Chapter 153: Chapter 153 No One Can Help Her
Luo Dingxin and Gu Runfei walked in from behind and heard their conversation; they couldn’t help but chuckle.
Gu Runfei was uncommonly gentle with He Jinxia today, taking the initiative to say, "Jinxia, you don’t know, the moment you left, these two wouldn’t stop talking in the crew about how much they missed the meals you cooked, missing you so much they couldn’t even eat or drink properly."
Luo Dingxin strongly agreed, "Ever since we had the meals Jinxia cooked, all other food has become bland to us."
He Jinxia gave a bashful smile; her words were beyond reproach, "Then, how about we all buy some groceries and gather together soon, and I’ll cook for you all once more."
No matter how turbulent things were inside the crew, at least on the surface, everyone maintained an appearance of friendliness and harmony.
Soon, the meal was served; He Jinxia told them to order whatever else they wanted to eat and then quietly started eating herself.
Yang Xiaoqing, as always, was very interested in He Jinxia’s dieting and curiously asked her about it, while Luo Sifang was everywhere, sometimes running to the boys’ group, sometimes back to their group.
Because she was close to Yang Xiaoqing, He Jinxia unsurprisingly noticed the fleeting look of disgust on Yang Xiaoqing’s face when Luo Sifang approached.
She lowered her gaze, hiding the flicker of interest in her eyes; these two were quite amusing.
In the middle of it, she stood up to go to the restroom.
He Jinxia didn’t actually go to the restroom, though; instead, she went to the front desk to pay the bill. When she returned, she just saw Gu Runfei standing at a corner outside the private room, making a phone call.
Gu Runfei was pacing back and forth on the spot, with his back to He Jinxia, and didn’t see her; she instinctively hid on the other side.
The man’s voice intermittently drifted through the air, tinged with irritation:
"You are overthinking it, there is nothing between me and.... What’s there to capture! Just normal... communication... Enough, why do you bother so much, it’s annoying! There’s nothing..."
Soon after, Luo Sifang’s crisp voice loudly carried through, "Senior Gu, Brother Dingxin is calling you to drink a toast!"
Gu Runfei responded loudly, mumbled a few words to the person on the phone, and then hung up to enter the private room.
He Jinxia continued to hide in the corner for a while longer; she then turned on her cellphone and searched up Gu Runfei’s current girlfriend, who was also a popular actress in the industry.
Looking at the photo of that female star smiling radiantly, He Jinxia couldn’t help but shake her head slightly, turned off the page, pocketed her phone, and entered the private room.
The enticing pulls of the industry were too numerous, constantly absorbing fresh blood, and with each new generation overpowering the previous, if one didn’t have strong self-control and a clear sense of right and wrong, it was easy to get lost in it.
The dinner lasted for two whole hours, and finally, the group took a group photo together and left the place on a good note.
When Luo Dingxin was leaving, he wanted to say something to He Jinxia, hesitated as he looked at her, but ultimately could not find the right moment to speak and had to leave quietly.
He Jinxia had noticed Luo Dingxin’s odd behavior early in the morning but pretended not to see it, keeping up a lively chat with Yang Xiaoqing, not giving Luo Dingxin a chance to come over for a chat.
Luo Dingxin’s special attention toward her hadn’t gone unnoticed; if there was no intention, then it’s best not to provide an opportunity from the start, so as to avoid unnecessary troubles later.
Cheng Xiaohua drove her back to the hotel.
In the car, He Jinxia opened Weibo and scrolled through, sharing the group picture posted by other members of the crew with a few encouraging words, then turned off Weibo.
She spent the night uneventfully, and the next day, He Jinxia returned to the crew to resume filming.
The first scene filmed upon returning to the set was conducted under Gu Qiao’s direction, featuring a dramatic crying scene that marked the second major turning point in Su Qingwan’s entire life.
Su Qingwan was gentle and introverted by nature, even carrying a hint of timidity in her bones. Falling for Su Qingying was the first turning point in her character.
The second turning point in her character came with the death of her personal maid, Xuexue.
Xuexue was beaten to death by the servants of the Ciming Family, her back a bloody, indiscernible mess, her death exceedingly tragic.
Because of the previous hardships imposed by the Ciming Family, Su Qingwan’s health had deteriorated from when she first got married. None of the servants around her were competent, resulting in her finding Xuexue’s body in the snowy field two hours later.
In the script, Xuexue’s body, wrapped in a torn mat, was carried out by the Ciming Family’s servants and discarded at a mass burial ground.
He Jinxia wanted to film the scene where she finds Xuexue’s body and breaks down in tears.
Xuexue’s death completely chilled Su Qingwan’s heart and toughened her up as she formally began her descent into villainy.
The first day back on set after the holiday was for shooting the highlight scene. Feeling a heavy pressure yet unsurprised, He Jinxia thought this was very much Gu Qiao’s style.
The makeup was done, the snowy scene was set, all department members were in place, and as the clapper was sounded, He Jinxia’s calm expression suddenly turned to panic.
She struggled to her feet in the snow, shouting the maid’s name loudly.
"Xuexue, where are you? Xuexue! Xuexue!!"
She stumbled into the inner courtyard, uncaring of her disheveled appearance, intercepting every passing servant with a desperate plea, "Have you seen Xuexue?"
But the answer she always got was no.
Tears uncontrollably streamed down He Jinxia’s face. The whole world seemed to spin around her as she stood there alone, the relentlessly falling snow piling upon her, never before had she felt so helplessly weak!
There was no one to help her!!
"Xuexue, you must be fine, you just have to be fine..." He Jinxia murmured between sobs, her fists clenched tightly.
"Cut!"
Gu Qiao’s face slightly darkened as he said, "The last line needs to be shot again. Your emotions aren’t fully engaged yet. Sadness, helplessness, worry... you need to bring these out more poignantly when you cry."
He Jinxia stood motionless, silently bowing her head to gather her emotions.
The tears from her eyes slid down her cheeks, dripping to the ground, leaving faint, quickly dispersing wet marks.
He Jinxia squeezed her fists slightly, knowing that simply this was not enough.
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and continually stirred the memories buried deep within of her previous life, touching upon some grey memories she wished she could forget forever.
Su Qingwan had experienced something similar.
In her past life, being young and thrust into the spotlight by the Red Building, her sharpness and edginess were unrestrained, which cost her dearly. Among those costs was the life of her closest sister... who had gotten entangled and died because of her.
Failing to protect a loyal maid and having a friend die because of herself... these complex emotions intertwined, and He Jinxia felt a wave of sorrow spread from her heart. Merely by closing her eyes, the tears flowed uncontrollably like a raging flood.
The next moment, He Jinxia opened her eyes and looked towards the camera.
