Superhumans of the Dome City -
Chapter 185 - 185 2 They Are in Class
185: Chapter 2 They Are in Class 185: Chapter 2 They Are in Class March 3rd, 10 a.m., Central United University.
Gongsun Ce sat towards the back of the large classroom, gazing out the window at the Biochemical Pigeon flying by, unable to stifle a yawn as he pondered whether he should return to the dorm at noon for a nap.
Superpower Users were in the middle of class.
Central United University was the city’s most renowned institution, without equal.
This reputation largely stemmed from its affiliation with the Cecil Laboratory, leading many middle and high school students who lacked detailed knowledge to believe it was a den of scientists in lab coats.
Of course, the reality was not such; the domains of the white-coated scientists were well separated from everyday teaching activities.
Most of the faculty members were upright educators with integrity.
They accepted official appointments, left comfortable lives, and came from all over the world to this heavenly university to impart precious knowledge to the youth and occasionally used high-tech weaponry to teach them to respect their teachers.
From the perspective of ordinary people, the university professors were indeed highly respectable.
As for the rumors that “a considerable number of them are in white lab coats,” that “academic institutions are powerful forces of the dark world,” or that “the principal has a Superpower User squad specializing in executing other Users,” these were all baseless and unfounded gossip.
Everyone could see that the teachers were of high caliber and amiable—how could they possibly be related to unrestrained researchers!
The principal was even an advocate for the rights of Superpower Users, who donated a large sum of money in his personal capacity when the Empire was established and later joined the frontlines of the educational effort.
Even now, amidst his busy schedule, he still made time to teach classes to the freshmen…
Just like today.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
I am Onowell Slorock, your principal, as well as the nominal lecturer for the course ‘The Development of World History Under the Influence of the Giant Dragon Phenomenon.’ Due to scheduling, I had my assistant take over last month, and for that, I apologize.
Fortunately, this week I have found time to personally teach, meaning I can once more share with you all face-to-face some thoughts and research findings regarding this course’s content…”
The bald middle-aged teacher speaking confidently at the podium was none other than Onowell Slorock, the principal of Central United University.
His shiny head reflected light so intensely that the young man with gray hair beside him felt it nearly impolite to gaze at the hairless scalp for more than half a second.
“The Development of World History Under the Influence of the Giant Dragon Phenomenon” (simply known as Giant Dragon History) was a popular elective among the university’s freshmen due to the short class duration, minimal homework, and the requirement of only a short essay at the end of the term without formal exams.
In brief: an easy class.
Courses that were easy to earn credits in were always popular, and for another subset of students who were truly interested in learning, courses taught by a well-versed principal held great allure.
Gongsun Ce felt that he and Kardesia belonged to the former category.
Serious learners like the young miss had excused themselves from this course, saying “I’ve already studied it at home,” while Shiyu Lianyi was undoubtedly there just to accompany a certain top-hatted girl.
The bald teacher at the podium continued, “…I believe there is no need to reiterate rules that each of you knows, but as part of my duty I still must repeat once more: unless necessary, please refrain from using your superpowers in class.
Now, let us formally start today’s lesson on the Giant Dragon phenomenon and its associated landforms…”
Gongsun Ce still stared out the window, looking even more despondent than before.
This dismal mood was not due to the content of the class but from the questions that echoed in his ear starting five minutes ago, audible to his ears alone.
“Work is usually so busy, I haven’t attended class with everyone in a long time, and now I’m kind of looking forward to it.”
“This is my first time coming to class this term, I feel a bit guilty.
The teacher won’t call roll during the lesson, will he?”
“Gongsun Ce, do you remember what we covered in this class before?”
The pink-haired girl beside him was undoubtedly the culprit behind Gongsun Ce’s speechless gaze towards the heavens.
After the events of the past few days, Qiluo had become more adept at controlling her ability—or rather, her bodily trait.
She could now hide only her voice and a small part of her movements without hiding her form, meaning to others, Qiluo was attentively listening to the lecture, while to Gongsun Ce, she chirped like a sparrow.
How could he respond to her?
If others saw him occasionally talking to himself, they might think a Superpower User was conversing with an invisible friend.
“…From a few typical examples, we can see the significant impact of the Giant Dragon phenomenon on Earth, such as the Shenzhi River and the three-section cliffs of Zero Island, the Steel Sword Edge of Morton, and of course, the 51 distinct landforms of Ustus and the Grotto Heaven of the Empire.
I hope that by the end of the next three classes, students will have a basic understanding of them…”
As Principal Slorock spoke methodically through his opening remarks, Gongsun Ce finally figured out how to deal with the situation.
He used his powers to form tiny letters on the desk surface.
Qiluo looked down and read:
“The dummy couple didn’t come today; I hope he doesn’t take roll.
Don’t ask me about the content, I didn’t really listen to the previous classes either.”
The look in the idol’s eyes conveyed a sense of camaraderie with a fellow slacker and Gongsun Ce decided to pretend he didn’t understand.
