Chapter 74: The Trap Souls (2)

Medeia and the others hid behind the debris. They silently watched the horde of undead that wouldn’t stop ramming their bodies into the barricade.

"I’ll start now," Lucian said.

He opened the tops of the barrels and the gasoline flew through the air, guided by Lucian’s telekinetic power. The gasoline splashed over the horde of undead near the barricade.

The grotesque creatures didn’t react, their lifeless groans continuing as the liquid soaked into their rotting bodies.

"Wait," Lucian muttered, his hand still raised as he directed the gasoline to cover as many of the undead as possible.

When he thought it was enough, he looked back at Medeia. "Now."

Medeia had bought an explosive lighter from the system for 100 gold coins. It was quite expensive, but it would cause a big explosion as soon as it touched the gasoline.

She took it out of her inventory and threw it at the horde of undead.

Boom!

The great explosion erupted with a deafening sound, sending a wave of heat and debris in all directions. Lucian covered Medeia with his body, creating an invisible barrier around them.

If he had created an invisible barrier, what was the point of hugging her?

Well, it wasn’t like Medeia was going to complain.

The undead screamed as the fire consumed their rotting bodies. The remains of their flesh melted while their bones cracked and turned to dust. They screamed loudly, but Medeia could sense a hint of relief in their voices.

"Let’s go!"

Lucian cut through the flames as they ran toward the twin tunnels. The metal barricades still stood strong despite the massive explosion earlier.

"Wow, our military must have been really strong back then!" Ren said with sparkling eyes. "My life would have been great if the military had rescued me and taken me to their base instead of living in the village."

Without turning to Ren, Lucian said, "You won’t." He pushed the barricade with his ability, not too wide, but enough for them to get through.

After they had all passed the barricade, Lucian immediately closed it again. Smoke rose into the sky, luring the mutants in the X-12 Zone to the twin tunnels.

Fortunately, the flames continued to spread, preventing the mutants from getting closer to the barricade.

What nice items!

Eventually, the system gave her a bunch of useful weapons and armor. She rarely used an axe, but there was no harm in collecting many dangerous weapons.

"Keep walking," Lucian said, his voice calm as he led the group through the twin tunnels.

He turned a piece of metal bar into wood and lit it with fire. The tunnel was dark and the silence was broken only by the sound of their footsteps, which gave it an eerie feeling.

According to Lucian’s memory, the tunnel was about 1 km long, so it would take them 15 minutes to reach City J.

Medeia took the compass out of her pocket to check the cooldown.

[Cooldown: 31:05:20]

She let out a long sigh, knowing she would have to wait another day before she could use the compass.

[Host, I want to offer you something.]

Medeia rolled her eyes. ’Let me guess, you can reduce the cooldown as long as I pay you with gold coins?’

[Host, since when can you read the system’s mind?!]

She groaned inwardly and immediately asked, ’How much?’

[It’s cheap! Only 400 coins per hour].

Scam! This was definitely a scam!

Forget it. I’d rather spend a night with Lucian than letting a robber snatch my gold coins!

She would never fall for the system’s scam again!

"You know, this is the farthest place that I’ve ever explore." Ren’s voice broke the silence between them. "Shouldn’t we explore more places in the future?"

Tian said, "You can explore the world as soon as you know how to protect yourself."

"I protected myself before you came!"

"Yes, and you were almost dead," Tian said nonchalantly.

Ren grumbled the whole way, but Tian decided to ignore his ramblings.

As soon as they saw the light at the end of the tunnel, a gust of hot, dry wind greeted them. When they stepped out of the tunnel, they saw a vast, barren desert in front of their eyes.

The golden sand stretched for miles. Buildings were crumbling, cars were abandoned in the streets, half buried under the sand.

"Oh, come on! Desert again? Has the whole world turned into a desert?" protested Medeia.

[Do you want to reduce the compass’ cooldown, Host?]

’No!’

Definitely not!

"It can’t be helped, most of the land has become barren." Lucian put his jacket on Medeia’s head. "We may encounter a Yellow Zone forest after we pass through this city."

Medeia grimaced softly because the planet’s climate had been so damaged that deserts and forests could be so close together.

As they walked through the city, Medeia noticed that the city was quieter than the X-12 Zone. She knew the military had eliminated a lot of animals after they started mutating, but she hadn’t expected the city to be so empty.

Where were the undead? The Lost?

"Why don’t I see any of the undead or the lost here?" wondered Medeia.

"Maybe the humans have evacuated somewhere?" guessed Ren.

Tian, "They had built a barricade, so why would they leave?"

"Do you know anything?" Medeia asked Lucian.

Lucian paused for a moment, looking like he was thinking about something, before he answered, "I don’t know either. This is my first time getting into this city again."
