Superhero Class: Finding Meaning of Life in another world -
Chapter 63: Exposed
Chapter 63: Exposed
Mia’s obsidian eyes settled on him, still and bottomless, like a lake hiding something monstrous beneath the surface.
To some extent, the Great Executioner Mia became the main character of today; everyone present had their eyes on her, each of her actions carefully watched by all the people present. For a moment, a suffocating silence suddenly seemed to have descended on the entire platform.
The Envoy, a middle-aged man, looked at this scene and frowned, his gaze also assessing Dawn, wondering what was so special about the child to even attract her attention.
Not just him, this was the question in everyone’s mind; the leader of the FrostIron family frowned, his face slightly ugly.
The Lionheart family Lord’s expression was indifferent; however, his gaze didn’t leave Dawn’s figure for even a moment.
The Brightmoon family head looked at this scene with a tinge of curiosity in her misty eyes. She was really curious about the young man whom she praised all the time.
Dawn felt the pressure of countless gazes landing on his body, like the weight of the whole world was being pressed on his shoulders, making it difficult for him to even remain standing.
With each passing moment, instead of lessening, the pressure intensified.
Just as it was about to become unbearable, Dawn felt a hand landing on his shoulder followed by a confident voice filled with the charisma of the rising sun.
"Little brother Dawn, are you okay..?"
Under such high pressure that seemed to almost solidify, how could Lucas, who was just some distance away from Dawn, remain unaffected?
Theodore’s expression darkened, shadows flickering in his stormy blue eyes. His feet planted against the floor, the sturdy floor creaking under the pressure.
This woman... This so-called Grand Executioner...
She dared ignore him? Disregard his authority?
To dare eye his son as if he was some sort of a criminal in front of everyone.
The air around him thickened as his mana stirred, but before he could speak, a low chuckle escaped his lips—dry, humorless, laced with barely restrained fury.
"Hahahaha..what is the meaning of this, Great Executioner Mia?"
Theodore’s reaction, considering the situation, was natural and acceptable.
Mia seemed to have completely ignored Theodore’s words as if she hadn’t heard them at all.
Her eyes, glowing with blinding orange light, remained fixated on Dawn’s small figure as if she was trying to see through him.
On the other hand, the Envoy, hearing Theodore’s charged words, coldly snorted but didn’t say anything.
Robert’s expression had turned incredibly ugly.
Just as everyone thought Theodore would be unable to hold any more,
Mia finally turned her gaze away, exhaling softly, as if brushing off an unsettling thought.
Then, in a voice just loud enough to be heard, she murmured:
"Ah... Perhaps I was mistaken. After all, how could the noble son of the Skylar family bear such an unholy stain?"
As soon as her words ended, the atmosphere in the hall suddenly exploded, and loud murmuring echoed in every direction.
After the Night of Thousand Eyes incident, the Abyss mark topic was treated with great severity and caution.
Just suspicion alone was enough to allow Mia to execute Dawn.
"Bearer of the Abyssal mark, such an evil demon could be hidden among us.."
"Shush! Didn’t you hear what the Great Executioner said? She thought Skylar family Lord’s son was the bearer of the Abyssal mark, but he is not.."
Just at this time, Elizabeth came along with her teacher Julie, both of them dressed in flowing white clothes.
Hearing the discussion around her, Elizabeth’s crystal blue eyes flashed with a chilly light.
Without hesitation, she immediately got closer to Dawn. So what if her brother was the bearer of Abyssal mark? Don’t even think about laying your filthy hands on him.
Dawn heard the discussion around him and his heart turned cold.
Without question, he had been exposed; however, he couldn’t understand the meaning behind her actions.
If she had confirmed that he was the bearer of the Abyssal mark, why didn’t she expose him openly?
But one thing was certain: from now onwards, Dawn would forever be treated with suspicion.
"Are you okay, brother?"
Elizabeth immediately hugged Dawn and asked in a worried tone.
Julie SilverRose, on the other hand, remained expressionless; it was difficult to tell what she was really thinking.
Dawn felt a strange feeling rising in his heart when Elizabeth hugged him; all the worries that he felt disappeared like a puff of smoke on a windy day.
He let out a carefree smile and innocently said, "What could happen to me?"
Elizabeth looked at his innocent reaction with a dazed expression and smiled a little forcefully.
Lucas watched this scene with a slightly pained expression, his fist tightly clenched.
In the next moment, he turned his head away to wipe the corner of his eyes, which at some point had turned slightly moist.
"Yeah, nothing could happen to you."
Elizabeth repeated his words with determination in her eyes.
Julie looked at her disciple’s determined expression and couldn’t stop herself from sighing.
Her vacation was almost ruined.
...
After this short but solemn incident, the events followed smoothly, with the Envoy and Great Executioner Mia occupying the seat of honor and watching the events play out with indifferent faces.
One by one, all the family heads came and paid their respect to the Envoy and promised to contribute to the Empire treasury.
The Envoy tapped the armrest of the chair rhythmically and looked at the reports presented by each family.
All the scenes looked harmonious on the surface, but strange tension seemed to fill the atmosphere.
Suddenly, the next moment, the Envoy got up from his seat and started to speak. "Why did the production of Frost Iron fall by half?"
The Envoy had spoken in a plain tone, but his words seemed to be filled with hidden edges that made the expression of everyone stiff.
Especially that of the FrostIron family Lord, whose family had been at the top for a long time but witnessed the lowest production under his leadership.
So he was the person who was under the most pressure.
"T-that, Lord Envoy, a number of mines have mysteriously collapsed, leading to production halting."
Hearing this, the Envoy’s eyes turned incredibly frosty.
Hmph!
