Chapter 1507: Chapter 1123: The Charm of Chinese

Is this little guy really obsessed with medicine? No matter what, whether she can understand or not, Yang Ping earnestly explains to her, trying to use language as simple and understandable as possible. A child’s curiosity and spirit of exploration are extremely valuable and must be carefully protected.

The little girl blinked her eyes in a seemingly understanding yet confused manner, then fell into thought. Well, take your time to think, Yang Ping observing her now, he isn’t worried about her mental state at all.

While Sisi was thinking, Yang Ping intended to leave. As he reached the door, Sisi called out to him: "You said the K virus I used last time is easily recognized by the human immune system due to its lack of effective disguise, and thus gets severely attacked by the immune system once injected into the human body. Why not use viruses with better compatibility with the human body, like some viruses that the human body naturally can’t produce antibodies against? Wouldn’t using such viruses as modification templates be better?"

When elementary students get serious, they can be quite tough to deal with. Yang Ping had to patiently explain to her again: "In choosing a viral vector, extremes cannot be pursued. You can’t choose viruses the human body can’t produce antibodies against, nor can you choose viruses that the body produces large amounts of antibodies for. The former is extremely dangerous; once inside the body reproducing, the human body has no means to deal with it, allowing it to divide arbitrarily, like the HIV virus. The body can’t produce specific antibodies against it, so it can’t be eliminated, nor can vaccines prevent it. If the number of antibodies is too high and too strong, that’s also not good as the virus can be destroyed by the immune system before reaching the tumor inside the body. Sometimes an overly intense immune response can also harm the body. That time when you had a high fever for several days almost costing you your life was due to an overly strong immune response."

"The choice of a carrier requires a balance, considering both ends; it must be safe and controllable, and also capable of penetrating the human immune system," Yang Ping summarized for her.

Who knows if the little guy understands, but anyway, Yang Ping explained to her using the simplest language. Moreover, conversing with this little guy is quite interesting, Yang Ping likes talking to her. Her serious thinking manner is very cute.

"Then, can’t we use dead viruses that have no replication ability? I saw in your papers mentioning a virus-shedding technique? Many vaccines also use this technique." Sisi asked persistently, this child’s research spirit is truly precious.

"Theoretically possible, but practically impossible, because a virus without replication ability has unpredictable death time within the human body. This can cause them to be prematurely annihilated in the complex human environment before achieving their target of enemy destruction, which is a challenging task to avoid."

"Oh! I understand." The little girl seemed to understand but didn’t fully grasp it.

Sometimes when children think, adults laugh, which can severely suppress a child’s curiosity and thinking ability. To protect Sisi’s curiosity and thinking ability, Yang Ping patiently holds equal dialogues with her, letting her find a sense of being respected in the communication.

"Can you understand our paper?" Yang Ping asked curiously.

Sisi took out the Medical journal given to her by Tang Fei: "This is from Sister Fei. I read it slowly myself, anyway, I recognize all these characters. If there are concepts I don’t understand, I ask you, and slowly, I can understand them."

Yang Ping once again marveled at the wonders of Chinese, that an elementary student can read medical papers. The parts she can’t understand are not due to reading obstacles, but rather her unfamiliarity with medical term concepts. In English, this would be unimaginable; not just elementary students, even an advanced degree holder not studying medicine wouldn’t understand medical papers due to many unknown words causing reading barriers. It’s not that they don’t understand the word’s concept, it’s that the word itself is a string of unknown symbols to them.

"Moreover... oh, I won’t take up your time." Sisi hesitated to speak further.

"No problem, go ahead, or you can record the questions you’re thinking of in a notebook. When I have free time, we can discuss them slowly." Yang Ping suggested to her.

She thought it was a good idea and immediately took out a notebook to start recording: "You go ahead, but make sure you teach me when you have time. You promised to be my teacher, you have to keep your word."

"Of course, we shook on it, how can I not keep my word." Yang Ping encouraged her.

"Alright, go on with your work." Sisi waved her hand cheerfully.

Yang Ping arrived at the office, where everybody was discussing Sisi’s current illness and experimental plan.

Yang Ping’s experimental team consists of both doctors and non-doctors, those specialized in basic medical research mingling together, each contributing their expertise. Influenced by the previous experimental successes, these people’s confidence is very strong, they dare to think and do, and it’s exactly this daring thinking and doing that enables continuous breakthroughs in research topics. Regarding topics, Yang Ping now focuses on the main aspects, providing direction and ideas, while the team completes some details.

The K virus, later renamed to Tumor Cell Targeting Apoptosis Protein Complex, is a bit lengthy, which doesn’t conform to the concise nature of Chinese. Therefore, Yang Ping asked everyone to come up with a simple, catchy name, like terms such as laser, aerospace, realm... These predecessors named technological new terms very well, and extremely expressively.

In medicine, many terms are quite lengthy, Chinese medical terms are a bit better, not so exaggerated. Medical terms in English include many long words, like the longest claimed word, containing 45 letters: pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, which is a medical term, translated to Chinese in just three words: silicosis. Sometimes one can’t help but marvel at the super strong expressive ability of Chinese.

Upon hearing there’s a need for renaming, everybody got excited again, this isn’t a trivial matter, but rather something of great significance; whoever names it will be recorded in medical history.

"Targeted Granules?"

"Tumor Missile!"

"K-type Virus!"

"..."

Everybody eagerly proposed names, but none were ideal, these are logically inclined individuals whose literary knowledge is comparatively insufficient, momentarily unable to think of suitable names.

"Everyone, don’t rush. Regarding naming, you can think about it slowly. We need to discuss the Phase One clinical trial now." Yang Ping waved his hand, indicating now isn’t the time for naming.

"The number of volunteers for the Phase One clinical trial is temporarily insufficient, but this doesn’t affect the continuation of Sisi’s experiment; Sisi’s situation is unique and isn’t restricted by the Phase One clinical trial." Song Zimo said.

"The production of biological agents, Ruixing Medical has already established a model workshop, capable of mass-producing qualified biological agents at any time." Tang Shun introduced. Now the combination of production, learning, and research is going well, enabling quick and effective transformation of Institute’s research results into qualified commercial products.
