Chapter 409: Chapter 208: As Long as It Exists, It Has Value
William had originally intended to vacate the residence behind the Lord’s Mansion for Adrian and move back to the King’s Ship with his people.
Since Adrian had sent people to build this place himself, he should be very familiar with it.
However, Adrian quickly rejected the offer.
Although he spoke graciously, William knew that the fellow simply found the Lord’s Mansion too ugly.
The Lord’s Mansion was the last line of defense on the ground; it couldn’t possibly be built with aesthetics in mind over protection.
At that time, William had given it the shape of Crown Bastion.
He believed that as long as Space Crystals were used, and coupled with Space Magic, this fortress covering two thousand square meters would be sufficient for use.
A smaller place was better for defense.
But it seemed that Fran had made many changes, not just in appearance.
It appears that she also made many alterations inside, making it very convenient to live in.
After William moved in with the noble ministers, he found it much more comfortable than living on the King’s Ship.
Although they were all in the same building, if William did not want to see outsiders, he could roam freely in this castle without anyone being able to see him.
The pentagonal bastion, which Fran had decorated to look like a sunflower, already pleased William greatly.
But it seemed Adrian still disdained it.
Just because of its silver-black color!
Is Adrian even more delicate than Bixir?
William curled his lip; he could not understand why Fran looked so displeased when he heard that he only wanted a silver-black castle.
Where was it ugly?
The steel tide is so beautiful!
The taste of Mages is indeed strange, and it had nothing to do with him.
Since Adrian had decided not to stay, William did not hesitate to continue living there.
Fran and Adrian both seemed to like arranging the interior of the house with interconnected rooms and smooth circulation.
Even in such a fortress, William felt as if he were living in the Saral Royal Palace; it was still very comfortable.
However, he had thought that Adrian was planning to live in a Cloud House like the one Hill had!
After all, as long as he didn’t leave the city, he could use the control core of the Lord’s Mansion.
Unexpectedly, Adrian had erected a Magic Tower in the central open area of the Lord’s Mansion.
William knew this tower; it was the one in which Fran had stayed in Keslow. So it originally belonged to Adrian?
He remembered that this tower was of Legendary Level.
The Alchemist Master is certainly not poor, indeed!
No wonder money didn’t suffice — you really can’t move Adrian without it.
William, standing by the window, watched Spencer come around from behind and sighed, "Adrian’s employment costs are really expensive! The Alchemist Master is indeed not so easily swayed."
Spencer’s mouth twitched into a smile, but the events of the day did not leave him in any mood to rejoice.
Not a single mention of the Spencer Family by William weighed heavy on his heart.
Although the family had a few fools, most of its members were quite rational.
But William, it seemed, did not wish to get too involved.
In William’s eyes, the Spencer Family was no longer a cohesive whole.
Although Naven also knew that over the years, the Spencer Family had benefited quite enough, and there wasn’t much more to be gained.
But now, without William’s special attention, the predominantly military-minded Spencers would find it difficult to maintain their current status in the power struggle.
In the past, there was no issue because the nobles stationed in the area did not dare offend them.
In Saral, whatever news William wanted to know, no one could keep it hidden from him.
Naven shook his head; William had already been quite good to the Spencer Family, and it was the family who had failed to seize the opportunity.
They even let fools dance right in front of William.
It also proved that the Spencer Family’s power was only enough to get them this far.
Although regrettable, he would definitely not make things difficult for William over such a matter. Let this be the end of it!
"Naven, from now on, you’ll stay by my side and handle matters related to the Undead Tribe," said William indifferently, "A lot of things are not worth getting involved with. They don’t deserve it."
If the Spencer Family truly valued Naven, they could have controlled the situation by any means.
Naven, always away from home, didn’t have much say in the Spencer Family, yet being by William’s side, he reaped the most benefits.
Naven’s strength wasn’t the strongest among his cousins initially, but now, he was almost legendary.
The others could only regret that when they sent people to William’s side, why didn’t they think of going themselves.
There will always be fools who think that if it were them, maybe things would have turned out better, maybe they could have taken the family even further.
Unlike Naven, who only knew to listen to William’s commands, without any skill of his own.
To some who lacked clarity, it seemed as if these benefits were provided by their grace.
Even if the Clan Leader and the Elders knew this wasn’t right, they would still be somewhat biased in the moment, and although they would punish those who offended Naven, they would be lenient.
Naven understood what William meant, "I know. The ones who aren’t by your side are always the last to be remembered. Wasn’t that what you used to comfort me with? I’ve come to terms with it now."
William waved his hand and looked out the window at Adrian, who flew towards the Forest Array.
"What’s he doing? Looking for Hill?" William turned his head to Spencer, "Do you know what’s happening? Why he ran off to the Forest Array to find Hill. Do those big trees connect to Hill?"
"They do not. But Hill has a branch of the Legendary Lily of the Valley with him," Spencer said with a faint smile, "He told me if I need him, just go directly to the Baiteng vines in the Forest Array, the ones with white bell-shaped flowers. Once he hears it, he’ll fly down."
"I feel like you’re mocking me," William frowned slightly.
"I am!" Spencer admitted straightforwardly, "I knew that once your eavesdropping came to light, The Wise Ones would think of other ways. They’d rather go through some trouble than have someone listen in on their conversations whenever they please."
"Then I have no other choice!" William argued, "The divine spiritual power extends far on its own. When I can’t control it well, I naturally hear everything.
I do know not to listen where I’m not supposed to, but there’s nothing I can do if I accidentally overhear. I really try my best to contain it!"
"If the topic interests you, would you tune it out?" Spencer asked skeptically.
"What’s the harm in listening to gossip!" William’s eyes widened, "They’re gossiping with others, why shouldn’t I be allowed to listen!"
Spencer sneered disdainfully, "That’s exactly why Hill won’t let you listen! He’d rather get the message directly and find someone. When you’re nearby, he absolutely won’t use the communicator carelessly."
William sighed, "Then there’s nothing I can do, just have to tolerate each other."
Spencer looked at his King with an odd expression, thinking, you really have the nerve to say that!
Adrian flew out of the castle and found a white bell-flower in the Forest Array: "Hill, I’ve decided to stay here as the City Lord for 5 years. Where are you?"
Hill, sitting on a cloud, nearly dropped his Alchemical Pen in shock. What kind of benefits had Adrian received to take such a reckless move?
Considering that members of the Undead Tribe would also take on the role of City Lord, did William offer Adrian a Magic Tower above the legendary level?
Hill quickly checked his position and realized he hadn’t drifted far. He promptly abandoned his carefully chosen cloud and directed his Cloud Ship to fly back to the camp.
Adrian had already soared into the sky and was finding his way.
He landed on the Cloud Ship, looked at Hill whose eyes were wide with curiosity and who was showing a rare hint of childlike wonder, and tossed out the ring in his hand.
Hill examined it thoroughly, "Not bad. His Majesty the King has really spent a fortune this time."
"He wanted to test if I would accept a third of the reward, but I’m not foolish," Adrian walked into the room and saw Hill’s table full of Cloud Ship cores, "Are these things easy to sell?"
"The Undead Tribe likes them. They’re used to spending money for enjoyment," Hill shrugged, "Even though they’re expensive, even the poorest Magister could afford them if they grit their teeth!"
"Magisters, how many of them are willing to spend that much money? They’re busy building Magic Towers!" Adrian sat on the sofa, laughing, "Those constructing towers count every Gold Coin."
"Speaking of which, these materials are enough for you to build a Legendary Magic Tower," Hill tossed the ring back to Adrian, "What do you plan to do with them?"
"While the teacher isn’t minding me, I’ll make some useless things," Adrian squinted, gazing at the sky outside.
"Nothing is useless!" Hill asserted without hesitation, "Aren’t you on good terms with that Young Master? When you finish making your toys, show them to him. The Undead, as long as they like something, they couldn’t care less if it has practical value."
Adrian laughed without words, "You trust me too much! I don’t even know if I can make it."
"Uncle Adrian! Even if you’re not an Alchemist Master in objects, you’re still far better than most of those who craft Alchemy items in this world!" Hill felt Adrian was being too modest, "You’re not crafting Demi-God Artifacts or Legendary Treasures! How could you fail? At most, it won’t meet your own high standards, but that doesn’t mean it lacks value."
Adrian blinked, "You’re right. I’ve been working on the teacher’s blueprints for so long, I seem to have become a bit foolish! Even Hill couldn’t possibly succeed on the first try, right?"
"I would definitely succeed on my first try!" Hill pouted, "Because I’m lucky. There’s no way I’d make a wrong choice!"
Adrian felt he might be irritated to death by this little rascal.
Hill really knew why Adrian failed!
Adrian truly always failed at making choices.
The direction of Elements’ flow within nodes, one wrong move, and everything goes wrong.
"Why does His Majesty the King insist on you being this City Lord?" Hill asked curiously.
"The conflict between the Nobles and the Undead Tribe needs someone who can suppress it," Adrian said with a smile, "Unless a legendary figure is willing to step down and take this role, they can only choose me."
As he saw Hill deep in thought, Adrian promptly shared why Spencer wasn’t suitable for the position.
"Life’s path, indeed, allows for no missteps," Hill commented, "The Spencer Family, having been illustrious for so long, still made a wrong move, and their ascent has come to an absolute end."
