Chapter 594: Chapter 594: Just Any Tom, Dick, or Harry
"Too inhumane, making me go for negotiations in such hot weather without even giving me the car keys—it’s like plotting to kill her own husband!"
Ye Xuan walked down the street, took off his jacket, and tied it around his waist, feeling very depressed.
Lin Tong had gone into a room and hadn’t come out again, so Ye Xuan, without the car keys, could only walk out.
Standing at an intersection, he looked around for a taxi, intending to head directly to King Company.
Perhaps because of the sweltering heat, almost every taxi was full.
Ye Xuan had been waiting here for ten minutes and hadn’t seen a single empty taxi!
With the blazing sun overhead, Ye Xuan felt drenched in sweat and as if he were being roasted alive. Surely he wasn’t expected to run all the way in this heat?
Suddenly, as he passed by a tea shop next door, Ye Xuan’s eyes lit up.
His mouth was dry and parched; it would be great to go inside to cool off and have a chilled herbal tea to quench his thirst before heading to King Company.
Humph! They can rest, but can’t I drink tea?
Thinking this, he wiped the sweat from his forehead, stopped, and turned to enter the tea shop.
Nowadays, with the invasion of Western food culture, an abundance of coffee shops, dessert houses, and ice cream parlors had won the hearts of the younger generation, causing traditional teahouses to gradually decline and interest to wane.
Apart from some elderly folks who still chose to drink tea, the mainstream white-collar office workers rarely spent their free time in teahouses for leisure; they were more likely to be found in coffee shops and milk tea parlors, influenced by foreign culture.
However, this tea shop had innovated within the traditional model with masterful creativity!
On top of tea drinks, they included various juices and tea beverages popular among young people, like honey tea and grapefruit tea, coupled with the sale of cold drinks, catering to the needs of many young men and women.
Additionally, with its trendy and stylish yet elegant interior, the shop was attractive and had become popular among young people.
Therefore, the clientele here was mostly composed of elite executives and distinguished professionals!
As Ye Xuan pushed open the door to enter, he immediately caught the attention of several staff members.
Seeing Ye Xuan’s current attire, those staff members were taken aback.
One of them, a female employee in a uniform, approached Ye Xuan and said, somewhat politely, "I’m sorry, sir, but we don’t have any vacant positions. If you’re looking for a job, you might want to try elsewhere."
Huh?
Hearing this, Ye Xuan was taken aback, but after a glance at his own appearance, he quickly understood.
Due to the excessive heat, he had been under the sun for so long; he was drenched in sweat, and his clothes were soaked through. His image was indeed a bit disheveled...
Damn it, after all this time, they mistook me for a job seeker!
With a face full of incredulity and feeling somewhat speechless, Ye Xuan wasn’t in the mood to argue with the waitress about his appearance.
Clearing his throat, he immediately said, "You’ve misunderstood; I’m here to drink tea, not to look for a job."
"Oh..."
Upon hearing this, the waitress’s face turned red, followed by a moment of embarrassed realization that she had misspoke.
"I’m sorry, sir, please come in!"
The waitress hurriedly ushered Ye Xuan into the teahouse.
Ye Xuan walked straight in, looked around for a moment, and chose a quiet spot to sit down.
"Sir, here’s our tea menu. May I ask what kind of tea would you like?"
Meanwhile, the waitress walked over with the tea menu and asked.
Just as Ye Xuan had taken a seat and was about to speak, an unhappy voice suddenly came from nearby:
"Damn it, the quality of this teahouse is getting lower and lower; they let in any Tom, Dick, or Harry! A ragged bumpkin comes in for tea, and it’s really off-putting."
The voice was loud enough for many in the room to hear.
Ye Xuan frowned and looked in the direction of the voice to find a man and a woman sitting at the table next to his.
The man was dressed in a suit and looked quite distinguished, apparently in his thirties, with neatly groomed, slick hair, and was now looking provocatively in Ye Xuan’s direction.
Across from him sat a woman dressed extravagantly in an OL outfit with black stockings, her face heavily made up.
Both of them glanced at Ye Xuan with disdain, frowning slightly with scornful expressions.
And that scornful comment had come from the garishly made-up woman!
Seemingly eager to impress his companion, the man in the suit glared at Ye Xuan and chuckled coldly:
"Waitress, where’s your boss? Get him out here and see for himself—how can you let a construction worker in for tea? That’s disgraceful!"
Seeing that the young man dared not retort, the suit-attired man curled his lips and said equally loudly.
Overhearing this remark, the waitress with the tea menu approached, looking rather embarrassed.
Nevertheless, maintaining a pleasant demeanor, she still smiled and said, "I’m very sorry, sir. Our boss is out on business and is not in at the moment. If you have any concerns, please feel free to let us know."
"And you can make the decisions?"
The man in the suit sneered with arrogance.
"If you have any requests, please tell us, and we’ll convey them to the boss," the waitress said with a forced smile.
Pleased that he was being given such attention, the suited man’s vanity swelled. Glancing at the glamorous woman beside him with a smug look, he leisurely crossed his legs, squinted at Ye Xuan, and said snidely, "How do you run a business here, letting in construction workers from the work-site, reeking of sweat? Who knows whether he carries any infectious diseases? If we get infected, can you take responsibility?"
Assuming Ye Xuan was a construction worker because of his sweat-soaked, casual attire, the man did not hold back with his offensive remarks.
Next to him, the thickly made-up OL woman also showed a look of disgust, chiming in: "Exactly, look at him, all dirty and smelly! Can anyone even drink tea in peace? At least consider the customer’s standards first!"
While speaking, she fanned the air in front of her nose with great disdain:
"We white-collar and gold-collar workers drink tea as a symbol of our status. What right does a construction worker have to come in here? Isn’t this humiliating us?"
