maiden isn’t a penguin that can only nest in the Arctic Circle! She could come out anytime she liked!
She gave Miliel a look, hurrying him to leave with Hill, better not to continue embarrassing themselves.
Hill looked towards Ambori, who had not yet struggled out from the frozen seawater.
He had given Ambori so much time, yet she hadn’t managed to do something as simple as melt the ice!
Is that not the most basic ability of a Water Deity?
