Chapter 70: Delkira’s Lampooning

Despite one’s status seemingly abandoned within the perimeters of the Hero Academy, the students still lived their lives generally similar to nobles, as their dormitory rooms, though architecturally moderate, were filled with lavishness and intricate furniture, more so for the ones who had the financial capability for renovation.

That being said, a well-built, fair-skinned man, whose eyes and hair speak divine gold, seated at the table filled with both academic and non-academic documents, faced his guest, who seemed to be the recent talk among the first and second years, within his luxurious and spacious dorm room.

"I greet His Highness." Standing in front of Vaeron, the Crown Prince of the Holy Empire, potential successor to the throne, Delkira slightly lowered her head.

"You know etiquette." Vaeron smiled, but his gaze exuded cold as his demeanor was usually this overwhelming. Unlike the Imperial Princess, he indeed preferred being addressed the right way, especially if they’re not in a public setting with watchful eyes and gossipers’ attentive ears.

"But why did you approach my sister? It’s bold for someone who just arrived in this academy... that it’s suspicious. Don’t you think so?"

Is this why one of his henchmen secretly informed me that I’m being summoned at this late hour? Wow. What an assuming brat, it seems.

Thinking for a moment, Delkira opened her mouth to speak, "I have no such grand reason, Your Highness. It’s just... I didn’t know why my classmates and the others, especially men, began talking about me... Some were even approaching me for something petty, that’s why I thought maybe if I group myself with Miss Alana, Miss Maya, and Miss Rosanna, who have an unapproachable atmosphere, they would stop approaching me."

"..."

How many times did I bow my head just today? It’s pissing me off! Acting like this is exponentially difficult than just outrightly committing genocide. Oh, Demon God.

"I see. But I can guess why men are approaching you." Vaeron scrutinized Delkira’s appearance—though younger compared to her original features—which seemed to passively leak an aura of a mature individual.

So? Delkira inwardly frowned.

"If there’s nothing else, if you may excuse me, Your Highness." She said.

But then, before she could turn around, Vaeron spoke, "There’s something else..."

"...?"

Seeing her being silent for a moment, the Crown Prince continued, "Would you like to be my friend?"

Look at this fool of a prince. It’s clear as day what his intentions are. Does she think I can be his little puppet? Should I just murder this bastard and forget the reason why I came here for? Delkira lampooned.

"What do you mean, Your Highness? That’s quite a sudden and strange proposal for someone who just questioned my intention by being near the Imperial Princess."

"Hahaha!" Vaeron laughed, sensing a subtle change in this girl’s demeanor. "It seems you’ve become a representative of your class because of your bearing. What noble family do you belong to?"

Why did this man have many questions... Let’s list him among my priority targets.

With such a vile thought, Delkira answered based on her fake demographic recorded by the Hero Academy during her admission, "I am from the fallen noble family of Kang, Your Highness."

"A fallen nobility from Kang Family? Based on its unique sound, you’re from the Eastern Empire, I presume?" Vaeron said before reaching for a paper on his side, avoiding eye contact with her.

Is this man trying to intimidate me? I want to laugh. On the positive note, Phantasma told me that the names of ’fallen’ noble families are likely used for disguises since it’s difficult to trace. What’s more, if I’m from the Eastern Empire, it’s strenuous and nonsensical for someone from Divinia to conduct a background check on me.

"So... You’re Delkira of Kang, is that it?" Vaeron said, checking the list of the new Class Mu that was delivered to him earlier in the morning.

"Yes, Your Highness."

I want to nap. Even if it’s unnecessary for the likes of me.

"Should I be concerned?"

Delkira restrained herself from snapping the figure in front of her. Instead, with her hands clasped behind, she respectfully answered, "If you are asking if the new Class Mu will be a threat to your class, Your Highness..."

Well...

"Then it’s a yes."

A different kind of threat, you could say.

Hearing such a bold statement, Vaeron’s lips arched heinously, as though his face had turned into something indescribable, which caused Delkira to frown as she maintained her poker face.

’What a funny clown.’

With the moonlight showering his figure, the Crown Prince continued to laugh as though there was no tomorrow.

"A threat huh? HAHAHA—! I like your confidence. What a pity. You had one chance, but you wasted it." He chuckled.

Meanwhile, Delkira just watched this man in amusement and irritation.

You aren’t worthy enough to be my plaything.

*

Being left alone with this echoing silence, Vaeron couldn’t hide his smile. Though at the same time, as Delkira’s presence was no more, a streak vein bulged on his forehead.

"Hahaha! How could such a newcomer act this way in front of me? It seems I misjudged her... But how dare she humiliate me by rejecting the friendship that I don’t unnecessarily offer?!"

His plan was plain and simple—to plant Delkira amidst Alana, Maya, and his sibling, Rosanna.

Crumpling the piece of paper, Vaeron muttered in the darkness, "Come out."

That’s when two shadows stretched across the ceiling of the room. Sensing their presence, he added, "You know what to do."

The quiet shadows nodded in the dark as their figure vanished.

"It was stupid to reject this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." His voice dissipated with the chilling winds as he stood by the window to witness those below him.

Soon... This empire will fall under the Lord’s reign.

After leaving the Crown Prince’s abode, as Delkira’s mood under the moonlight was tarnished, causing her first impression with the said heir to be incredibly frustrating, she visited a nearby cafeteria and interacted with the human way as she bought some midnight snacks.

"That’s quite an abundant stock. Are you going to be up all night, young lady?" The male cashier smiled.

Delkira only smiled in return as she nodded in gratitude.

After that, in the dormitory rooms of the second year, her figure faced a door—but it’s not her designated room.

Gently knocking a few times, she heard a male student’s voice, "Who is it?"

"Uh–uhm! Sorry for disturbing... I-I’m Delkira from the–"

Even before she could finish, the door opened, revealing a figure with golden-rimmed eyeglasses over a pair of brown eyes, fair skin with a slightly slim build, whose vibes exuded shyness as he scratched his head upon seeing such an unexpected presence.

"D-Delkira...? W-why?" His face felt crimson hot, facing such a girl who seemed to passively expel allure from her body.

"Ah! I brought some snacks. I figure you’re studying, so... Want some?"

"Y-Yes. Come in." As if this student’s mind suddenly turned irrational, clearly showing signs of lustful desire, Delkira was invited to the room, where many books were scattered throughout.

Obsessed with studying.

"But w-why are you doing this?" The male student stuttered.

"Well, I’m new here and you’re from the same class in one of joint sessions. And I heard the rumors... You know?"

"Wh-what rumors?" As he remained standing, Delkira found a seat near his bed.

"That you’re trying to be first place in your class. But unfortunately, you’re in Class Zenith, and Alana’s your opponent. You could say I’m here as a support, Rahkeid. Hehe."

Rahkeid van Elargrave.

One of the raid group leaders from Class Zenith on Ranaya Island Exam. However, because of the abrupt incident, he didn’t have a chance to show his potential.

"R-really? But what’s in it for you?"

"Hahaha! Don’t take this the wrong way. We will still be competitors, especially when it comes to joint classes such as sparring sessions. But don’t you think it’s fine? We’re from different classes, meaning I wouldn’t get in your way.

"But if you ask me, you could say I want to appreciate those who are being overshadowed just because the one in front is from a renowned family. Don’t you think it’s unfair, right, Rahkeid?"

Delkira stood, slowly approached him, and smiled. As the two looked into each other’s eyes, something subtle happened.

Delkira’s crimson eyes momentarily glimmered. On the other hand, Rahkeid’s gaze, albeit unknowingly, darkened before its light returned.

[True Devil’s Eyes]

[You comprehend this person’s soul.]

[The Seed of Blasphemy begins to corrupt the target’s soul.]

"Right... It is. That’s why I have to do good. I have to be better..."

"You’ll be what you want to be. Hehe."

In the next moment, Delkira tapped Rahkeid’s forehead as the latter lost somewhat consciousness. Then, as if being jolted awake from a long dream, Rahkeid opened his eyes.

"What just happened? I fell asleep?"

But one was there, only him and the bunch of snacks alone.

"Ah. My head aches. I feel like someone was here just now... Damn it! I should focus on studying. I have to catch up! I have to do good!"

Meanwhile, Delkira, outside of Rahkeid’s dorm room, simply walked away as though nothing had happened.

If the prince can be annoying, how much more if it’s someone who would do anything to reach the top?
