Surviving The Fourth Calamity -
Chapter 403 - 202: Taking the Stairs Up and Pretending to Be Deaf and Dumb
Chapter 403: Chapter 202: Taking the Stairs Up and Pretending to Be Deaf and Dumb
Neither Karula nor Olivia noticed the tiny bell hanging behind them in Baiteng Village.
In this place, the emergence of magical plants was all too common.
Hill was intently listening to the conversation between Olivia and Lady Karula.
When Fran introduced the President of the Mage Association earlier, he also spoke about the current state of the Mage Association and this very scheming Lady Karula.
The Lily of the Valley hanging by his window seemed to have heard as well.
So, when it spread throughout the Forest Array, discreetly hiding among Baiteng’s branches, upon hearing this conversation, it immediately erected a communicator bell by the window Hill was leaning against.
Hill almost laughed out loud listening to Olivia’s cautious answers.
This girl seemed to have become much more prudent after being tricked too many times.
Everything she said was true, but it contained no useful information, at least not the kind that Karula was looking for, not a single word of it.
Lady Karula seemed to want to hear about the weaknesses of the Undead Tribe that the Priest of the God of Time and Space had observed over a long period, or her discontent with William’s punishment, not how capable the Undead Tribe was, how friendly and meticulous they were in their dealings.
Meanwhile, Olivia was consistently informing Lady Karula about the user guide for the Undead Tribe.
All sorts of taboos, all sorts of common knowledge, all ending with a sentence: "Of course, all hiring tasks of the Undead Tribe are reviewed by our Lord’s divine artifact, and they absolutely won’t accept any that It doesn’t approve.
But hasn’t the Mage Association already come to an agreement with His Majesty the King? As long as the task isn’t inclined towards evil, the Divine Artifact probably won’t prevent the Undead Tribe from accepting mages’ tasks."
Hill didn’t know what expression Karula had listening to the end, but he truly couldn’t help but laugh.
Indeed, Olivia had been deceived many times, but that was because her greed clouded her judgment.
The Duke Obastian could drag her down, but that was because of the huge bait of the future King of Saral that caught Olivia’s attention.
If she really were that dumb, Adrian wouldn’t have chosen her to go to Hill’s town in the first place.
The people of the Mage Association weren’t that attractive.
Besides, Hill had long felt that Olivia didn’t like mages very much.
She’s much more aggressive when dealing with mages!
Hill thought with a sigh.
Across the bell, the two women were still clashing.
The topic had moved from the Undead Tribe to the doctrines of space and time.
When Olivia answered, she didn’t include a shred of her own understanding, responding to Karula entirely with the content in the doctrines.
No matter how opulent and free Karula made the life of a mage sound, Olivia showed no interest whatsoever.
She would occasionally say things like, "That’s too much!"
"Mages are living too freely!"
"Even if I’m punished, I still think Saral suits me better, it’s so safe!"
"Low-level professionals are better off living in Saral."
Hill stroked the joyfully ringing bell and thought, Olivia may always make the wrong choices, but when it comes to her own survival, she really hasn’t made any catastrophic mistakes!
However, she fell for the trap nonetheless.
After Karula went in, she used a Soundproof Array.
She acted as though she had arranged it with Olivia.
If she succeeded, to outsiders, Olivia would probably become her informant.
Adrian’s family has always leaned towards mages, with few followers of the God of Time and Space, but many devotees of the God of Knowledge.
If Karula had a good relationship with the people of the Knowledge Church, she could pull even them into the fray.
She might not know others, but when Olivia was in trouble a while ago, the people she sought help from were from the Knowledge Church; this female mage probably knew that as well.
Hill sighed silently, Olivia always feared authority.
If she had simply excused herself and walked into the crowd when Karula came over, she would have truly been fine.
This girl might not be very capable herself, but she’s connected to a fair number of people and powers.
No wonder there are always people trying to get to her.
Fortunately, Adrian cleared his family’s debt of gratitude a long time ago; otherwise, it really would be quite troublesome.
Hill smiled softly, too bad, this was Hill’s Forest Array.
Karula’s Soundproof Array was like loneliness incarnate.
She probably didn’t even know the abilities of the Gingko Tree.
If magic arrays could be used in the Forest Array, why would the Undead Tribe even need to use the Lily of the Valley to separate spaces?
The Forest Array of the Nature Warlock isn’t an Illusion Technique, it’s a summoning spell.
Most of the Ginkgo trees here are indeed of Mage Level, but there are also many Legendary Ginkgo Trees.
In here, magic can be used, but only in the form of instant magic.
Sustained magic would be neutralized and cleared.
Alice can use it because she’s close enough to Hill.
But others, especially those opposed by Hill, can’t use even Legendary Spells; the Ginkgo Forest probably only took 1 minute to render Karula’s array ineffective.
So, those mages standing on the outskirts were all listening to the clash between the two women.
Although Olivia was just defending constantly, after listening to so much blabber from the Undead Tribe, the words that occasionally slipped out of her mouth were enough to infuriate the Legendary Mage Karula.
From a distance, Hill could see the mages almost all leaning in, smiling as they listened.
Their confrontation was swift, and upon realizing she had underestimated the notorious fool Olivia, Karula decided to retreat.
With due respect, Olivia bid farewell to the Female Mage who had fished for information half the day and flopped down, "Damn it! How stupid did I sound? Was it so widely circulated? Even the people from the Mage Association know now!"
Hill had Lily of the Valley cut off the contact and silently answered in his mind, All Gods probably know by now. The Noble Church has probably spread your little incident everywhere, right?
At this point, Olivia was almost synonymous with "silly woman."
It’s not really Karula’s fault for being so obvious.
Olivia’s intelligence seems to have been downgraded to the level of a low-rank Magical Beast amidst the waves of rumors, right?
Karula must have realized that everyone heard what she did.
She quickly returned with a few people to that airship shaped like a bloated fish.
The Legendary Mages also began to leave in twos and threes.
Hill took mental note of the first batch to leave.
There is definitely something wrong with that woman.
Karula probably doesn’t realize that the Undead Tribe didn’t occupy that spot in the Forest Array as a mere resting room for no reason.
Within the entire Forest Array, there were sixty-six nodes, and each node was where the array’s effects were strongest.
If the Undead sat there, their healing speed would be the fastest.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t bother to station themselves in the Forest Array just for the sake of claiming territory.
Each node was seized amidst blood and carnage.
However, to avoid trouble, they either held their own tournaments or went back to the Saral Royal Castle’s arena to engage in a thorough contest.
Many in the Central City were simply unaware of what had happened.
That "Self-Cultivation of the Working Class" took Olivia to a node that, although not among the strongest, was still in the forefront.
For the Undead Tribe, it offered the best healing effect, but for these Mages, it meant the effectiveness of banishing evil and repairing bodily damage was stronger than elsewhere.
Although Karula might have been hiding herself by some means, she decided to give up further entanglement with Olivia because the effect of the treasure was reaching its limit.
The keen Magical Plants sensed a trace of aura leaking from her.
Evil and dark.
Yet somewhat different from a Demon.
I wonder whose minion of the Evil Gods she is.
It’s not that feeling of chaos so intense that it makes one sick.
Yet, because Karula was the first to leave, those Mages who were enduring in the Forest Array also followed suit and returned.
Hill examined the six or seven people who quickly walked away carefully.
Legendary Mages indeed all have their own aces up their sleeves.
Not a single one of them could be easily identified by their Faction.
Hill could only memorize the individuals for now, with the intent to stay away from them should they meet again.
Hill understood that, even if these people were from the Evil Faction, it didn’t mean they would be killed along with the president.
Listening to Fran’s words, it was clear that to the president, whether evil or good, there was no difference in his heart.
As the light of the Sun faded, the Mages finally completely left the Gingko Forest.
Some flew to the Sunflower Fields next to the Forest of the Elves, collecting some seeds.
Even mocked by the Undead, they showed no change in expression.
Now, whether it is the Deities or Mages, everyone knows to ignore what the Undead says.
Even the God of Nobility, who once was so domineering that no one could mention Him casually, has also excluded the Undead from His sense.
This was the first time the God of Nobility, who once pursued a Legendary Great Magician who offended Him for years with lightning strikes, had actively retreated.
This event was more surprising than when He fell to The Mortal Realm and then reascended the Divine Throne.
So unless they are directly insulted, no one will care what the Undead say.
Hill watched the strange airship lift into the sky and fly toward the North in the dark of the night, filled with curiosity.
What does this president, who plans to blow up the Mage Association, intend to do?
But soon, he lost interest in those matters.
Adrian had led his people to preliminarily complete the construction of the Central Castle.
The exterior and foundational structures were all completed.
Even the Lord’s Mansion had taken shape.
Olivia, who walked right into their hands, had been drafted for labor, taking inventory of materials to prepare for the construction of the Sub Temple of the Space-Time Church.
Fran had been busy for days, and the result was that Hill didn’t want to step into this castle at all.
A sliver of consciousness inside him was desperately warning him.
It was a threat to Hill, even as a Legendary, to his life.
Hill felt it for a long time and suspected it could isolate space, completely blocking his escape routes.
William seemed to be spurred by the fact that those Legends could come and go in his Royal Capital at will.
Hill felt that if it were him, with such a powerful Magic Array at his disposal, he too would be willing to work for William for free.
Fran’s actions this time round, although they cost a lot of effort, were definitely worth it.
