Chapter 195: Eating Too Much (2)

Lucian sighed, shaking his head. "You’re planning to go to their base, aren’t you?"

"Obviously." Medeia nudged a corpse out of her way with the tip of her boot, then strode toward an open clearing. With a flick of her wrist, she raised a white flare into the sky.

A signal that the battle was over.

The snipers swiftly withdrew their weapons, while the hunters stationed at the front line let out a breath of relief—at least for now, they didn’t have to worry about enemies breaking through.

"It’s time for us to make an appearance." Medeia turned, her crimson eyes locking onto his. "The world needs to understand that the Red Star Alliance is not a faction they can challenge so carelessly."

Lucian stepped closer, reaching out to brush a stray strand of her hair between his fingers. Then, without hesitation, he brought it to his lips and pressed a soft kiss against it. "It’s time for our leader to shine."

Soon, no one would dare knock on their door uninvited. No one would dare to touch their people.

"You’re not against my decision to go to their base?" Medeia asked. "Don’t you think it’s reckless?"

Lucian’s lips curled into a small smile. "No." He met her gaze. "It’s also time for me to remind the general that ’00’ is back."

Medeia froze.

Just a while ago, he had been so cautious, so afraid of anyone discovering his identity. And now, he wanted the general to know the truth?

Did that even make sense?

"Why?" she asked, her voice quieter this time. "Aren’t you afraid more people will find out who you are?"

Lucian exhaled, his expression unreadable. "Afraid? Of course I am." His eyes darkened. "But this is the only way to keep these rats away from us."

Back then, he had done everything to avoid the military. Changed his appearance. Changed his name. Again and again.

But that was a long time ago.

Back when he still didn’t understand the world or himself.

Now, he was no longer the same man who once ran and hid. He understood the world better, and more importantly, he had full control over his power.

The military had struggled to take him down before. And now? They wouldn’t even come close.

"Besides," Lucian sighed. "When Max wakes up, it’s only a matter of time before my identity comes to light." A wry smile flickered on his lips. "And I can’t bring myself to kill him."

"Then we’ll face it together." Medeia softened her voice. "No matter what the world says, no matter what they call you ... to me, you will always be Lucian Charon. My partner. My lover."

For a moment, he simply looked at her. Then, suddenly, a smile spread across his face, the kind of smile that made Medeia’s heart stop for a beat.

"I thought you’d call me your husband," Lucian teased.

Medeia froze for a second before raising her hand, staring at her own ringed finger. "I don’t have a ring yet," she muttered. Then, more specifically, "I mean ... the one from you."

Lucian let out a soft chuckle, taking her hand in his. "I—"

Before he could say anything, Medeia suddenly doubled over, clutching her stomach.

"Ouch. Ouch."

Lucian’s amusement vanished in an instant. He crouched down beside her, worry flashing across his face. "What’s wrong?! Are you hurt?"

"No ..." Medeia winced, her expression contorted in discomfort. "I think... I ate too many souls."

[The system has warned you before, Host!]

[If you consume too many souls in a short period, you’ll get a stomachache!]

[Control your appetite! You can store the pearls and eat them later!]

Medeia’s head snapped up. "WHAT?! Since when could I store them for later?!"

The system was silent for a moment.

[The system does not understand your words. Please try again later.]

Medeia’s eye twitched. "Oh, so now you’re pretending to glitch out because you’re too ashamed to admit your mistake?!" She, who usually avoided talking to the system, was now desperate for it to say something. "TALK TO ME, YOU COWARD!!"

Because of her severe stomach ache, Medeia had no choice but to let Lucian take care of the bodies alone—not that she had any intention of doing it in the first place. Instead, she lay in bed, suffering by herself.

Fortunately, Sister Jeanne had agreed to watch over Sierra for a while, at least until her stomach felt better.

She groaned, rolling back and forth on the bed in a futile attempt to ease the pain, but it refused to go away.

[This is what happens when you’re too greedy, Host.]

"You decide to talk to me now?!" Medeia shot up in frustration, only to groan and collapse back onto the bed when another sharp pain stabbed through her stomach. "If you’re not going to give me a solution, then get lost!"

[The system simply wants to remind you to bake your blueberry pie immediately.]

[You’re taking too long.]

[The watchers are not impressed by your laziness.]

"If I’m boring them, then tell them to watch another channel!" Medeia huffed. "It’s not like I’m the only one participating in your reality show!"

[But you’re our brightest star, Host!]

Medeia frowned. Since when had she become their best star? She wasn’t even getting any benefits from it.

[The moment your face appears on the screen, the watchers flock to see you!]

She blinked. Huh?

Her face alone was enough to keep people glued to their screens? That didn’t make sense. Surely, there were other participants with beauty, charm, and charisma ... right?

Or... maybe not?

Well, what could she say? She was undeniably too beautiful for this world.

[How about this, Host.]

[The system will grant you double points if you successfully bake a blueberry pie within three hours and treat the watchers to a heartwarming, lovey-dovey moment.]

Medeia shot up so fast she nearly forgot about her stomach ache. "Done! Let’s bake a pie!"

How could Medeia possibly refuse the chance to earn double points just by flirting with Lucian?

That was basically her favorite thing in the world!
