Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 401 - 200: The Wheel of Feng Shui Turns, Where Fate Resides!

Chapter 401: Chapter 200: The Wheel of Feng Shui Turns, Where Fate Resides!

Draculus glanced at the silent William and knew that he could understand but did not agree with his views.

In William’s eyes, human life seemed quite important, and even if there were mistakes, they had to be weighed for their severity.

Draculus wondered what kind of naive world had nurtured him!

Why should a powerful being bother with why ants err?

It would be normal to crush them all with a slap, and being able to pick out the entirely innocent ones was already a sign of kindness.

But thinking about it, it was normal, not just because he was still young.

Draculus had long speculated that the God of Time and Space and his supposed self from this "otherworld" could not possibly be real, bringing back the soul from that otherworld.

It was more like a soul split by the deities, growing another self.

This world, although its laws were chaotic, would never acknowledge people from another world.

They could utilize powerful forces to occupy part of the laws, just like dwarves and elves.

But it was absolutely impossible for them to be adored by the entire world.

In cases like William’s, who could almost be considered a Child of the World, there was only one possibility.

When the God of Time and Space thought he was utterly doomed, he cut off a part of his purest soul before slipping into complete unconsciousness and sent it back to his original world.

When he sought someone to receive a fragment of a soul, he always approached the living.

Only the souls of the living could so easily split a part, which could also be easily replenished later.

The soul of a deceased person simply couldn’t be split at all.

Yet, mysteriously, at the last moment, the God of Time and Space chose a deceased soul.

And he brought this soul back to his own world and effortlessly planted it into William’s body.

And the world just accepted it as such.

The projection of the World Will generally does not display the experiences of other individuals, however close, simultaneously.

Unless, in its judgment, these two could be considered one person.

Even though their characters might differ due to different experiences, the discrepancy between the dispositions of William and the God of Time and Space wasn’t too great.

The experiences of the God of Time and Space had been thoroughly scrutinized over the years, and it was easy to discern that he was a person with strong convictions and a significant sense of right and wrong.

Although it was unclear what type of world they originally came from, at the very least, the lives of ordinary people were highly valued there.

It must have been a peaceful yet powerful world.

Even the powerful had to abide by certain rules.

Therefore, even after being in this world for so long, both the God of Time and Space and William still harbored a compassionate heart towards ordinary people.

If they hadn’t known that ordinary people who abide by the world’s rules and basic laws deserved their protection, Draculus would have suspected that the two of them would have completely joined the Kind Alignment.

They wouldn’t, these two were a bit racist, Draculus thought to himself; whether elves or dwarves, including magical beasts, seemed to be outside their scope of kindness.

It had a bit of a ’not of our kind, their fate is none of our business’ implication.

But they also had no desire to infringe on others’ territories, once they confirmed their own domain, they reached no further.

Noah would have easily been able to annex Saral.

Normal ambition, curiously reined in by themselves, was truly unfathomable integrity.

Draculus casually shifted his gaze; he did not plan to dwell much on divine matters.

Compared to the past, when he could only ponder the life and death of worlds and constantly worry about when their ultimate collapse would occur, now, with so many deities to take responsibility, having to act merely as an enforcer was indeed blissful.

He fretted like an old man on his deathbed.

Despite the fact that he still had a long life ahead!

Draculus stood up and took his leave from William.

He also tossed a ring to Fran, filled with diagrams and magic books.

Having spent so many years in the starry sky, he had come up with numerous novel ideas about alchemy during his bouts of boredom.

But some he just couldn’t accomplish himself.

How should it be said, his own path in alchemy had indeed reached its limits.

Otherwise, he would not have taken interest in the legacy of the disciple he had once fallen out with.

If his own path was unworkable, he wanted to look back and see if someone had succeeded on a different path.

Although he would not change his views, just looking wouldn’t hurt.

Unexpectedly, the disciple himself lacked talent, yet had found a worthy successor.

Better than his own students by far.

Rarely did a useful one emerge among the disciples’ grandchildren, young as he was, his skills in alchemy already exceeded his own.

Draculus felt a bitter sentiment, as if he had lived those hundred thousand years in vain.

But it didn’t matter, once Fran figured it out, he could simply learn the fully formed Array, wouldn’t that be better?

After sending Draculus off, William looked at Fran beside him, "I thought your teacher was a destitute alchemist?"

"In the wilderness, anything is possible," replied Fran noncommittally.

William understood that during his travels, Fran had acquired an alchemy lineage.

What kind of Son of Fortune was this? To go out and just happen to meet an Alchemist Master looking for a successor!

And then to carry a strong mentorship lineage as well.

Although this mentorship seemed of little use, from the sound of it Draculus rarely bothered unless it was Fran who possessed high aptitude; he wouldn’t care otherwise.

But even because he saw Fran’s high qualifications and regarded him differently, Fran no longer needed to worry about the Mage Association.

No wonder he acted so assertively, completely disregarding the people from the Mage Association.

"Draculus is a very pure mage," Fran said slowly, "He only shows kindness to mages with aptitude. He remains polite to those of the same status, but in his heart, he doesn’t care about anything."

"Of course, I know he’s not a good person," William said flatly, "Pure neutrality isn’t something a normal person can maintain steadily."

Fran understood what William meant, ordinary people approach things with some biases, pure neutrality implies almost a lack of emotion.

Apart from the truth of the world and his own freedom, Draculus really didn’t care about anything else in his heart.

Since William knew that this president wasn’t someone to ally with, Fran didn’t want to say much.

He hadn’t known before that he had such a support.

By the time the legends found out, it would be useless anyway; he wasn’t going to join the Mage Association.

If they really provoked a major incident requiring Draculus to act, it had to involve enemies above the deities. Fran couldn’t really count on him for much, he could only rely on himself.

So he really didn’t want to mention it.

If William hadn’t suddenly asked him to find Draculus, he wouldn’t have taken the initiative to contact him.

Fran touched the ring in his hand, though having gained so much knowledge was quite good.

Even if Draculus actually wanted him to help with some objects and arrays, it was very worthwhile for Fran.

Knowledge was the most valuable wealth.

He wanted to go into seclusion again.

"I wonder what he could give me as compensation," William mused.

The Gods of Time and Space are famously affluent; the president couldn’t possibly be unaware.

He would definitely give something special enough to compensate for William’s kindness.

William really hadn’t expected that someone would actually abide in a completely neutral faction.

With the Mage Association being so chaotic, it seemed understandable now!

Although they didn’t know what Draculus’ inner balance was, those years of the Mage Association must have still been on the balance he maintained.

But since this was someone who didn’t want to owe anyone favors, William just waited for the great things coming his way.

Fran also bade farewell to William; he planned to speak a few words to Hill first.

Draculus was a bit interested in Hill, and he was worried about a potential sudden attack.

It was better to give Hill some heads up.

So the blithely welcoming Hill, who was his own grandfather, was already utterly confused and bewildered.

Why did he feel that this trip to Central City was like a trip to recognize relatives?

But he understood what Fran meant.

This president acted quite spontaneously.

Fran was worried he might suddenly come looking for him.

And since they weren’t closely acquainted, they were at most slightly connected strangers.

In events, they might be sought for help, but they couldn’t be relied upon.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have just left without a word after Fran refused to switch Alchemy Schools.

Seeking help would depend on whether he had the time and mood.

He might help casually, but he might also simply ignore the matter.

"Don’t tell Adrian," Fran instructed Hill, who was slumped on the couch in deep thought.

"Uncle Adrian wouldn’t think of him as a backer anyway," Hill said dissatisfiedly, "He’s not that foolish."

"I’m not worried about him being dependent. I know he wouldn’t be so naive.

It’s because Adrian can’t change his noble habits.

If he really knew about this, he would think about how he could exploit it," Fran shook his head, "That would be seeking his own destruction. That

man is not someone to be used, and if Adrian really dares reach out, he wouldn’t even know how he died.

Rather than let him know and fret daily about why he can’t exploit the situation, it’s better if he knows nothing at all.

We’ll speak only if necessary."

Seeing Hill nod, Fran asked him, "Has your cat already followed that black panther?"

Hill said with a sad smile, "Yes, she left! She left very happily!"

"I thought you would stop her."

"Of course not!" Hill said with a gentle smile, "I always tell the magical beasts that within my domain, they are free to come and go as they wish. That includes Alice. My only worry is that Merkel’s ambitions might make their lives difficult.

Alice always had everything she needed here, but outside, no matter how well Merkel treats her, she’ll only end up living rough."

"Nature Warlock!" Fran said helplessly, "I just can’t understand your way of thinking. A mage wouldn’t let something useful to him leave."

"Maybe it’s because in grandfather’s eyes, they are only tools.

But in my eyes, they are also thinking creatures. Although not human, they also deserve respect," Hill said lightly, "Nature has indeed greatly influenced me. Even before, I never liked harming sentient beings."

Even without fully integrating into nature, Hill had long become a true Friend of Nature.
