Chapter 131: Chapter 128: The Sealed Demon Lord
Under the night sky, Yin Ghost Mountain was eerily quiet. All that could be heard was the chirping of insects, the calling of birds, and, from deep within the mountain, the occasional violent cries of unknown origin—whether from some Demon Beast or restless spirits was unclear.
On Yin Ghost Mountain, numerous scattered graves contributed to the heavy, oppressive air—that and the fact it was a burial place, augmented by nightfall and the traces of Black Demon Sect remnants. The earlier trepidation of Hua Hong and his two companions was not without reason.
Between the dark trees, green ghostly fires could occasionally be seen drifting through the air, groups of bats flying past with "screech screech" sounds, creating a terrifying atmosphere.
Placed in such a horrific environment, of the three, the two male disciples fared better, whereas Dong Lin, with her once delicate complexion, had turned notably pale, evidently unaccustomed to such a gloomy place.
Ye Xuan led the group, walking at the very front. To maintain concealment, he didn’t use a torch or any other source of illumination. Relying on the moonlight above and his keen sense of hearing, he was able to ensure they stayed on course without the need for light.
Proceeding cautiously, after passing more than two hours, the group finally reached the central peak of Yin Ghost Mountain, shaped like a lamb’s knife.
Upon arriving there, the surrounding yin energy was noticeably thicker than before, as if a layer of black fog drifted in the air, vibrating with a predatory nature, seemingly exerting a subtle suppression on True Qi.
"This place is a bit sinister, be careful and don’t make any noise."
Ye Xuan sensed something was amiss here. Although the whole of Yin Ghost Mountain was shrouded in sinister energy, this place seemed to be the nexus of it all. If there truly was a Black Demon Sect stronghold, it was very likely to be hidden within this lamb-knife-shaped peak.
Having warned Hua Hong and the others, Ye Xuan continued to move forward, curious to see what nefarious deeds these Black Demon Sect remnants were plotting.
Hua Hong and the two others could only nod their heads in agreement. At this crucial juncture, even if they wanted to turn back, it was impossible—they had to muster their courage and be ready for battle at any moment.
Their figures then disappeared into the night, ascending toward the summit of the lamb-knife-shaped peak.
At that moment, atop the peak in a certain area, one could see a circle of figures in black robes surrounding a blood-red cauldron-like sacrificial vessel, filled to the brim with fierce-looking severed heads, at least a hundred. The vessel emanated a tangible wave of bloodlust, and beneath it, seemingly connected to an Array, a faint light seeped from underground.
The grand blood light from the vessel infused power into the ground beneath, inducing the Array to vibrate, but without causing any significant changes.
"Bring up the people."
Witnessing this, the leader in the blood robe waved his hand, and promptly, a dozen or so young men in plain clothing were brought over—clearly ordinary civilians.
Seeing the heads within the vessel, the young men turned ashen, having never seen such a ghastly scene before, and they immediately fell to their knees, begging for mercy.
"Kill!"
However, the blood-robed man showed not a hint of pity in his eyes and with a simple wave of his hand, sentenced these men to death.
Crack...
The blade moved as swiftly as lightning. Against these black-robed individuals, ordinary people had no chance to resist. Killing them was as effortless as slaughtering chickens. In an instant, the heads of the young men hit the ground and flew towards the vessel, from which a startling blood light began to burst forth.
Hiss...
Cracks formed and spread out from beneath the feet of the black-robed figures. The ground trembled, and the entire mountain seemed to quiver ever so slightly.
Meanwhile, Ye Xuan and his companions had reached the mountain’s summit.
What confronted them was a precipice a hundred feet tall. Beyond that, there was nothing else.
"How can this be? Where are the people from the Black Demon Sect?"
Hua Hong approached the edge of the cliff, his face reflecting his surprise and confusion. According to his tracking, the Black Demon Sect remnants should have been hiding within Yin Ghost Mountain, and with the heavy yin energy of this lamb-knife-shaped peak, it was hard to believe they weren’t there.
"Could they have moved ahead of time?"
The remaining Dong Lin and Yang Jun surveyed their surroundings, but after seeing nothing significant, they could only shake their heads in doubt. The summit was only so large; it seemed impossible that anything else was concealed there.
Ye Xuan’s brows were tightly furrowed. Faced with this situation, even he was unsure where to start. But just then, a faint tremor came from underfoot.
His expression changing slightly, Ye Xuan immediately crouched down, placing his hands on the ground, and finally laying his entire body down, ear pressed to the earth to listen to the vibrations coming from below.
As he listened in such a manner, Ye Xuan’s eyes quickly lit up.
"The Black Demon Sect people must be below us. Get ready for combat and follow me down."
A stern expression crossed Ye Xuan’s face. The force emanating from beneath the mountain was immense; the Black Demon Sect remnants were likely involved in some kind of significant undertaking that required an urgent investigation.
"Below us? But how will we get down?"
Dong Lin watched Ye Xuan with a bit of amazement. Wasn’t this a cliff in front of them? Could they really make their way down just by saying so?
"The enemy has found a way down, so naturally we will do the same."
Upon reaching the edge of the cliff, Ye Xuan scanned the area and his eyes soon sparkled with a trace of light. Sure enough, as he had suspected, he spotted several thick vines leading deep down the cliff face.
With a leap, Ye Xuan grabbed one of the vines and then agilely began to climb down.
"We should go down as well."
Seeing the vines, Hua Hong and the other two rubbed their hands, their eyes showing a sharp glint. They were already here, so if they truly encountered remnants of the Black Demon Sect, they would be forced into a desperate fight.
About halfway down the hundred-meter cliff, a cave about two meters wide appeared in Ye Xuan’s field of vision. He swiftly dove and landed at the entrance of the cave.
Hua Hong and the other two followed after Ye Xuan and landed at the cave mouth, looking into the deep and murky cave with faces that quickly turned grave.
Seeing the trio become tense, Ye Xuan was noncommittal and moved to stealthily enter the cave, while Hua Hong and his companions cautiously followed, with their hands on their weapons.
It wasn’t long before a bloody space came into view, and an astonishing scene unfolded.
The ground cracked open. From fissures beneath the stones, ancient runes emerged one after another, connecting to each other and forming an ancient array. Below the array, sinister vibrations seeped out as if something monstrous was suppressed beneath it.
Under the silent recitation of the man in the blood-red robe, blood light erupted from the artifact and struck the array, wave after wave, each more powerful than the last. Under such ferocious assault, the array began to falter.
"The array is about to break."
Ye Xuan’s heart tightened. Just as he was about to intervene, suddenly, with a "crack," the ancient array shattered first, collapsing entirely.
"This is bad."
His pupils constricted, and Ye Xuan had a foreboding feeling that whatever was sealed by the array was no ordinary being. Now that the array was broken, this demon was certain to emerge.
Boom!
With the array broken, all the mechanisms were instantly unlocked, the ground split apart, and a bronze sarcophagus began to rise from the ground, exuding eerie fluctuations.
"Let us welcome Lord Ghost General."
Seeing the bronze sarcophagus appear, the man in the blood-red robe couldn’t help but rejoice and, along with the dozen or so individuals in black robes, kneeled and said in unison.
"Ghost General? Another figure at the level of the Eight Demon Generals?"
Ye Xuan’s eyes shifted. Each of the Eight Demon Generals was formidable. During the peak period of the Black Demon Sect, each Demon General was a powerful fiend dominating their own domain. Even though the Black Demon Sect had long been destroyed, the current Eight Demon Generals were still not to be underestimated. The Vampire General had previously pushed Ye Xuan to an extremely difficult situation, forcing him to use the Flood Dragon Power to finally defeat him, and the Vampire General’s strength wasn’t even the most powerful among them.
Who could be lying in this sarcophagus now?
Bang!
Suddenly, the sarcophagus exploded, kicking up a tremendous amount of dust. From within that cloud of dust, a black shadow burst out, and a withered claw reached out, grabbing a man in a black robe and pulling him into the murk.
Ah!
In the next instant, screams rang out as a body, missing half of its head, was thrown out. Beneath the clearing dust, a hemp-clad, ghost-like old man gradually came into view. A sinister smile hung on his face, and bits of white brain matter dripped from between his teeth, plopping onto the ground.
Ugh!
Upon seeing this gruesome sight, Dong Lin behind Ye Xuan could no longer bear it. Her stomach churned and she vomited violently.
"Who?"
Despite the slight disturbance, the hemp-clad old man, a Martial Sect Master with extremely acute hearing, immediately noticed the noise. His hollow, ghost-like eyes fixed on Ye Xuan’s hiding spot, and he punched out, sending a skull-shaped fist imprint howling toward them.
"We’re finished."
As they watched the terrifying skull fist imprint roaring towards them like a bellowing ghost, Hua Hong and his two companions turned ashen-faced, with a wave of despair welling up inside them.
Thud!
Just before the skull fist imprint could hit its target, Ye Xuan’s figure flashed out, and he struck out fiercely with his palm, smashing the skull fist imprint to pieces!
