In the courtyard, Long Yan debated how to meet Bai Ling.

He considered numerous strategies, but none of them seemed prudent in their current location— the Demon God Emperor Palace.

“Is Sect Leader Long there?”

Suddenly, a soft and cautious voice echoed from outside the courtyard.

Long Yan followed the direction of the sound, spotting a girl clad in a red dress standing just beyond the courtyard.

She was on high alert, her gaze vigilantly scanning her surroundings.

“I am Long Yan, who are you?”

Long Yan moved forward, scrutinizing the red-dressed maiden as he softly spoke.

He had an inkling about the purpose of her visit—it probably had something to do with Bai Ling.

“Are you really Sect Leader Long?”

The red-dressed maiden was called Hong Yun.

She looked at Long Yan, her gaze becoming somewhat dazed, evidencing her astonishment.

The man rumored to be the First Genius of the Emperor Domain, an idol-like figure, was so young and gallant.

He came across as approachable—an image contrasting sharply with what she had imagined.

“As true as it can be.”

Long Yan replied with a smile.

After half a moment, Hong Yun regained her senses from her stunned state.

Realizing her rudeness, she immediately bowed towards Long Yan and apologized, “Sect Leader Long, my apologies for my rudeness!”

At this moment, Hong Yun began to understand why the Empress wished to meet Long Yan.

“The Empress sent you to find me, didn’t she?”

Long Yan kept a pleasant smile on his face.

“Yes.”

Hong Yun softly confirmed, then continued, “I am Hong Yun, the personal maid of the Empress.

The Empress knew you were coming to the Demon God Emperor Palace and she is waiting for you at the Moon-catching Peak.

She asked me to bring you to her.”

This was the task Bai Ling had entrusted to her.

“That’s convenient.

I would like to meet the Empress as well.

You lead the way.”

Long Yan’s gaze slightly moved, then signaled Hong Yun to take the lead.

“Sect Leader Long, please follow me.”

Soon, Long Yan and Hong Yun left the courtyard.

As Long Yan followed Hong Yun out, Leng Youlan sensed something.

She could clearly hear the exchange between Long Yan and Hong Yun.

“I hope nothing goes awry.”

A hint of worry surfaced in Leng Youlan’s eyes.

Bai Ling’s need to secretly meet Long Yan revealed clear reservations.

Should anyone find out about it in the Demon God Emperor Palace, it would undoubtedly incite a major uproar.

Hong Yun led the way, with Long Yan walking closely behind.

Their route was visibly unusual.

“Sect Leader Long, in order to prevent unnecessary misunderstanding, this is the safest way.

Excuse the inconvenience for now,” Hong Yun whispered to Long Yan.

“No problem.”

Long Yan wasn’t concerned about trifles.

All that mattered to him was seeing Bai Ling.

After what felt like an hour, Long Yan and Hong Yun emerged from a very concealed secret passage.

Ahead stood a majestic peak—an imposing monolith shrouded in mist that seemed likely to scoop up the crescent moon hanging in the sky.

The ambience was one of dreamy languor.

“Sect Leader Long, this is the Moon-catching Peak.

Let’s go up.”

After a quick appraisal of Moon-catching Peak, Long Yan ascended towards the top of the peak with Hong Yun.

They reached the pinnacle in no time.

“Sect Leader Long, this place, the Moon-catching Peak, is seldom visited and is relatively safe.

You can go meet the Empress by yourself.

I will leave first!”

Hong Yun left quickly, disappearing into the dense forest after a few leaps.

“It is indeed quiet here.

It seems Bai Ling isn’t faring well at the Demon God Emperor Palace.”

While observing the Moon-catching Peak, Long Yan surveyed his surroundings.

The peak exuded very little vitality.

The fact that Bai Ling had asked Hong Yun to bring him here suggested she had significant reservations, which confirmed that Bai Ling was in a poor situation.

Subsequently, Long Yan walked forward, stepping out from the dense forest and onto a large rock.

However, Bai Ling was nowhere to be seen.

“Bai Ling, I’m here, come out.”

Long Yan didn’t use his Divine Sense to search for her.

He knew she was here.

As soon as his words fell, a figure clad in a white dress emerged from the woods—her lotus steps light as she moved onto the large rock, standing still ten meters away from Long Yan.

Their eyes met, their acquaintance both foreign and intimate.

“It’s been a while!”

After a short pause, Long Yan was the first to break the silence.

“Yes, it has been a while!”

Bai Ling softly responded, a hint of smile forming on her stunning face.

“In three days, it’s your wedding with Young Master Qilin.

Congratulations!”

Long Yan spoke with a smile, but his words lacked conviction for some unknown reason.

“Are you really congratulating me?”

Bai Ling looked at Long Yan, a hint of desolation in her eyes.

“If it’s your choice, then I wish you happiness.”

Long Yan’s gaze shifted elsewhere, his deep eyes stirring with emotions.

“What if it’s not my choice?”

Bai Ling pressed further, expectation shimmering in her eyes.

“If it’s not your will…”

His gaze moved back to Bai Ling, resolute as he declared, “I will take you away!”

I will take you away!

Bai Ling slightly trembled at his humbly phrased words, words that she had seemingly been waiting for a long time to hear.

All of a sudden, Bai Ling’s gaze shifted elsewhere, perching on a protruding round stone.

As she turned, a fleeting look of despair surged in her eyes, quickly concealed from view.

Long Yan also sat on another protruded round stone, together with Bai Ling, gazing at the boundless starry sky.

The endless dome above was adorned with only a few listless stars, paralleling the current mood of Bai Ling and Long Yan.

“Long Yan, you shouldn’t have come!”

After a long silence, Bai Ling suddenly voiced her thoughts to Long Yan.

“But I came anyway.”

Long Yan responded.

“Yes, you did.”

Bai Ling’s emotions were visibly wavering: “You know, the one person I least wanted to see during this wedding, is you!”

Her heart was conflicted.

Due to her upcoming wedding with Young Master Qilin, she wanted to meet Long Yan one last time before the event, yet she didn’t want him to witness the ceremony.

She couldn’t change anything.

She knew that Long Yan could accomplish whatever he set out to do, but she could not.

“‘I have a reason for coming!”

Long Yan looked at Bai Ling, his expression solemn.

This time, Zhenyang Sect got an invitation from the Demon God Emperor Palace; he had no choice but to attend.

Even without the invitation, he would still come.

Perhaps there wasn’t any reason for it, but sometimes, having no reason was reason enough.

After seeing Bai Ling, Long Yan was even more certain about his suspicions: Bai Ling really was not doing well.
