Superhero Class: Finding Meaning of Life in another world -
Chapter 48: Theif?
Chapter 48: Theif?
Dawn had watched the scene from start to finish, right from the moment the young man had taken the initiative to walk towards the recruiter until the appearance of this beautiful woman from the Truth Seeker organization.
In the end, he could only sigh! ’Too impatient.’
Dawn felt the young man was beaten for nothing. After all, among the people present, just how many could awaken a class?
Most of the newcomers were bound to be classless people; the crooked-nose guy from the Flowing Swamp organization just found a convenient opportunity to establish his might.
Such was the fate of weak people—they were always exploited by the strong, no matter what world you were in.
With the woman’s appearance, the faces of the three recruiters turned extremely ugly; it appeared they were either wary of the woman or the Truth Seeker organization.
Dawn’s eyes flashed as he looked at the reaction of all the people present closely, hoping to gain as much information as possible.
From the corner of his eyes, he also glanced at the blonde-haired boy from the Flying Sword Royal Academy.
While Dawn was busy thinking, the beautiful woman from the Truth Seeker organization opened her mouth once again.
"We, the people, like to treat others with fairness. If you cooperate with us well, we will definitely reward you greatly."
Her expression looked slightly practiced and rehearsed, as if she had repeated these same words many times in the past.
No matter how manufactured her words sounded, all the people listened to her silently without making a single noise.
"I will ask you some questions. If you answer them honestly, my Truth Seeker organization will reward you with a single Iron-rank stat crystal."
As soon as these words came out, the silent square once again exploded with hubbub and discussion.
Gasps rippled through the crowd, followed by an eruption of voices.
"A stat crystal?!" one boy nearly choked on his words, gripping his own arms as if expecting them to suddenly grow stronger.
"We can get stronger... just by talking?" Another clenched his fists, his knuckles white. His breath came in short, rapid bursts—like a man who had just realized he might actually survive this hellhole.
A girl beside him bit her lip so hard it bled, her wide eyes locked onto Mrs. Jenkins like a starving beast spotting its first meal in days.
"No way... this can’t be real." Someone trembled, his voice thick with emotion.
The faces of the people from the Flowing Swamp organization turned ugly; some of the members gritted their teeth and sighed.
It became evident with their reaction that the Truth Seeker organization was clearly way stronger than them; otherwise, they would not have taken things so easily.
After saying those words, the lady, whose name was Mrs. Jenkins, issued some instructions. Following her words, the crowd got down from the platform and formed a line.
Dawn and Kane also stood in the queue silently waiting for their turn. Of course, Dawn had no interest in the Iron-rank stat crystal; to him, those crystals were worthless and amounted to nothing more than a bunch of shiny rocks.
The line continued to move forward, and one by one Mrs. Jenkins would ask questions and note down the details in her notebook.
Once she was done asking questions, she would flick out a crystal and hand it to the other party.
After answering questions when the youth were about to walk away, the recruiters would approach them and say something in a solemn voice. First, the newcomers would deny, then after a few words of persuasion, reluctantly join.
And if they refused?
The recruiters didn’t shout, didn’t argue. They just watched, their expressions unreadable as the rejects walked away.
But then... someone always followed.
Silent footsteps. A shadow moving between the crowd. No protests. No second chances.
By the time the next name was called, the reject was already gone.
Dawn’s lips thinned. "So that’s how it is..." He exhaled softly, eyes flicking to the side where a trembling youth hesitated before nodding to a recruiter.
It wasn’t recruitment. It was picking who got to live.
...
Time continued to pass. Although the queue continued to move freely, in a few breaths of time it was Dawn’s turn to answer the questions.
The moment Mrs. Jenkins’ sharp, almond-shaped eyes locked onto him, a chill ran down his spine.
A blue window flashed in front of his vision.
[Chance of Death: 10%]
Dawn’s breath hitched. It wasn’t high... but it wasn’t zero.
His fingers curled slightly. The familiar, instinctive warning deep in his bones told him to be careful—too many variables, too many unseen dangers.
His momentary hesitation must have been noticeable because Mrs. Jenkins’ lips curled in amusement, her gaze lingering a fraction longer than necessary.
Dawn exhaled quietly, forcing himself to relax. He had drawn attention. That was never a good thing.
Unaware of his thoughts, Mrs. Jenkins smiled and asked, "Did you awaken the class?"
Hearing her question, a frown appeared on his face. In the Eternal Battlefield, it was considered rude to ask a person about their class.
However, considering the fact that she was paying an adequate price, Dawn stopped thinking too much and only nodded his head.
Seeing him nod, Mrs. Jenkins’ face immediately brightened.
"Good, good! Now tell me about your skills," she excitedly asked.
This time, however, Dawn didn’t answer and only shook his head while looking at her in exasperation.
’Did she really think he was going to spill everything?’
Mrs. Jenkins looked at his reaction and smiled while moving her hand to take out the crystals from the pouch.
"Wait!" Dawn immediately tried to stop her.
Mrs. Jenkins looked at him in confusion while slightly raising her eyebrows.
"I don’t want this crystal. Can I get something else in return?"
Jenkins looked at the short young man in front of her and felt slightly curious in her heart.
After agreement, Dawn said in an unsure tone, "Can I get a map of this place?"
A map was something that he really needed.
Hearing his genuine request, she fell silent for a moment before speaking, "Of course you can buy the map from our organization, but I’m afraid you can’t afford it."
After saying these words, she threw the crystal in his direction and tried to shoo him away.
"Here, take this crystal and leave."
Dawn grabbed the crystal thrown in his direction and left.
Although he was already expecting such an outcome in his heart, trying didn’t hurt. After all, the beautiful women always helped the protagonist.
"It seems I am not the protagonist," he silently muttered while walking away dejectedly.
Just as he was about to walk some distance away, the crooked man from the Flowing Swamp organization approached him with a slight sneer on his face.
"Hey! You clown-faced thief, stop right there!"
Those words were like the venomous hiss of snake, immediately causing Dawn to halt his steps.
