Chapter 874: Chapter 874: Gumu City
"You’re right, it is the True Way of Controlling Thunder, so what about it?" Su Chengyu glanced at Tang Jian as he spoke.
"The True Way of Controlling Thunder is a Thunder technique of the Quanzhen Sect, not to be passed on outside the sect. You are not a disciple of the Quanzhen Sect, how did you manage to steal this technique?" Tang Jian accused.
"Steal?"
Shaking his head, Su Chengyu retorted, "What makes you think the True Way of Controlling Thunder is a Thunder technique of the Quanzhen Sect? Which ancestor of the Quanzhen Sect created it? Tell me if you know!"
"This..."
Tang Jian truly didn’t know which ancestor had created the True Way of Controlling Thunder and hesitated before replying, "Naturally, it was the founder of the sect."
"Nonsense! If I remember correctly, Wang Chongyang, the founder of the Quanzhen Sect, created the Heavenly Qi-breaking Big Dipper Sword Array and the Big Dipper technique, but no one ever said he created the True Way of Controlling Thunder. Are you really a disciple of the Quanzhen Sect? You don’t even know the history of your own sect, yet you dare to claim Wang Chongyang created the True Way of Controlling Thunder. It’s completely nonsensical and tantamount to deceiving your master and destroying your ancestors," Su Chengyu chided.
Through Master Cangqing, Su Chengyu had learned of the secret history between the Quanzhen Sect and the Su Clan. These matters were highly confidential, and few disciples of the Quanzhen Sect were aware of them. As Su Chengyu spoke thus, he left Tang Jian speechless and unable to retort.
"You... you’re the one talking nonsense! The True Way of Controlling Thunder is a secret technique of my Quanzhen Sect, known to all. Speak, how did you steal it? Otherwise, I definitely cannot let you go today. According to the rules of the Quanzhen Sect, disciples who steal learning have their cultivation abolished and are expelled, outsiders who steal will be put to death without exception," Tang Jian argued, pointing his sword angrily and feeling both annoyed and insulted.
"Is something that’s universally ’known’ necessarily the truth? How laughable! If you can’t figure it out on your own, go back and ask your masters and seniors. Once you’ve got it straight, then you can come and accuse me. Right now, you’re in no position to do so," Su Chengyu said.
Having said this, Su Chengyu walked toward the Teleportation Circle.
"Where do you think you’re going!"
Not willing to let Su Chengyu slip away, Tang Jian flicked his Flying Sword and three streaks of Sword Qi shot towards him.
Tang Jian was also a master of the Tongxuan Realm. However, his Realm was higher than that of Su Chengyu, already cultivating to the Seventh Layer of Tongxuan Realm.
Su Chengyu immediately recognized that this was a move from the Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique.
The Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique, part of the Grand Supreme Taoist Scripture’s formidable techniques, also boasted great might. However, the Quanzhen Sect only possessed the first eight moves in their volume. The real power was in the latter eight moves, making a total of sixteen moves together.
The first eight moves focused mainly on Sword Intent and were not that powerful. Su Chengyu had mastered them long ago, rarely displaying them since their might was significantly less than Qingcheng Sect’s Thirty-Six Heavenly Gang Sword Technique. The latter eight moves of the Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique could only be cultivated by those above the Golden Core Realm.
Turning around, Su Chengyu responded with the sixth move of the Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique, Neither Soft nor Hard, countering Tang Jian’s move. Though his Realm was inferior, the Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique itself comprised a set of techniques that mutually generated and overcame one another, allowing Su Chengyu to neutralize Tang Jian’s attack.
"The Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique, Neither Soft nor Hard! Who exactly are you? What other supreme techniques of the Quanzhen Sect have you stolen?"
Tang Jian was even more surprised. Although not as secretive and top-tier as the True Way of Controlling Thunder, the Supreme Dongxu Sword Technique was an inner-sect technique not to be passed on to outsiders, and Tang Jian was taken aback.
Not bothering with Tang Jian’s questioning, Su Chengyu waved his hand, activating the Teleportation Array, unwilling to entangle further with Tang Jian.
"Stop right there, don’t move! I won’t let you leave until you explain yourself!"
Tang Jian hesitated for a moment, and Su Chengyu had already activated the Teleportation Array. Once activated, the Array couldn’t be forcefully disrupted by external forces. Tang Jian could only unleash his strongest sword attack towards Su Chengyu in the middle of the Array.
Su Chengyu remained composed as he watched Tang Jian’s attack coming. Without any attempt to dodge, the light of the Array flashed, and his figure disappeared from within—it had already sent him away. Tang Jian’s sword strike missed its target and returned without success.
"Dammit!"
Tang Jian’s face turned iron blue with anger, as he had no idea to which district Su Chengyu had teleported, making it impossible to immediately track him.
"This matter is of great significance, I must quickly find the other senior brothers, report this matter, investigate thoroughly, and kill this person to prevent the leak of our sect’s heritage."
Any leak of a sect’s secret techniques was a matter of great importance, necessitating a cleansing of the ranks to root out the problem completely.
With a flash of light, Su Chengyu appeared within the teleportation circle of Western District Gumu City.
Gumu was a small nation in the western regions of Xia Country’s history, which, after a major war thousands of years ago, vanished below the yellow sands along with many other ancient countries of the western regions, disappearing from the river of history.
When the Kunwu Immortal created the Kunwu Realm, the western district was modeled on the scenery of these ancient western countries, and the place where the teleportation circle was situated was named Gumu City.
There was a legend that the Kunwu Immortal was actually a prince of the Gumu nation from the western regions, who, with exceptional innate talent, attained immortality in Kunwu Mountain and hence was honored with that title; his true identity was that of a prince of Gumu.
However, he was devoted to cultivation, with no interest in the throne, and after his ascension to The Immortal World, the Lower Realm was engulfed by a war of Gods and Demons, and the ancient countries of the western regions vanished, his homeland of Gumu being completely buried in the endless sands.
In the Kunwu Realm, Gumu City had no appearance of a city, with only remnants of walls protruding through the sands as evidence of its existence, and the ancient city’s architecture long buried beneath them. Only next to the teleportation circle stood a towering stele inscribed with two ancient western region characters, precisely "Gumu."
The stele too had endured the ravages of time, eroded by wind and sand, mottled and ancient.
"Su Chengyu!" Lin An shouted loudly.
Turning at the sound, Su Chengyu saw two men making a move against Lin An. Fortunately, Lin An was protected by the Heaven Heart Lamp, or else she might have been killed by these two before Su Chengyu had even arrived through the portal.
Su Chengyu leapt into action and took a quick look at the assailants, who didn’t hesitate to join forces and launch an attack on him.
Both were at the Martial Saint Realm, but they were only at the beginning phase; Su Chengyu found it easy to handle them. Borrowing a bit of power from the Heaven-Mending Stone, he released his sword momentum, injuring both men.
Without any intent to kill, Su Chengyu let the two men flee once they were defeated; chasing after them seemed unnecessary.
"Let’s go."
Su Chengyu retracted the Heaven Heart Lamp and walked with Lin An out of the city. Gumu City was not very big, surrounded by sands and ruins of ancient walls, with some people practicing amongst the decrepit remnants.
"Where is Snake Spirit Desert located?" Su Chengyu asked.
"To the northwest of Gumu City."
After determining the direction, Lin An raised her hand and pointed.
"Then let’s head straight for Snake Spirit Desert. Once we’re near the desert, we’ll figure out a way to gather the Snake Spirit Herb."
Taking Lin An with him, Su Chengyu flew out of Gumu City on a cloud, heading towards Snake Spirit Desert.
The entire western district was filled with deserts and Gobi, inhabited by various different races and Beasts. The Snake Tribe was a powerful entity in the western district, dominating the vast Snake Spirit Desert, a region other groups generally dared not enter.
