Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband -
Chapter 30: First Genuine Hug
Chapter 30: First Genuine Hug
[The system has detected one of Lucian’s abilities]
[Name: Lucian Charon
Age: 34
Ability:
Atomic Manipulation (Grade-SSS+++)
Telekinetic (Grade-SSS+++)
Handsome Value: 100+/100
Kind-Hearted Value: 99/100]
Medeia was stunned by his abilities. Atomic manipulation combined with telekinetic would be the world’s deadliest and most powerful weapon.
No wonder Lucian had always avoided using his abilities as much as possible. Perhaps he was afraid of unintentionally hurting the people around him. But once he had used it, there was no turning back.
She hadn’t expected Lucian to go to such lengths just to save her. Furthermore, he had come to the Stormclad’s base in just a few hours, something he could only accomplish by unleashing his full-powers.
Medeia walked into the bloody battle, ignoring those who cried out in pain as Lucian broke their bodies as if they were block toys.
"Lucian," Medeia called to him, but he was too busy lashing out at the people who had captured her. She shouted, "Lucian!"
Finally, Lucian shifted his gaze to her. His cold eyes gradually warmed as they exchanged glances. He dropped his hand, letting go of the people who had been struggling to get away from him.
Bear had also stopped tearing at a man with his sharp fangs. Both of them ran towards her, but Lucian was faster than the wolf. His eyes burned with rage as he saw Medeia covered in blood.
He stammered out of concern. "A-are you hurt?" Lucian lost his focus and his breath sounded heavy. "Who ... who ..."
Medeia cut him off before the worst scenario could enter his mind. "This is not my blood. Okay, this may sound strange, but people in the room started killing each other out of nowhere. Can you imagine that?" she babbled, "That’s why I can escape easily and—"
She closed her mouth as Lucian wrapped his hands around her body. His grip was firm, yet trembling slightly, as if reassuring himself that she was really there. The tension in his shoulders eased, though his heart still thundered in his chest.
"I’m sorry," Lucian murmured, his voice low and raspy. "I’m sorry for being late. You must have been scared the whole time."
Medeia blinked in surprise, her usual sharp tongue momentarily silenced by the unexpected embrace. She felt the weight of his relief, the way he held her as if she would vanish if he let go.
Her hands hovered awkwardly for a moment before coming to rest gently on his back.
"Lucian ..." she began, her voice softer now. "I’m fine. Really."
Perhaps it was the first time Medeia had seen someone so devastated by seeing blood on her clothes.
It was bizarre, but somehow it made her happy.
For no one, not even herself, would be so afraid when danger knocked at her door.
[Quest Completed: Hugged by Lucian]
[Reward: +300 C-Point // +250 XP]
[Reward Gold Coins: 100]
[New Romance Quest: Eating from the Same Plate]
For fu-duck sake!
She even forgot that she would have completed her quest as soon as Lucian hugged her. But could the system let her enjoy the moment for a minute? By not bombarding her with the annoying notification.
Besides, what was wrong with the system?
Eating from the same plate?
She’d be damned if she asked Lucian to eat from the same plate. Could the system at least reconsider its choice of quest?
[The system has never made a mistake.]
Right. Like any narcissistic person, the system would never admit its mistake.
Back to Lucian, he pulled away slightly, his emerald eyes locked with hers. "You have no idea what went through my mind when I couldn’t find you," he said, his tone a mixture of frustration and concern. "When I saw the blood..."
He didn’t have the courage to finish his words. The only thing he did was hug her tighter until she could barely breathe.
He asked, "Did ... did they touch you?"
When the group of men captured a beautiful woman, everyone would undoubtedly think that they were going to lay their fingers on her body.
She had only been at Stormclad Base for a few hours, but who knew what had happened before she woke up? Medeia wasn’t even sure.
"Did it matter?" Medeia dropped her eyelids. "I’m not really sure, but if it did ... will you think of me as something ... broken?"
It never occurred to her that she would ever ask such a thing to a man.
She had never been a saint. Her mind had been corrupted with evil and bad things after living in hell for so long.
Even though her soul had possessed a human body, it didn’t change the fact that she was still a monster underneath the human skin.
There was nothing pure about her.
But the woman’s body was still a virgin, the last virtue that maybe ... just maybe would make her feel like there was something pure in her.
So she wouldn’t feel like she was too dirty for Lucian, too evil for a kind soul like him.
"No!" His voice broke her reverie. "Certainly not! Whatever happens will never change my view of you."
"But I will definitely break their arms for what they did to you."
Media giggled, smiling because Lucian’s words were so sweet. "They are dead, remember? You can’t punish them anymore."
Lucian’s expression gradually changed after he remembered that Medeia had told him about their death at the beginning.
"Did they suffer?"
Medeia, "Oh, you can’t imagine it."
Even their souls were screaming in agony.
"Good ... that’s good." Lucian awkwardly released their hug, then rubbed the blood on Medeia’s face with his hand. "Let’s go home. I can take you to find medicinal herbs another time."
Crack!
Medeia looked up as thunder struck the sky. The weather was sunny a moment ago, but why did the sky suddenly turn dark?
She thought it was just a random change of weather, but Lucian seemed to be concerned about something.
"What’s wrong?" asked Medeia.
Lucian held her hand, then pulled her closer. "Don’t leave my side."
Before she could ask further, a man in a wheelchair came out of the base with hundreds of men behind him.
Half of his face was covered in a black mask, giving him a jerk-bad vibe.
Or maybe, he was indeed a jerk that Medeia had despised since the first time she opened her eyes in the Stormclad base.
"How can you leave so soon after you destroyed my base and killed some of my men?" He smiled as his eyes landed on Lucian, "It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you, kid."
