Chapter 999: Just to Fix a Truth
Chapter 999: Chapter 999: Just to Fix a Truth
"Creating a doppelgänger and then replacing oneself with it."
For Su Chengyu, the Immortal from Kunwu’s move was infuriating beyond measure.
Yet Su Chengyu hadn’t entirely lost his reason; he knew all too well the immense cost of using mana to directly summon the Wasteland Sky Halberd.
Therefore, even when facing the Chaos Demon Ape, Su Chengyu had not forcibly summoned the Wasteland Sky Halberd.
But times had changed; Su Chengyu was well aware that the man in black wasn’t making empty threats.
The doppelgänger created from himself on the sixth level was identical to him, to say nothing of the fact that its strength had been enhanced by a realm thanks to the Ascending Heaven Tower.
The only way Su Chengyu could hope to defeat his opponent was with something he possessed that the other did not.
The Heaven-Mending Stone, the Wasteland Sky Halberd.
Of course, the judgment of the man in black was not wrong; as he measured himself, the present Su Chengyu wasn’t strong enough to defeat his opponent within the short time the Heaven-Mending Stone was suppressing him.
However, Su Chengyu had said it before,
"You are not me."
Su Chengyu’s figure suddenly split into nine in mid-air, with all nine indistinguishable Su Chengyus simultaneously raising the Wasteland Sky Halberd and thrusting it directly at the man in black before them.
Faced with this move he had never known, the man in black was caught completely off-guard and was pierced through by the nine halberds!
"How is this possible?!"
The man in black’s eyes widened, staring at the technique in Su Chengyu’s hands that he had no knowledge of, unable to believe what had happened.
Su Chengyu looked coldly at the man who was exactly like him and said, "Perhaps you are indeed identical to me on the sixth level, but the present me has already ascended to the tenth level."
"Is this what you gained in these three levels?"
The man in black asked in surprise.
"You don’t need to know anymore."
The instant Su Chengyu’s words fell, the nine doppelgängers merged back into the original body, and the Wasteland Sky Halberd that had entered the body of the man in black erupted with a murderous aura, blasting the opponent’s body into fragments.
Is it over?
Su Chengyu gazed into the still pitch-black surroundings, not completely letting down his guard.
Though the opponent’s life force had ceased, Su Chengyu couldn’t help but worry about whether the Immortal from Kunwu had any other contingencies.
After all, having pulled off a stunt like replacement, Su Chengyu no longer held any trust for the Immortal from Kunwu.
The next second, an old man with white beard appeared before Su Chengyu, smiling and saying, "Rest assured, this was the final test. Now that you’ve passed, I will naturally honor the promise I made before."
The old man’s visage was aged, yet showed no sign of decline, his white hair and beard giving off an aura of inscrutable mystery.
"How am I supposed to trust you now?"
The old man gave a bitter smile, apparently realizing that making Su Chengyu lower his guard was impossible.
After all, along the way, Su Chengyu had indeed been constantly calculated against.
"What can you do if I decide to take action now?"
"You..."
"The backlash from the Wasteland Sky Halberd has already entered your meridians; at this moment, you can’t summon even a trace of spiritual energy. If not for the Heaven-Mending Stone keeping you breathing, you wouldn’t even be able to speak to me, would you?"
The old man seemed to see right through Su Chengyu, his insights grasping everything; this made Su Chengyu feel extremely uncomfortable!
Su Chengyu remained silent, thinking he had concealed everything extraordinarily well, only to find that to the other, his concealment was clear as day.
Seeing that Su Chengyu fell silent, Kunwu gave a broad wave of his hand, and the next second, the last vestige of tension that had gripped Su Chengyu’s nerves was completely released, and his consciousness began to dissipate.
"Have a sleep first, once you wake up, I will tell you everything..."
The voice faded from his ears, and Su Chengyu’s consciousness vanished entirely, plunging into a deep coma.
Otherwordly Chessboard
Kunwu the Immortal, carrying the comatose Su Chengyu, arrived at the side of the chessboard and gently laid him down while the observing Yuxuan Zhenren sighed.
"Kunwu, why must you do this? What should have been a good fate is now twisted into this," he lamented.
Kunwu shook his head, "I indeed favor him, but at the same time, I do not. With countless major and minor worlds beyond the count of three thousand, those possessing the stature of Great Emperors are not few. But how many can truly reach the end?"
Yuxuan Zhenren spoke with a sense of helplessness, "Even so, you shouldn’t have broken the rules of Ascending Heaven Tower, twice intervening in his trials; how much longer can you exist?"
Both were mere Divine Senses, and although the Immortal’s Divine Sense enjoyed the generosity of Spiritual Energy from the Kunwu Realm within Ascending Heaven Tower, after the brilliance of a thousand years, it was close to burning out. Now, with two interventions, Kunwu’s Divine Sense flickered like a candle in the wind, on the verge of collapse.
"Even so, I have no regrets," he asserted.
Kunwu turned with a faint smile to glance at the still comatose Su Chengyu, "Whether he can reach this place or not, this time is my final gamble."
"What exactly do you see in him?"
"During the Great Catastrophe of Heaven and Earth, there are those destined to face it, and those meant to shatter it."
"Is he one of them?"
"I believe he is."
Having said that, Kunwu suddenly sensed something and changed the subject.
"Yuxuan, please look after this youngster for me while I go meet the other ascender."
Yuxuan Zhenren seemed surprised, "Another has reached the tenth floor?"
Passing through the tenth floor was the rule to meet Kunwu within Ascending Heaven Tower.
Of course, whether one could walk out with those memories intact was another matter altogether.
Long Xuan had his memories of the event taken back by Kunwu, but Kunwu had retained a portion of Su Zhedian’s, which explained why he might know where Su Zhedian had gone.
"It’s been many years since two people reached the top floor during one opening of the tower," Kunwu mused with a smile after sensing the ascension of others, "This time, there might be more than two."
"Does the other girl have a chance too?"
"No, she has already failed."
"Then who are you referring to?"
"The mysteries of heaven cannot be revealed."
Leaving those words behind, Kunwu’s figure disappeared once more from Yuxuan’s presence, leaving Yuxuan blowing his beard and staring in anger but utterly helpless.
Although he, like Kunwu, was within Ascending Heaven Tower as a strand of Divine Sense, he was not the master of the tower.
Kunwu could use his Divine Skills to freely observe the ascenders, but Yuxuan Zhenren could not do this.
Aside from controlling the tower, Yuxuan’s abilities were not much different from those of Kunwu the Immortal; otherwise, Kunwu would not have left Su Chengyu, now hanging by a thread, in Yuxuan Zhenren’s care.
Turning to the comatose Su Chengyu and taking a cursory feel of his condition, Yuxuan Zhenren immediately shook his head.
"No wonder Kunwu thinks you’re not up to the task, junior. Treating your body with such neglect, this is hardly the conduct of one seeking the truth of immortality."
"My grandfather once said, ’We Cultivators do not seek longevity, but to cultivate a truth.’"
