457: Chapter 4 Divine Communication Skill (Part 2) 457: Chapter 4 Divine Communication Skill (Part 2) After finishing everything, he put away his brush and grumbled as he walked out the door, leaving only a curse behind.
“Dead tired, time to eat!”
“Ga!
Ga!
Ga!
Ga!”
Four bio-engineered crows stood on the telephone pole, making unpleasant cries.
Their black feathers blended into the dark night, their pupils flashing an ominous green.
Gongsun Ce casually used telekinesis to whip up a strong wind, scaring away the noisy crows, and shaking loose a flurry of feathers.
The sight worsened the mood of the superpower user.
He walked side by side with Shiyu Lianyi on the mountain path, heading toward the bus stop a hundred meters away.
Next, they planned to find a doctor to get some medicine before figuring out how to survive the night.
“Mr.
Shiyu.”
“What is it?”
“My issue…
please don’t tell everyone,” Gongsun Ce said, rubbing his hair habitually, “Just say it’s a minor complication from my attempt at Divine Communication.”
“Okay,” Shiyu Lianyi nodded.
“Not even Sister Ling?”
“She finally got a chance to be happy away from this mess, let’s not trouble her heart.”
Both of them arrived at the bus stop.
It was just past seven in the evening, but in the sparsely populated Cangshou District, there weren’t many people waiting for the bus.
Aside from a few old people chatting on the seats, there was only a little girl in a dress standing alone in front of the bus stop sign.
The bus arrived, but it wasn’t the one they were waiting for.
The elderly boarded the bus, which departed without producing any smoke as it was a new model.
No one spoke.
Gongsun Ce quietly watched the departing vehicle until it vanished from sight.
“Gongsun, don’t worry,” Shiyu Lianyi said.
“Everyone is here, you won’t be alone.”
“I don’t know how to describe it, friend.
This feeling is weird, very weird.” Gongsun Ce continued staring in the direction the bus had left.
“You know I’ve never been afraid of death or injury.”
Shiyu Lianyi drew a Spiritual Correspondence Rune to ensure their conversation wouldn’t arouse suspicion in passers-by.
“Yes, you’re not afraid.”
“But now I am afraid.” Gongsun Ce’s tone wavered, “It’s intense…
yet elusive…
thinking about some things just leads to anxiety…
not just me, not just me…”
The young man with gray hair paused for a while, then spoke again with a disturbingly eerie calmness.
“When I was little, I forgot how old I was at the time.
One day after school, my parents hadn’t come home yet.
I was bored.
I thought about having some fun.
There was a big tree on the road in front of my house.
It had always been there, and I never thought much about it.
But I was bored that day.
I thought I could try climbing it.
And so I did.”
His way of speaking was strange, pausing after each sentence as though he struggled with each word.
“I was quite athletically gifted.
I managed to climb all the way to the top.
It was just a tree, but I felt like I was on top of the world.
It was fun.
I stood much higher than usual.
I could see something different.
But then I thought…
how am I going to get down?”
“The tree was too tall, and I was afraid to jump.
I started feeling scared.
I hoped someone would come to rescue me quickly.
Either dad or mom would do.
Then, I noticed something strange atop the tree…
a gray, oval thing, like a drop of water…
it looked like a hornet’s nest.”
Gongsun Ce’s lips turned pale, he swallowed hard, his face gradually losing color.
“I was really scared.
Being stung by a hornet is very painful.
But I was afraid to call for help.
I worried that others might get stung while coming to save me…
I was afraid no one would come to rescue me, and I was afraid someone would…
I feared being rebuked by my parents afterwards, and I feared being stung by the hornets…”
“It seemed I couldn’t do anything more, because I’d made a mistake from the start.
I was just very scared…
very scared…
extremely…
terrified.”
He trembled as he raised his hands to cover his ears, looking every bit as helpless and terrified as a young child.
He heard a sound, like the buzzing of hornets getting ready to fly.
Too many hornets were coming.
He had no way out…
nowhere to run…
“Ah, ah—!”
Slap!
Shiyu Lianyi gently patted his friend’s back, stopping the scream that was about to erupt.
He quietly wiped away the mark in his palm.
Gongsun Ce stood in place, absentmindedly touching his own back.
“Sorry, I spaced out just now.
What were we talking about?”
“About the medical expenses,” Shiyu Lianyi smiled.
“You were worried the doctor would overcharge you.”
“That’s a reasonable assumption, alright.
She won’t miss any chance to make a buck…”
Gongsun Ce spoke spiritedly about the character of that particular superpower user; he appeared completely normal, showing no signs of his earlier frenzied state.
Shiyu Lianyi fully understood why Yan Qi’s arrangements had been so urgent.
Gongsun Ce’s symptoms were nowhere near as manageable as he believed.
If they did not cure it quickly…
Suddenly, lights twinkled in the distance, the new bus arrived – the one they had been waiting for.
The little girl couldn’t wait to get on and raced to the front, trying to be the first on board.
The bus door opened, and she joyfully leaped up but didn’t land securely, falling backward.
“Ouch!” the girl screamed.
Gongsun Ce instinctively used telekinesis to lift her back up.
“Be careful, miss.
There are only three people here; no one is competing with you.”
The little girl turned around, her face full of amazement.
She wore a red dress, carried a matching small backpack, and wore a little yellow hat on her head; she was thin, with a lovely face, with a dot of vermillion on her forehead.
Her eyes blinked, making her look exceptionally cute.
