Chapter 143: A Queen’s Confession (2)
Oh, for fuck’s sake. Of course, she would mind. But what could she do if Lucian couldn’t accept her past?
"I’m hugging you right now," Lucian said, "Do you think I would do that if I was going to leave you?"
Lucian pulled back slightly, looking into her eyes to make sure she was listening.
"If I wanted to leave you, I would’ve done it already," he continued. "No, Medeia. I won’t leave you. Not now, not tomorrow, not until death. Hell, even if death tries to pull us apart, I’ll search for your soul."
Lucian’s gaze softened. "I’ll never leave you. That’s a promise."
Medeia always thought men’s words were like a drop of poison in a cup of sweet tea.
The sweetness would draw a woman in, filling her with warmth and happiness, making it impossible to stop drinking until the cup was empty.
But eventually, the poison would spread through her veins, turning the sweetness into something that would eventually lead to her demise.
All men do is lie. And those who fall for their sweet words would suffer when the truth cracked open.
Medeia had always been an expert at detecting deception. She had learned to trust no one, knowing that no one could fool her.
Except Lucian. His words, his promises—they felt so genuine.
Yet Medeia found herself questioning: was he truly being honest, or had she become so blinded by love that the poison started to taste like sugar?
All men lie, but in the quietest corners of her heart, Medeia dared to hope that Lucian was different.
There was something inside her that told her he wasn’t lying. He really would do that for her.
But how could she be sure when she hadn’t seen it for herself yet?
[All you have to do is trust him, Host. That’s what couples do!]
"I believe you," Medeia said.
She truly did believe him.
"Do you want to hear more about my past?" she asked.
Lucian shook his head and gently wiped away a tear from the corner of her eye—one she hadn’t even noticed. "That’s enough for today. I don’t want to burden your heart with the pain from the past anymore."
"Then, I want to tell you one more thing before we eat that food over there." Medeia hissed, noticing the food had probably gotten cold.
"What is it?" Lucian asked.
"My name in the past was given to me by him, so if you don’t mind, I want to forget that name."
Lucian nodded. "Okay. Don’t talk about that name anymore." He pressed his forehead against hers. "You’re Medeia now, my Medeia."
He kissed her lips once before pulling back. "Should we eat now? You must be hungry, right? I’ll heat it up a bit."
That day, Medeia finally got to try some delicious food in the doomsday world. But Lucian told her the food had gone bad.
Perhaps it wasn’t the food that made it taste so good, but the sense of relief and warmth she felt from sharing it with Lucian.
Maybe the system hadn’t been wrong in sending her to this world. Despite its brokenness and ruin, in the midst of all the chaos, she had managed to find solace and peace, something she hadn’t thought possible.
They returned to the base before sunset. If the guards had seen Medeia looking grumpy when she left, they were surprised to find her unable to stop giggling and jumping around when she came back.
A big smile spread across Medeia’s face, making it clear to everyone around her that she was in a great mood.
"Did you just come back from some expensive date or what?" Celestine raised an eyebrow, surprised—it was the first time she’d seen Medeia so happy.
"As long as I have a handsome boyfriend like him, I don’t even need an expensive date," Medeia replied with a playful smile, eyeing the basket of vegetables in Celestine’s hands. "Planning to cook dinner? Looks like the princess has finally turned into a kitchen worker."
"What are you talking about? I’ve never been a princess!" Celestine huffed. "It’s just that the Junk Garden’s kitchen is so messy and disgusting that I don’t even want to set foot in there."
Medeia’s lips curved up slightly. "Oh, I think you’re starting to feel at home here. Still planning to complain to your brother and ask him to take you back?"
Celestine pouted and turned her face away. "I haven’t decided yet."
Despite her words, Medeia was sure that Celestine wouldn’t want to go back to the Junk Garden after experiencing what it felt like to live in a heaven.
And Medeia’s guess was correct. When Richard came to the Red Star base to deliver the next batch of materials, Celestine said to him, "You’ve hurt my feelings by abandoning me. So, even if you beg, I won’t go back with you."
Richard chuckled softly. "Just admit it if you like living here. No need to play hard to get. I’m your brother, not some boyfriend who can’t read your heart."
Celestine clicked her tongue and refused to talk to him any further.
Finally, Seraphina spoke up, "Even though I know you meant well, your actions of forcibly bringing us here are not something to be praised. Richard, you’ve crossed the line."
The smile on Richard’s face slowly faded. "I know. I’m sorry for being too harsh with you," he said, continuing, "But if I didn’t do it, none of you would have left the Junk Garden willingly.""
Seraphina spoke up. "But didn’t we agree that I would stay there with you?"
"Oh, sister. Do you think I’m still five? I can take care of myself. Besides, I feel freer when no one is nagging me about whether I’m awake or sleeping too long."
Vivienne shouted, "Richard! This is why I didn’t want to leave you alone there! You’ll die if we leave you by yourself."
"Come on, everyone will die eventually."
All of his sisters spoke at once. "Richard!"
Medeia clapped her hands once to get their attention. "That’s enough." She wasn’t here to watch a family drama. She just wanted to discuss the electricity plan with Richard. "It’s not like you’re moving to another universe. You can visit each other whenever you want."
"Don’t worry about the dangerous road; Lucian will escort you whenever you want," Medeia added, casually throwing her boyfriend under the bus, who had been silent up until now.
But Medeia was sure that as winter approached, they’d be too busy preparing winter supplies and forget about visiting their ungrateful brother.
