Superhumans of the Dome City
Chapter 97 - 97 16 Overtime

97: Chapter 16 Overtime 97: Chapter 16 Overtime The cat-eared maid landlady fumed, “I’m never talking to Alice again!”

Leaning against the door, Shiyu Ling swung the other party’s cellphone with one hand.

“Cut it out, with your high-spirited personality, you’d bore yourself to death if you didn’t speak up.”

“Hmph.”

With her eyes closed, Kardesia pretended to suddenly remember something, “Oh right, didn’t you say you wanted to create a club yesterday?”

The blonde girl snapped her fingers and leaped up from the couch.

“I’ve started such a super fun club—!”

Immediately after, the girl who realized what she had done screamed in annoyance.

“Ahhhh, you tricked me!”

“Oops, there’s a dumb maid here.”

“Guh-wah!”

Miss Shiyu mischievously tossed the cellphone back to the landlady rolling on the couch.

She returned to her room, leaving the cheerful atmosphere behind the door, and began to ponder serious issues.

It had been two weeks, yet officials from the Cangshou District hadn’t come looking for her.

What on earth were the official experts doing?

What Shiyu Ling didn’t know was that the answer to this question was unexpectedly simple.

The official experts were working overtime.

At the combined office building in the Cangshou District, on the 66th floor.

Two freelance Impermanence Law Enforcers were discussing songs and music, a wanted Impermanence Law Enforcer was playing around with a female college student, but the serious Impermanence Law Enforcers didn’t have such leisure and elegance.

Despite the late hour, the gentlemen of the Yiji Hall were still bustling about in the office building.

They all looked weary, downing strong tea and coffee to stay alert.

Working overtime until ten at night was nothing unusual, but since that day, they had been maintaining a much higher intensity of work than usual: post-disaster operations for the Dragon Disaster, preliminary research on the colored glaze crystals, intelligence liaising and negotiations with agencies from various countries, secret investigations into the entire incident, and the thorough examination of a certain suspicion discovered just recently in Liu Zhongwu’s comprehensive inspection…

Even the multifaceted experts from the Empire looked worse for wear after all the trouble.

By comparison, due to additional interference from a certain dual-sword wielder and the deepening mystery behind the incident, Shiyu Ling, who had triggered it all, ended up with a lower priority—everyone was busy, too busy in fact, to give Ming Guest some face.

“Rest for now, we’ll take it easy until we can deal with you, aow.”

The end of a major incident is often the beginning of arduous work.

Students curse the high-and-mighty for neglecting human affairs, while officials envy the children for their carefree ignorance.

The long negotiations following the Colored Glaze Disaster had only just begun, and they couldn’t rely on the Mithril supports for help with such important matters.

Hence, the gentlemen were bustling in the offices again tonight, the crisp sound of keyboards clicking and the rustling of papers being turned, mingled with the occasional low-toned conversation in the meeting room.

It seemed they were set to continue working into the night…

Until Director Liu, seated at the back, gulped down two sips of his tea and placed the large cup on the table, “Let’s call it a day and finish up the tasks at hand then take a rest.

From tomorrow on, we’ll resume the normal shift rotation.

Everyone has worked hard these past few days!”

The members of the Yiji Hall silently sighed with relief in their hearts, but on the surface, they responded respectfully, “Director has worked the hardest!” “Thank you for your hard work, Director Liu!”

Director Liu Zhongwu, with his belly protruding, stood up and gestured to his confidant, “Little Li, how’s the investigation on that matter going?”

The designated officer immediately stood, his long, thin face marked with two prominent dark circles under his eyes.

“Today, we tried a new method.

Follow me, Director…”

The two left the conference room and opened a door on the right side of the corridor.

The room contained a long table, and multiple surveillance footage segments were being played simultaneously on the wall screen: a woman with blue hair dressed in hunter’s gear disappearing and reappearing between skyscrapers, weaving through the bustling streets, and fighting with a gray-haired young man underneath a residential building…

All the footage shared the same protagonist, Alice Adar, the hunter from the Country, also known as Shiyu Ling, who triggered the Colored Glaze Disaster.

These video clips surfaced after Director Liu Zhongwu reviewed the entire set of footage.

The Director only frowned and said, “There’s a problem,” leaving his subordinates with the headache of identifying exactly what that problem was.

People inside the room were gathered around the table, discussing heatedly, but they quickly turned and bowed respectfully as the Director approached.

Director Liu waved his hand and asked, “How’s the situation today?”

One person responded with a pained expression, “Director, today we first tried a new skill based on the divination theory using bone fragments from the remote islands…”

“Ah, forget about the Impermanence Skill!” Liu Zhongwu pointed at the screen as he spoke, “I can only tell that there’s something wrong with these places.

With your half-baked skills, you think you can find the problem on your own?

Have you used any technological methods?”

“We attempted to analyze these segments frame by frame using intelligent AI, but the results haven’t been good so far.

However…”

The analyst hesitated, and just then, Little Li took the opportunity to continue, “We tried using biotechnology for analysis this afternoon and made significant progress compared to before!”

Under Director Liu Zhongwu’s skeptical gaze, everyone awkwardly moved aside to reveal a small animal sitting on the table.

Its fur shiny and limbs equal in length, a slender tail curled up behind it, and its right paw restlessly scratched the hair on its head.

Upon noticing the gaze of the newcomer, it quickly turned its head, revealing alert little eyes and a green monkey face.

“Squeak!”

The Biochemical Monkey waved its paw at the gigantic humans it saw before, which elicited a confrontational response from them, “You’ve gotten a monkey?!”

Little Li gave an embarrassed laugh and replied, “Director, we speculate that this time it’s not just plain invisibility, so we specifically asked the university for this Biochemical Monkey trained for tracking people.

Designed to react to human forms that appear repeatedly, it can quickly aid officers in locating suspicious individuals while searching through surveillance footage.”

As he said this, Little Li quickly patted the monkey’s back, “Little Green, show the Director!”

The monkey scratched its behind and looked over the few surveillance clips under the stern gaze of the portly middle-aged man.

The Biochemical Monkey found it odd.

It had been watching these clips for most of the day and had already pointed out the suspicious human in all of them.

Why did these not-so-clever humans have to make it repeat itself?

“Squeak, squeak, squeak!”

It lifted its paw and pointed at the screen, pausing the playback of each surveillance clip.

Satisfied, the monkey rubbed its paws together, hoping that now the humans would see—how conspicuous the suspicious person on the screen was!

The person was not tall and seemed young but dressed in fancy clothes, appearing in clearly noticeable places: When the blue-haired woman walked on the street, that person blended into the crowd; when she hopped across rooftops, that person followed behind; and when she fought the strange person, that person sat leisurely at the edge of the rooftop, legs dangling, watching the scene!

The human with dark circles under their eyes gave it a piece of dried fruit, and the little monkey grabbed it and began to chew.

It saw the huge human walking ahead with a composed face, carefully observing every single frame, saying, “Where exactly is it?”

“Squeak…”

It wasn’t just this large human; the other humans also seemed completely baffled.

The little monkey thought that they must have gone stupid from staying in this box-like building for too long, otherwise how could they not notice such an obvious person?

It raised its paw, ready to point out the problem to the fools, one by one.

“Squeak?”

But just as it lifted its paw halfway, the little monkey itself became confused.

What was it just about to do?

It remembered wanting to point out the problem to the humans, but…

It seemed to have forgotten what it was supposed to point out.

“Squeak, squeak, squeak!” The Biochemical Monkey frantically scratched its head and ears on the table.

Director Liu combed the little monkey’s fur with his finger.

“Has this monkey always reacted like this?”

Little Li nodded in response, “Yes, Director.

We believe the Biochemical Monkey’s reactions are very valuable.

It sensed the incongruity, but as soon as it tries to point out the suspicious part, it falls into a state of anxiety like now and only recovers after a while.”

Liu Zhongwu stared intently at the surveillance footage.

The suspicious individual was conspicuously displayed on the screen, yet he seemed completely unaware of them.

“Strange, very strange…” he muttered to himself, then sighed and said, “At least we know the suspicious thing is human-shaped.

Animal assistance is a good idea, think of a way to start from its memories, continue the on-site tracing as well, and keep investigating.”

Everyone in the room responded in unison, “Understood!”

Liu Zhongwu walked out of the room, and Little Li quickly followed the leader, asking behind him, “Director, Shiyu Ling hasn’t made any special moves during this period, what do you think…?”

Liu Zhongwu walked with his hands behind his back, smiling, “She’s been pretty well-behaved!”

Director Liu once again considered this problematic figure.

How should Shiyu Ling be dealt with?

For Yiji Hall, it should have been a simple matter.

Capture her, extract everything she knows, and then decide based on the specifics whether to kill or keep her.

But when the origins of this wanted criminal herself were already full of doubts, the situation became different, and when a notorious Impermanence Law Enforcer interrupted halfway through, things got even more complicated.

This was the person the Ming Guest himself said he would protect; who would dare not give face to the Ming Guest?

The crazies do things without any care.

If he became unhappy and caused a stir, who knows what this Cangshou Capital would turn into – it’s a real question.

Official business must be done, and face must be given; being stuck in the middle like this is really difficult.

Fortunately, there were no casualties in the recent Colored Glaze Disaster.

Since there were no major problems in the outcome, Liu Zhongwu didn’t plan to kill this wanted criminal who had been used by several people as a pawn – after a thorough investigation of the tricks in Zero Island, they would still need to rely on Shiyu’s cooperation.

Thus, this matter became much simpler.

Director Liu turned his head and asked, “Besides meeting the Ming Guest, what else did she do today?”

“She also went to a supermarket near her residence, with the main purchases being fast food and beer.”

Liu Zhongwu chuckled to himself.

The little girl has started living a retired life; her psychological quality is really astonishing.

The Director made up his mind, “You go and talk to Shiyu Ling tomorrow morning, two weeks should be enough time for her to ponder.”

Little Li asked softly, “To be incorporated into our subordinates in Cangshou Capital, or…?”

The middle-aged man spoke calmly, “It’s not quite appropriate for a Hunter from the Country to come work at Yiji Hall.

A young person planning to change careers going to an educational institution to make the most of their strengths is very reasonable.”

“Understood.”

“Tomorrow at noon, I’ll have lunch with Ao to discuss.

After you get the result, contact the Seven Luminaries Divine Sect and arrange a meeting for me.”

“Alright, Director.” Little Li quickly made arrangements for the time and then asked doubtfully, “Director, about Zero Island, do we start from now?”

“How can we start now when everyone is waiting to see how things pan out?

Want to hand over the hot potato to the agents of the United States?

But we need to be prepared first, then it will be easier to handle things afterward…”

After making the work arrangements, Liu Zhongwu pondered over those sections of surveillance footage and the monkey’s performance again.

“It’s really strange, could it be a Dragon Species ability?” The middle-aged man sighed, “I’ll ask Ao about it tomorrow.”

Little Li asked, “Director, should we ask Mr.

Yan?”

Liu Zhongwu offered no explanation, merely shook his head.

If that ruffian had an idea, he’d definitely come to strut around, making sarcastic remarks in front of everyone before triumphantly revealing his profound insights.

The fact that Yan Qi had been holed up in his house like a sulky gourd for the past several days meant that he also did not have a clue.

Sky Extreme is also puzzled; what about the Ming Guest?

That oaf’s intuition is always sharp, perhaps he might notice something wrong…

“Check out all the places the Ming Guest has been to these past days too, look for clues.”

After assigning the tasks, the corpulent Director chuckled to himself; he seemed to have thought of something.

“These two loafers!

The ground isn’t enough for them to make a mess of, they’ve run up to the sky to hold an alumni meeting…”

He gave a few more work instructions and then stepped into the elevator, leaving the office building.

There were so many tasks and the mysteries remained, and there was still so much to be done.
