Chapter 816: Chapter 826: Heart Piercing Gu!
Thick smoke billowed up in the direction of Li Chuwen’s house. Could something have happened?
Tang Zhong did not dare to delay for even a moment and immediately turned back.
Meanwhile, within the Miao Village.
A blaze had been set directly on Li Chuwen’s house.
Raging flames rose skyward, fiercely burning.
Around the scene, a crowd had gathered.
Upon closer inspection, one could see Miao Jingtian and Miao Qing at the center, accompanied by others.
These people had all come from the Seventy-Two Villages of the Southern Border. They had heard that someone had broken into the Miao Village and even attacked Miao Jingtian, so they rushed over immediately.
At the center of the crowd, Li Chuwen stood there, her hair disheveled, looking utterly pitiful.
The elegance she had once exuded was nowhere to be found.
Beside her, her parents furiously scolded her. "Wenwen, you are so unfilial! It’s all because of you that our family has suffered such misfortune. You’re nothing but a jinx!"
"Exactly! If you had married Miao Qing, would any of this be happening today? Huh? Now our family is in trouble, and where is that city boyfriend of yours?" Li Chuwen’s parents snapped angrily.
As soon as Miao Jingtian and his group arrived, they sought to trouble Tang Zhong. However, they could not locate him, so they forcefully interrogated Li Chuwen. When she refused to speak, they set her house ablaze.
At that moment, Miao Qing stepped forward, his entire body wrapped in bandages. After being beaten to a pulp by Tang Zhong earlier, he was now fully bandaged.
He looked at Li Chuwen and smirked, "Wenwen, why put yourself through all this? If you married me, everyone would be happy. But instead, you stubbornly refused. I just don’t get it. You’re a girl from the Southern Border—why do you insist on chasing after some big city dream? What’s so great about those people? Look now, your family’s in dire straits, and where’s that city fellow of yours? I bet he saw how many of us there are and ran off scared, didn’t he?"
Finishing his words, Miao Qing burst into loud laughter.
Miao Qing still felt deeply resentful. After being beaten so badly by Tang Zhong, he swore to pay it back. That’s why he had brought reinforcements, but Tang Zhong was nowhere to be seen.
Li Chuwen was relieved. She was genuinely afraid of Tang Zhong getting embroiled in this mess and provoking unnecessary trouble, as these people were Gu Masters. They didn’t kill with knives or guns—they used the Gu Art. There was no way Tang Zhong could be a match for them. Now that Tang Zhong had left, there was no cause for concern.
As for whether she married or not, that was her own decision. Today, even if it meant death, she would never marry Miao Qing, no matter how many people tried to force her!
"I will not!" Li Chuwen declared outright.
Miao Qing’s smug expression instantly darkened.
Beside Miao Jingtian stood the chiefs from the Seventy-Two Villages. When they saw Li Chuwen still daring to defy them, one of the chiefs turned to Miao Jingtian and said, "Miao Village Head, is this woman from your village?"
"Yes, excuse us for the disgrace!" Miao Jingtian replied with a forced smile.
"What kind of woman still dreams of marrying into the outside world? Isn’t the Miao Village such a wonderful place? Why would we tolerate such a disgraceful woman? If it were in our village, we’d sentence women like her to death!" another chief remarked coldly.
"It’s the same rule in our village!" Miao Jingtian added sternly, his gaze turning icy as he looked at Li Chuwen.
He then stepped forward, standing beside Li Chuwen. His face carried a chilling expression as he called her name, "Li Chuwen!"
Li Chuwen turned to meet his gaze.
"Let me ask you: where is that man?"
"Which man?" Li Chuwen feigned ignorance.
"Don’t play dumb with me! I’m talking about your boyfriend from the city. Where is he now?" Miao Jingtian demanded sharply, his voice seething with the humiliation of being beaten by Tang Zhong. "I must have my revenge!"
"Why didn’t you say anything when he was still here just now?" Li Chuwen retorted, glaring at Miao Jingtian.
Miao Jingtian, caught off guard, flushed with anger. The beating he had taken from Tang Zhong was an unforgettable humiliation. "Shut your mouth!"
"Oh, so now that he’s gone, you finally have the guts to bully someone?" Li Chuwen snapped, completely undaunted.
Her parents’ faces turned even darker. Her father barked, "Wretched child, how dare you talk like that? You’ve clearly been bewitched by that outsider!"
"Dad, Mom," Li Chuwen said, her tone growing colder. "I’m your daughter, so why are you siding with others against me?"
"I have no daughter as disgraceful as you!" her father scoffed bitterly.
Hearing this, Li Chuwen felt a profound chill in her heart. She had never imagined her parents would turn their backs on her like this.
Miao Jingtian stared her down and said, "This is your last chance. Tell me where that man is, or I’ll plant a Gu in you!"
"Do it, then!" Li Chuwen challenged, her voice unwavering.
She genuinely did not know where Tang Zhong had gone.
"You’re courting death..." Miao Jingtian growled through gritted teeth.
The other chiefs, watching events unfold, sneered, "Brother Miao, how could your village raise such a shameless woman? What are you waiting for? Plant the Heart Piercing Gu on her! Women like this should just die. The men in the village are so outstanding, yet she turns her nose up at them and chases after outsiders. Completely disgraceful!"
"Exactly!"
"Death to her!"
"So be it, as you all say," Miao Jingtian declared.
Resigned to her fate, Li Chuwen turned to the chiefs and, clenching her fists, began shouting: "What do you know about disgrace? What do you know?"
"I’ll marry whoever I want—none of you can control me! I simply don’t like the men in this village, so what?"
"Who I love is my choice!"
"You bunch of backward fools! Who gave you the right to meddle in someone else’s personal life?"
Li Chuwen hated this village. Everyone here was so antiquated—they only cared about their traditions, even in an age of free love. But here, everything still hinged on "parental orders." Li Chuwen loathed it.
Miao Jingtian’s fury erupted at her words. "You wretch! How dare you speak so disrespectfully to the chiefs? You’re asking for death. Men! Grab her! I’ll plant the Gu in her right now!"
At his order, several burly men rushed forward and seized Li Chuwen.
Although she struggled, she was no match for their strength and was quickly subdued.
"You’re all despicable!" Li Chuwen continued to shout defiantly. "I will never marry anyone from this village, no matter what you do! You backwards fools!"
"And what do you think we’ll do to you?" Miao Jingtian sneered, taking a small box from his robe.
"I’ll let you experience the power of the Heart Piercing Gu!"
Opening the box, Miao Jingtian revealed a tiny insect that immediately flew out.
It was a Gu insect, used specifically for casting the Heart Piercing Gu.
With a quick hand gesture, Miao Jingtian directed the insect straight toward the center of Li Chuwen’s forehead.
The Heart Piercing Gu worked through this tiny creature, aptly named the Heart Piercing Bug.
Li Chuwen showed no fear. The insect burrowed into her head.
"I’ve planted the Heart Piercing Gu inside you. Soon, your heart will be drilled with countless holes by the insect. Let’s see if you’ll still dare to insult us or the village. Disgraceful woman with no sense of decency!"
Having released her, the burly men stepped aside as Li Chuwen collapsed to the ground. She could feel the insect writhing within her body, causing waves of excruciating pain.
Her mother’s face carried a trace of concern, but her father coldly rebuked her, "Leave her be. We no longer have a daughter like her. I warned her long ago—Miao Qing comes from a strong lineage, far superior to that city boy!"
Even her mother could do nothing but accept this grim reality.
Now writhing on the ground, Li Chuwen screamed in agony. Cold sweat drenched her forehead, her nails clawing at the earth as her body convulsed uncontrollably.
All around her, the crowd sneered and hurled insults: "Shameless woman, how dare she disgrace the Miao Village!"
"Such a traitor deserves punishment!"
"Executing her is absolutely right!"
Even Miao Qing chimed in with dismissive scorn: "Serves her right."
In her pain, Li Chuwen felt a profound despair, as if the entire world had turned against her. Yet, perhaps this wasn’t all bad—being born in the Miao Village was the greatest misfortune of her life. If there were a next life, she swore she would never return here.
She suddenly thought of Tang Zhong. He must have gone far away by now, never to return.
But just as her vision began to blur, she saw a figure slowly approaching from the distance. That silhouette—it looked so much like Tang Zhong!
