Chapter 102: Favor

Lucian had pampered Medeia all morning. He didn’t let her get out of bed and kept bringing her delicious food and giving her relaxing massages.

She had planned to sleep the entire day, but Jose and Richard’s arrival shattered her perfect plans.

By noon, Richard arrived at the Red Star base along with dozens of trucks carrying materials for the base construction.

It was just the first batch, but Medeia thought the supplies were sufficient to build the medical bay and the armory.

The convoy of trucks carried a variety of materials. Large crates containing steel beams and reinforced concrete bags were neatly stacked in several vehicles.

Rolls of wiring and high-grade insulation filled another truck, ready to ensure the building would have power and temperature regulation.

Among the supplies, Medeia noticed several crates with solar panel components, glass panels, photovoltaic cells, and mounting brackets.

"First of all, these are fantastic," Medeia said as she approached Richard, who had just jumped down from the truck. "But second of all, how did you get all these materials? Did you travel back in time or something?"

Richard chuckled. "Close, but not quite. There are still a few places stockpiling materials like these, abandoned warehouses, private collections, and even some government reserves. You’d be surprised what rich people leave behind."

Unlike most people, the government and the world’s wealthiest 1% had long known that something catastrophic would eventually happen to the planet.

They had spent trillions of dollars building bunkers and creating exclusive refuges for themselves. However, the radiation apocalypse was not something that could be avoided simply by hiding in a bunker.

In the end, everyone, without exception, was exposed to the radiation blast. Those who had sought refuge in the bunkers eventually found themselves trapped alongside people who had transformed into the Lost.

The bunkers, which were supposed to be the safest places for them, eventually became their everlasting graves.

Even Willow Village had to kill their fellow villagers who were in the first stage of becoming the Lost to prevent mass slaughter in the future.

The real Medeia was lucky that no one had the heart to kill her because she was a kind and sweet woman.

"So you robbed them?" asked Medeia.

"Robbed?" Richard waved his hand dismissively. "This is called redistribution of resources," he said, "Why should all that equipment rot in abandoned bunkers when we can use it to build something meaningful?"

"You’ve got a point." Medeia crossed her arms, then changed the topic. "So, why are you here in person? I thought Jose would be coming alone?"

Richard leaned casually against the side of the truck. "What, you’re not happy to see me?" He said, "You should be grateful that I want to manage the construction in person. Where is Lucian?"

"You?" Medeia laughed. "The man who’s been hiding in his base for years suddenly wants to step out of his cage? Don’t joke with me. Just tell me what you want."

Richard sighed, glancing at Lucian, who was helping Jose unload the materials from the truck. "Honestly, how did my cousin end up with a wicked woman like you?"

"You mean a beautiful woman like me?" Medeia countered with a smirk.

Richard pretended to gag before straightening up, his tone turning serious. "I want my sisters to live here."

Medeia raised an eyebrow. "Your sisters? Aren’t they happy living with you in the Junk Garden?"

"They are," Richard sighed. "But Junk Garden isn’t an ideal place to live. We can’t even step outside without wearing gas masks. They never complain, but I think they deserve to live somewhere more secure and pleasant."

All these years, his sisters had followed him wherever he went, saying they would never abandon their little brother.

It was nice to stay with his family even in the middle of the apocalypse, but as the years passed, Richard realized that some of his sisters, like Celestine and Vivienne, seemed constantly depressed because they couldn’t bask freely under the sun.

Meanwhile, the other sisters loved decorating their rooms with countless paintings of nature, pretending they could breathe fresh air without the fear of inhaling the deadly moss outside.

With all the junk and scrap materials, the Junk Garden base was far from an ideal place for women like them.

"I can’t let them live among trash for the rest of their lives," Richard said firmly. "I’ve seen a copy of the blueprint you made, and I’m confident this place could become a haven for them."

"Yeah, living in that landfill forever sounds like a nightmare," Medeia crossed her arms and said, "I don’t have a problem if they want to live here, but of course, staying here isn’t free. If they want to stay, they’ll need to contribute."

Richard’s sisters had been living like princesses in their base for a long time, but Medeia had no intention of hosting princesses in her base.

Everyone in Red Star had their own tasks, even the pregnant women volunteered to help Sister Jeanne at the church.

"You don’t seem like you work that much here either," Richard remarked.

Medeia gasped in disbelief. "What do you mean? I have to clean my own room every morning!" She continued, "But seriously, I don’t want them to just do nothing while others work. This place is not a five star hotel."

"Don’t worry about that. My sisters are more diligent than you."

Medeia gritted her teeth, trying to suppress her annoyance. Lucian was like an angel, but why did his cousin act like a mischievous demon?

However, if Richard’s sisters stayed in the Red Star base, wouldn’t that mean Richard would work even harder to perfecting the base?

The easiest way to control someone was to leverage their loved ones, after all.

"Deal. You can bring them here whenever you want," Medeia said, clapping her hands once. "Now, let’s talk about other things. Lucian and I want to strengthen our base’s defenses, so we need your opinion.

"Fee?"

"Six boxes of fresh vegetables in the next batch."

"Deal," Richard agreed. "Have you made a plan?"
