Chapter 467: Chapter 468: Acting Coquettishly

Aunt Rui added more food to Sheng Yan’s bowl, "Eat more, we knew you’d be back tonight. Ah Fang specially cooked a pot full of dishes to nourish you. Here, you’ve worked hard, let me reward you with a chicken leg."

The smile on Sheng Yan’s face became somewhat stiff, unable to say that he had already eaten three chicken legs.

Mrs. He had cooked a whole pot of chicken legs!

At a glance, there were more than a dozen, dear!

He looked gloomily at the chicken leg in his bowl and sighed softly in his heart. Even if he didn’t want to eat anymore, he had to bear it.

He Jinxia stood at the entrance of the hall, and seeing the helpless expression on Sheng Yan’s face, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Her laughter caught the attention of Mrs. He and Aunt Rui, both of whose eyes immediately lit up.

"Jinxia, you’re here! Jinxia, come over. Your mother has specially cooked a great pot of food to welcome you back!" Aunt Rui hurriedly said.

He Jinxia responded with a smile, and even though she had already eaten at the company, the feeling of eating at home was different.

Sitting next to Sheng Yan, He Jinxia received an even warmer welcome than Sheng Yan, as Mrs. He and Aunt Rui kept adding chicken legs and other dishes to her plate.

Soon, the mound of food in her bowl was comparable to a small hill.

The happy smile on He Jinxia’s face suddenly tasted a bit bitter as she blinked at the food, thinking it was a bit too enthusiastic.

She looked up at the two elders who were staring at her with gleaming eyes, full of anticipation.

He Jinxia swallowed and began to eat the food, giving a thumbs up and saying vaguely, "Delicious, so delicious! I haven’t eaten such tasty food in a long time!"

Mrs. He smiled contentedly and said, "If it’s tasty, eat more. If it’s not enough, I’ll go cook some more for you."

Buried in her pile of food, He Jinxia immediately coughed a few times and quickly said, "No need, this is more than enough."

If she continued to eat, even two stomachs wouldn’t be enough!

Seeing He Jinxia eating eagerly and enjoying the food, the two elders relaxed, went over to the sofa, sat down, and started watching a TV drama.

They had a bunch of questions to ask, but since the kids were still eating, they thought it could wait until after the meal.

After eating for a while, He Jinxia felt so full that she could no longer continue, staring tearfully at the half bowl of rice and mound of dishes remaining.

Next to her, Sheng Yan’s bowl was empty, and he slowly picked at his food, savoring the ordinary home-cooked dishes with a sense of refinement.

He Jinxia looked at him with a mixture of resentment several times.

Sheng Yan, without a glance, pretended not to see, and continued eating his meal alone, truly the picture of casual elegance.

Seeing this, He Jinxia couldn’t help but poke her rice with her chopsticks, as if the rice were a representation of the vexing Sheng Yan.

So indifferent, how excessive!

Just a few pokes later, suddenly a pair of hands took the bowl and quickly transferred half of the food to his own bowl, then placed the rest in front of He Jinxia, whispering,

"If you can’t eat it, don’t force yourself. Nobody’s asking you to ’put on a brave front.’"

He Jinxia felt a bit regretful inside but was too embarrassed to refuse her mother’s goodwill.

She had been busy with work all year and hadn’t spent much time at home or with her mother. She was happy to make her mother happy, even if she truly couldn’t eat anymore.

He Jinxia cast a forlorn glance at Sheng Yan and muttered quietly, "I can’t eat anymore."

Her voice was soft and mellow, sweet as if she were a kitten, cooing and acting coquettishly.

Sheng Yan paused, his eyes darkening and his voice husky as he said, "You’ve lost a lot of weight, eat a bit more."

He Jinxia looked around and saw that not far away, the two elders were engrossed in a TV drama and weren’t paying attention to them. She couldn’t help but tug gently at the small corner of his shirt, continuing to act coquettishly:

"I really can’t eat any more."

Sheng Yan remained unmoved.

He Jinxia’s eyes darted around, and her hand stealthily slipped inside his shirt, poking his lean waist as she continued, "I really can’t eat any more."

Sheng Yan’s expression remained unchanged, but he quietly caught her hand, his voice husky, "Be good, eat a little more."

He Jinxia pouted, "Okay, a little more then."

She bowed her head and picked up a piece of green vegetables from the bowl to eat. After a while, she said, "I’m full."

Then, she added, "I’m really full."

Her expression was seriously serious!

Sheng Yan gently caressed the hand she had snuck around his waist and let go of her.

Those little hands, like nimble little snakes, immediately wriggled out.

A second later, He Jinxia pushed the bowl in front of her to Sheng Yan’s side, blinking at him with eyes so wide they almost turned into almond shapes, radiating an indescribably endearing and innocent charm.

The inkiness in Sheng Yan’s eyes deepened even further. He took the bowl from her, dumping all its contents into his own, and whispered a gentle reminder, "Eat some fruit."

He Jinxia made an "OK" gesture with her hand and started eating a dragon fruit that was placed beside her.

Dragon fruits are either red-hearted or white-hearted; He Jinxia was eating a red-hearted one, which was plump, juicy, and especially sweet. Soon, her mouth was stained a bright red.

Enjoying the fruit, He Jinxia took another and placed it next to Sheng Yan, indicating that he should have some when he was free.

Sheng Yan was in the process of finishing He Jinxia’s portion of the meal, eating in a surprisingly refined manner. Yet, the food quickly disappeared.

Sheng Yan glanced at the dragon fruit and said leisurely, "Don’t feel like peeling it."

He Jinxia didn’t think much of it and took the dragon fruit, spooning it into slices and placing them into a new bowl for him.

Sheng Yan ate a slice and said with restrained coyness, "Not bad."

The corners of He Jinxia’s mouth lifted into a smile, and she scooped him a large portion.

The two, one eating and the other feeding, got along very harmoniously.

Every now and then, the elders glanced over, filled with nothing but relief.

Aunt Rui felt relieved. Her foolish son genuinely seemed to have won over the girl, finally stepping away from being single since birth.

Mrs. He also felt relieved. The two children got along very well. If anything should happen to Jinxia in the entertainment circle in the future, Sheng Yan could help out and take care of her.

It’s said that the journey of a child worries the mother greatly; Jinxia, a girl all alone in the entertainment circle, made Mrs. He anxious, even though her career was thriving now.

Only a few days ago, she had seen news of a foreign female artist who had committed suicide due to depression, which terrified her.

Mrs. He thought to herself that she needed to find an opportunity to speak with Sheng Yan, asking him to take Jinxia out more often when he was free.

She was getting older, and the activities of the young were beyond her reach. Being of the same age, they probably had a lot of common topics.

The two aging mothers were truly worried sick over their children.

After dinner, Sheng Yan and Jinxia also came to sit on the sofa, where Mrs. He asked Jinxia how many days she would be resting this time.

He Jinxia responded, "I was planning to rest indefinitely, but there’s a New Year’s film set to premiere next February that’s in desperate need. There was an issue with one of the female actors in the film, and both the production team and the director decided to replace her, changing the actress’s face to mine. I have to go and save the day tomorrow."
