420: Chapter 1 Midnight Snack Rhapsody (Part 1)_2 420: Chapter 1 Midnight Snack Rhapsody (Part 1)_2 “Who still uses paper manuals in this day and age?”

“I like it, what’s it to you?”

“Besides, with such a big event just a few days ago, do you really think well-known stores will be open?

At this hour, it’s good enough if there’s anything to eat at all…”

Just like that, five minutes later.

After asking a local uncle for directions, the two of them arrived at a small eatery in a residential street called “Big Belly Hall”.

Outside the shop was a promotional board filled with a dazzling array of products, from cheap egg sushi to individually ordered fatty tuna sushi, all kinds of meals were available, and the appetizers, rice bowls, and desserts hanging at the bottom of the menu were especially appetizing.

The sushi restaurant, still open late at night, seemed to fit their needs perfectly, except…

“This is conveyor belt sushi, isn’t it?”

Shiyu Ling didn’t seem too excited, which wasn’t surprising.

Conveyor belt sushi meant the sushi was placed on a factory conveyor belt-like system, allowing customers to pick what they wanted themselves.

Weiyuan City’s trendy sushi bars often featured private single booths that valued privacy, and chefs who provided one-on-one service to customers.

Eating high-end sushi in these small booths, one could feel a sense of Zen that blended with the environment, turning dining into a form of enjoyment.

But conveyor belt sushi restaurants had none of these services!

All they had were the chefs busily working on the inside of the conveyor belt and the wooden tables where all the customers sat side by side.

Even the food was marketed for its cost-effectiveness; in other words, this was a thoroughly cheap eatery!

“It’s fine, isn’t it?

We’re not nobility.”

“We rarely get out, so we should at least treat ourselves to something good.”

Gongsun Ce firmly said, “Anyway, let’s eat first!

My stomach is protesting so much, if I don’t eat soon, I’ll turn into a Biochemical Slime Unit 2 right here!”

“You little glutton…”

“Don’t make cold jokes in Imperial Language, okay?

It gives me goosebumps.”

“Alright, alright, the starving are first.”

The Superpower User went in ahead at the sound of a “Welcome!” The door of “Big Belly Hall” was exceptionally wide, enough to let a truck drive straight in, making him wonder just how stuffed the departing customers must have been.

Upon entering, Gongsun Ce was stunned by the decor of the store: U-shaped black marble tables, uniform chairs from Imperial schools, all accompanied by what looked like high-quality velvet cushions; the hastily modified conveyor belt glittered with the light of second-hand neon tubes, and a large character piece that read “Unity of Mind and Body” in forceful, vigorous Imperial script hung on the wall opposite the door.

The shop combined a mishmash of elegance and vulgarity that truly broadened the horizons of a newcomer visitor like him to Weiyuan City.

The sushi chef quickly wiped his hands and said apologetically, “I’m very sorry, the Calamity God incident two days ago led to some changes in the shop!” The owner bowed again and added, “Also, our digital cash register isn’t fixed yet, so we can only accept cash at the moment.

I’m truly sorry.”

The impact of the Dragon Disaster was certainly significant.

That conveyor belt was obviously a rushed modification using whatever usable materials were found, and the odd assortment of furniture was probably made by a Dual Blades customer on a whim.

How strange must these past days have been for the residents of Weiyuan?

It seemed likely that in a few years, these makeshift landscapes of the Creation Realm could become new tourist attractions…

But then again, the fact that they could still operate showed that the situation wasn’t that bad.

With a place to live and basic facilities, people can always survive.

“Oh, it’s no trouble at all!”

Gongsun Ce nodded sympathetically, leading his equally shaken partner to take a seat.

Laid out in front of them were cheap matcha powder, a (clearly makeshift) press-style water dispenser, soy sauce, mustard, and ginger slices.

However, all of these were completely ignored by someone who was ravenous.

The point now was to eat, to consume food!

He quickly grabbed a plate of egg sushi and scallop sushi, shoving them hurriedly into his mouth!

“Stop it right there, you rascal.” Shiyu Ling grabbed his wrist, frowning as she exclaimed, “Never mind the mustard, but you’re not even dipping it in soy sauce?!”

“Uh, Miss Shiyu?

I was going to eat first…”

“This is non-negotiable!”

Curiously, an odd aura burst forth from behind Ling!

Even the kindly-looking owner emitted a similar vibe for a moment!

Gongsun Ce felt the atmosphere was familiar…

Ah, he remembered.

It was just like seeing a low-level Ninja who kept launching sneak attacks without bowing first!

It was just the lack of dipping in soy sauce, so why…!

— Is that so!

This must be the so-called table manners!

Gongsun Ce deeply understood it all.

Dipping sushi in soy sauce was like bowing before a duel, a cultural genetic code etched deep in the souls of the people of Zero Island.

Not doing so would be taken as a practical offense.

This would not do!

“I get it now.”

He had to be patient.

To overcome the hunger in his belly…

to respond to food with perfect etiquette…

and to eat like completing a process.

Submerge the sushi into the soy sauce, barely dipping half…

bring it to the mouth, take a small bite…

“!”

The aroma of rice, the texture of sushi vinegar, the slightly sweet tamago – they all combined to give even the simplest sushi a unique flavor.

The soy sauce added at the end was like the final drizzle of hot oil over boiled pork slices, serving as a perfect finishing touch.

The hungrier one was, the more they wanted to gobble the food, but it was precisely at that moment they could more intricately appreciate the deliciousness of the food.

Starting with appetizers, then onto the main course, desserts, in between sipping an appropriate amount of drinks.

Indeed, only after going through this process in order, could one say they truly dined!
