Chapter 2207 - 2207 2197 Troops at the City Gates

2207: Chapter 2197: Troops at the City Gates 2207: Chapter 2197: Troops at the City Gates The surroundings made both people freeze in place.

From the entrance of Chu Official City, continuous war cries could be heard, with hordes of monsters rushing towards the city like an army.

Countless streaks of green monster air shot out from within Chu Official City, instantly striking many of the monsters that were running.

They fell to the ground one after another, but the monsters behind them charged fearlessly, leaping towards the city walls above Chu Official City.

This scene astonishes Long Yan greatly; he never expected to see such warfare among the monsters.

The confrontations between the two armies were still simple, relying solely on sacrificing lives to bolster their ranks.

Xing Rou, on the other hand, seemed restless.

If she wasn’t with Long Yan searching for the Fire Qilin today, she would certainly be commanding the battle right now.

“Is there also warfare in the In the world?” Long Yan asked, looking at the intense battlefield.

Xing Rou nodded in response, indicating that such battles weren’t rare in the In the world.

The Demon Race was belligerent; this was a well-known fact to everyone.

Conflicts could arise over food, martial arts, or simply due to the innate instinct to plunder.

The In the world had three Great Cities.

Aside from Chu Official City, which was the strongest, the powers of Gigantic King City in the north and Sky Demon City in the south were somewhat weaker.

The In the world wasn’t too expansive, with food and water in very limited supply, necessitating warfare to cull excessive population.

Xing Rou’s voice was tinged with sadness.

In truth, the Three Cities had no real reason to battle, but scarce food and resources necessitated the elimination of monsters that couldn’t survive – an unavoidable reality.

“Have you never thought of changing this?” Long Yan was curious, as it seemed from earlier on Demon Mountain that there were not few resources around the Demon Race, and resorting to war to reduce population was naturally the most foolish method.

Clearly more informed about the situation, Xing Rou didn’t see it as clearly as Long Yan did, not to mention the powerful Fire Qilin that resided secluded within Demon Mountain.

Even the resources of the other mountains and lakes were not so easily enjoyed, as countless Strong Ones resided there, leaving only about a kilometer radius near the city for the Demon Race.

Long Yan cast his Gaze towards the Battlefield, his mind seemingly preoccupied.

The In the world was a place where Monster Air crisscrossed; the Demon Suppressing Tower was probably where the In the world and the Real World intersect.

As such, this World seldom fell under the rule of the Heaven Dao, which only governed the Real World.

The battle below had escalated, and beneath Chu Official City’s City Wall was now covered with a thick layer of corpses.

These demons had already gained Spiritual Wisdom.

Rather than dying in the jaws of Demonic Beasts, they preferred to die in warfare – the In the world at its finest, never lacking Soldiers.

The attacking Demon Army climbed over the corpses of their companions and up the City Wall, their cold, glinting claws gouging holes into the wall as they swarmed atop it like locusts.

When the battle was drawn to this close, it largely turned into hand-to-hand combat.

Soldiers from Chu Official City drew their Long Knives and fought in close quarters with the Demon Soldiers, life after life ended, screams of agony rose – both sides aimed to kill with a single strike.

As fellow demons, this was the least they could do for their companions.

Neither of the two could enter Chu Official City for a while, so they could only hide in the Woodland, watching the battle unfold until the sky darkened and the city’s defenders valiantly repelled the attacking Demon Soldiers.

Only then did the two make their way back to Chu Official City through the shrubs.

“Where did you go?” Bai Mu’s typically fair face was now blackened, still clad in her heavy Armor, her expression clearly unhappy as she looked at Xing Rou beside Long Yan, who in turn hung her head silently.

“I had her take me to Demon Mountain.”

Long Yan came out to give Xing Rou a little help, smoothing things over, which made Bai Mu’s furrowed brows finally relax.

After all, guiding Long Yan was a task he had arranged.

“My subordinate lacks experience and has caused you trouble.”

Bai Mu exchanged formalities with Long Yan, and although Long Yan did not mind the inconvenience, he immediately delved into the topic and asked about the preparation of the antidote.

Bai Mu’s face turned a deep red upon hearing the inquiry about the antidote.

It turned out that the antidote required a herb called Heavenly Star Grass, but not many apothecaries in the city were willing to sell it because this Heavenly Star Grass only grew on the side of Demon Mountain, which was a true Forbidden Land of Demon Mountain.

Not only were there Demonic Beasts in there but also many Zombies.

“Zombies?”

Upon hearing the word “zombie,” Long Yan was taken aback.

He had heard of these creatures in his past life.

Legend had it that their bodies were impervious to swords and spears, and while they retained some human traits, they were naturally bloodthirsty murderers that would kill any living being passing before their eyes.

Many Sects in the Star Domain had once united to exterminate these creatures.

But zombies transcended the cycle of reincarnation, and obviously were not so easily eradicated.

Naturally, the result was a defeat.

However, this battle had inflicted great damage on the zombies.

Since then, all zombies had retreated back into Thousand Bone Mountain and had not emerged again.

Long Yan had only heard of their existence but had never seen them with his own eyes.

Bai Mu sighed helplessly, right at the time when Gigantic King City launched its attack, and he had to command the battle and even go to the front lines himself.

This made him very busy for the moment.

The current assault was just a probe, and there would be more intense attacks to come.

He really couldn’t spare the time.

Long Yan was planning to ask for the appearance of the Heavenly Star Grass and then search for it himself, but the hopeful look in Xing Rou’s eyes made him sigh helplessly.

“Tomorrow, I’ll help you fend off the attack from Gigantic King City.”

Long Yan wasn’t a savior; he just couldn’t stand Xing Rou’s look and agreed to help Bai Mu defend the city.

White Mu’s face showed a momentary delight at his words.

It’s known that although the main purpose was population depletion, the winner could take anything from the loser, including food.

In the world within, food was much more valuable than Demon Life.

Long Yan did not interfere further; it was their world’s Rule, and it wasn’t his place to disrupt it.

During dinner, Long Yan learned that Bai Mu was the City Lord of Chu Official City and had grown up in this inner world.

Above the Three Cities, there was a Demon King who commanded the entire inner world and was his Father.

However, Long Yan noticed that when speaking of his father, a hint of coldness flickered in Bai Mu’s eyes.

“Do you usually eat this stuff?”

Looking at the meal served, Long Yan’s mouth twitched slightly.

What was placed in the plates before him was neither meat nor vegetables, but strips of tree bark.

Is this what people in this inner world usually eat?

Bai Mu gave a bitter smile, mentioning that having such things to stave off hunger was already quite good, and even some places in the Demon Race couldn’t afford these.

The resources of Demon Mountain had been occupied by Demon Beasts.

Long Yan looked thoughtfully at the plate before him.
