Chapter 994: What the Dao Expects

Chapter 994: Chapter 994: What the Dao Expects

"Selfless, without truth, without emptiness, without thought. Rated B."

The sound of passing the test rang in his ears, but this time Su Chengyu did not immediately awaken.

As Su Chengyu truly entered the Realm of Selflessness, his thoughts seemed to be fixed on a single line.

On one end of the line was Su Chengyu, and what was on the other end, he himself did not know.

The only thing Su Chengyu could do was to keep moving forward on this unbranched path.

"This fellow actually entered the Realm of Selflessness?"

The Heaven-Mending Stone spoke with astonishment, equally surprised that Su Chengyu could truly enter this marvelous state.

The Realm of Selflessness is an extremely mysterious state.

Within this state, a cultivator is able to discard everything, completely empty themselves, solely to cultivate truth.

For any cultivator, it might be impossible to enter this state even once in their lifetime.

Even for immortals, without the right method, it is easy to completely lose oneself in the pursuit of the Realm of Selflessness.

At best, their Dao Heart would be damaged; at worst, they would never awaken again.

Once entering the Realm of Selflessness, the benefits are immense.

Under this mystical state, nature’s spiritual energy would autonomously converge into the cultivator’s body, and during this process, the cultivator’s Dao Heart would be constantly tempered, and the Mind State would become increasingly closer to Perfection.

Tempering the Dao Heart is a chance encounter not to be sought after, and it is often the biggest problem for many Earth Immortals at the time of their ascension.

The Heaven-Mending Stone did not forcibly awaken Su Chengyu, knowing full well that the longer he stayed in this wondrous state, the more Su Chengyu would gain.

For Su Chengyu, who already had issues with his Mind State, his current situation was nothing short of a timely assistance amidst a snowstorm.

After an indeterminable amount of time had passed, Su Chengyu finally woke up.

"Little Shi, how long has it been?"

"I don’t know."

"You don’t know?"

"The time laws within this tower have been adjusted. By the time you leave, it may be ten years have passed in the outside world, or it might have just been a moment."

He then inquired Little Shi about the rating for this test and was somewhat surprised.

"There’s actually a B rating?"

"What’s actually? One of the three realms, the Realm of Selflessness, few immortals would dare claim they can enter at will. If you ask me, not to mention B, even A is too low!"

Su Cheng shook his head in silence, without speaking.

Only after this experience did he truly understand what the Ascending Heaven Tower was sharpening.

The Taoist’s three calamities, nine difficulties, and ten tribulations mainly temper the mind among the nine difficulties.

Aside from the first difficulty, where the vital energy sinks into the Dantian and fuses, the remaining eight are all about emotional entanglements.

Although Su Chengyu got through the third difficulty by leveraging the Realm of Selflessness, it was not a direct confrontation with the tribulation.

After all, for Su Chengyu to let go, even momentarily, he couldn’t do it.

This journey to ascend the heavens is more difficult than he thought.

He also didn’t know how far Lin An and the others had gotten, or whether the content of their trials was the same as his own.

After collecting his thoughts, Su Chengyu then stepped onto the staircase leading to the next level.

With the experience from the third floor in mind, he now understood that these nine difficulties were the content of each level’s trials.

And despite the slight increase in strength after settling down from the Realm of Selflessness,

Su Chengyu could clearly feel that his Mind State was increasingly approaching Perfection.

Now he could control his emotions better, and he was less likely to be disturbed by external things.

In the fourth layer, Su Chengyu found himself directly in the midst of the Su family of the Ancient Clan.

Under the guidance of an elder, he arrived at the Library where his grandfather Su Linyuan had once stayed.

Although Su Chengyu constantly reminded himself that this was an illusion, he was nearly tempted to take the ancient books left by Su Linyuan in the Library for himself.

The fourth trial: to remain indifferent to fame and wealth, to let go of greedy thoughts.

After passing through, Su Chengyu felt a lingering fear, even though he had predicted the temptation of valuable treasures and had come prepared.

But, being truly in the Library, faced with the incredibly realistic images, Su Chengyu still nearly succumbed.

This served as another warning to Su Chengyu that, even with knowledge of the trial’s content, he must still proceed with great caution.

In the fifth layer, Su Chengyu found himself on a pleasure boat, surrounded by countless beautiful young ladies attending to him.

The well-prepared Su Chengyu was not swayed at all and with a shake of his arm, he scattered these women away.

"These women think they can tempt me? They really underestimate me."

The fifth trial: to rid oneself of lust and debauchery, to have a mind clear as a still pond.

Before ascending the tower, Su Chengyu had some apprehensions, but when he actually went through it, he found this to be the place that shook him the least.

However, it wasn’t long before Su Chengyu realized why; dual cultivation is, after all, part of the Heavenly Dao.

If mutual affection is joyous and consensual, how could it be considered licentious? Thus, only those women unrelated to him could be used to tempt him.

"What if it were me?"

As if seeing through the thoughts within Su Chengyu’s heart, a familiar face suddenly appeared before him.

"Fang Qing?"

Fang Qing slowly walked in, her slender arms beginning to undo her own clothing.

Su Chengyu frowned and sternly said, "A mere illusion also wants to disturb my Dao Heart."

Fang Qing’s movements suddenly froze, then she looked at Su Chengyu, "Yes, I am indeed just an illusion. But if I were real, would you make a move on me?"

Su Chengyu’s heart remained unmoved.

Fang Qing smiled and said, "Su Chengyu, can you really say that you’ve never been moved by me? Don’t you wish to possess me? I know you wouldn’t lay a hand on me out of respect for my sister. But it’s different here, Chengyu."

Su Chengyu’s brow furrowed.

"I am just an illusion, a mere shadow within this space. Here, we can indulge in pleasure without any burden."

Seeing that Su Chengyu seemed to waver, Fang Qing stood up again and approached Su Chengyu, continuing to undo her clothing as she spoke.

"Don’t you want to know what it feels like, to be with your little aunt?"

Break!

The Dragon Slayer Sword flew out, piercing through the "Fang Qing" figure’s forehead.

As he watched the dissipating illusion turn into a wisp of blue smoke in the air, Su Chengyu coldly said, "The real Fang Qing would never utter such words."

His heart held affection and guilt towards Fang Qing, but it was directed at the real Fang Qing, not this illusion shaking his Dao Heart!

"Let it end. Such tricks cannot sway me."

"With utmost sincerity and true nature, such is what the Dao seeks. Rating: A."

Having swiftly passed through both the fourth and fifth layers, Su Chengyu’s already advancing steps grew more resolute.

Su Chengyu’s Mind State has always been his greatest issue.

The disappearance of Su Xiaoxiao, the abduction of Xu Nanzhi, these events left indelible marks on his Dao Heart.

Despite barely surviving multiple tribulations with the help of treasures, the unresolved issues in his Dao Heart were always a latent danger; a crisis waiting to erupt could lead to both physical death and the annihilation of his Dao.

For others, the Ascending Heaven Tower was an introspective trial, but for Su Chengyu, it was a perilous passageway between life and death.
