Chapter 2515: Chapter 2505: Really Dead?

Just when Long Yan noticed that the wooden board above the burly man’s head was slightly loose, a loud noise came from the upper floors of the Mercenary Guild. Everyone was stunned, even the burly man holding Sun Baxian with one hand was bewildered.

A creaking sound was heard, and the upper wooden boards gradually started to fall off.

The Mercenary Guild is the only multi-story building in the small town, and the loosening of the boards above isn’t a small matter. Besides, there was no time to worry about Sun Baxian; the burly man threw Sun Baxian away and then swiftly left the spot, running to another open area.

Sun Baxian didn’t get up, he just sat on the ground and softly chanted.

“If Yama wants you dead by three, who dares keep you alive till five?”

A faint sound came from the ceiling, and a small object fell from above the burly man’s head, hitting him directly on the temples. The burly man fell into a pool of blood without even making a sound.

This happened too quickly, from the moment the wooden boards loosened to the burly man being killed by the falling object, it was all an instant, leaving Long Yan no time to react.

Sun Baxian sighed, picked up the three copper coins still on the table, and walked slowly to the burly man’s side, murmuring a few words.

The thing that took the burly man’s life was a three-inch-long iron nail. The sharp nail penetrated the burly man’s temples in an instant, and the burly man, who had made a living in the Demon Beast Forest all his life, died under such a small nail.

“Time, fate.”

As soon as Sun Baxian uttered these words, he straightened his body. By then, quick-footed people had already found the management personnel inside the Mercenary Guild. Upon witnessing this scene, the staff were also stunned, yet not many people were surprised, for lives aren’t valued highly here among mercenaries. Generally, compensation would settle the matter.

Long Yan sat back on his chair, amazed by Sun Baxian’s abilities. Initially, he thought the boards falling killed the burly man, but after the burly man dodged, the nail still claimed his life.

This is just a small episode; actually, all mercenaries know Sun Baxian’s fortune-telling is accurate. As for the friends of the burly man, they had no interest in drinking anymore and went to inform the burly man’s family.

Now everyone’s gaze was on Sun Baxian. The man walked to Long Yan, pulled a chair on his left, and sat down. All mercenaries focused their attention on Long Yan’s table, with some even showing signs of sympathy.

Most people refer to him as Sun Baxian, but because those who seek his fortune-telling are often doomed, it was said before that Sun Baxian typically tells the fortunes of those about to die. Besides the nickname “Three Oddities,” he also has a more prominent name in this small town, Sun Yanwang.

“Well, Sun Baxian, I don’t have any money for you to tell my fortune.”

Sun Baxian, sitting beside Long Yan, didn’t speak but grabbed the peanuts on the table, munching them with a smile while watching Long Yan.

“No matter, how could I, Sun, care about trivial money of those doomed to die?”

Sun Baxian said with a smile, putting more peanuts into his mouth. Long Yan wasn’t angry upon hearing this; he smiled back at Sun Baxian, while Chu Meng beside him hugged Long Yan’s arm tightly.

“Actually, you’re not destined to die.”

Sun Baxian sighed, waved his hand regretfully, and continued.

“But you defy heaven’s will, how could someone like you have a good ending?”

Sun Baxian’s voice wasn’t loud, only heard clearly by Long Yan, even Chu Meng beside him heard it fuzzily.

“One must do something different in this life.”

Long Yan’s gaze focused, and Sun Baxian’s identity started to become mysterious. Initially, Long Yan thought Sun Baxian was someone from the village head’s side because Long Yan felt a surge of True Qi when the burly man died.

He thought Sun Baxian had done something, but upon investigating, Long Yan didn’t sense any True Qi in Sun Baxian, essentially meaning Sun Baxian is just an ordinary person, not even a mercenary.

This made Long Yan slightly anxious, mainly because he couldn’t determine Sun Baxian’s intentions.

Unexpectedly, Sun Baxian smiled, as though aware of Long Yan’s vigilance, he said.

“Don’t worry, I’m not your enemy; I’m merely guiding you through confusion.”

Sun Baxian’s words had a compelling effect, causing Long Yan to lower his defenses, even loosening his grip on the Sea Bowl.

“Actually, you aren’t in a hopeless situation; you still have a slight chance of survival, but only if you abandon what you’re about to do.”

Though Sun Baxian is blind, his eyes seemed infectious, as if shining a light on Long Yan. But upon hearing these words, Long Yan immediately regained clarity, shaking his head.

“Impossible!”

Sun Baxian was taken aback, his previously composed demeanor vanished, replaced by urgency.

“Why? Don’t you value your life?”

Seeing Sun Baxian’s urgency, Long Yan merely laughed; not only had he promised the elderly man of the Mercenary Guild, but he, Long Yan, would also do it himself. Moreover, he held a grudge against Thunder Leopard of the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect, such twisted experiments must be eradicated.

“Of course I’m afraid, but if I listen to you, Sun Baxian, there’s still a glimmer of hope, or abandoning it would surely lead to death; doing it offers a chance of survival.”

Sun Baxian nearly laughed in frustration at the twisted logic; most interpret it as death upon doing it, survival upon refraining.

“There’s karmic retribution in Heaven Dao. How can you succeed when acting against it? Look at the more powerful Zhuge Wuhou and Monk Xuanzang; neither met a good end.”

Long Yan merely shook his head upon hearing this. Zhuge Wuhou died under Seven Stars Borrow Life, Monk Xuanzang perished sealing the Fire Demon Beast. Though both died, they go down in history, with countless beings within the inner world still admiring Monk Xuanzang.

“Alas.”

Sun Baxian merely sighed, said no more, picked up his signboard, and walked outside. Long Yan quietly sat on the bench, watching Sun Baxian leave.

“What did you say just now?”

Chu Meng stepped forward to ask after Sun Baxian left, but Long Yan merely flicked his fingers, hitting Chu Meng’s forehead, ignoring the cries of pain.

Defying heaven’s will? I’ve always defied heaven’s will; let me walk a path no one dares tread. What slight chance of survival, one’s destiny should be in one’s own hands. What nonsense about moving leading to death, stagnant leading to life.

Long Yan glanced at Chu Meng rubbing her forehead and smiled.
