Chapter 845 Questioning the Rules

Chapter 845: Chapter 845 Questioning the Rules

Su Chengyu had stayed on the island for a full five days, consuming all the Heavenly Pills he had scored from Yu Jun, until he finally advanced to the Fourth Layer of Tongxuan Realm.

However, the effects of the Heavenly Pills had become negligible, and they would likely be of no use for further advancement in realm. Since entering the Kunwu Realm, he had risen two realms in succession, and he was quite satisfied with this rate of cultivation.

Su Chengyu opened his eyes, and the Dragon Slayer Sword beside him was gleaming with a brighter azure light, its aura undergoing a revolutionary change. Delighted, he immediately communicated with the Sword Spirit of the Dragon Slayer Sword, and indeed, the Dragon Slayer Sword had been restored to the status of a Divine Artifact.

A Divine Artifact and a Spiritual Artifact, only a word apart, yet the difference in power was like that between the heavens and the mire.

Clutching the Dragon Slayer Sword, Su Chengyu soared into the sky and, facing the sea, casually slashed out. The seawater immediately parted, raising waves more than twenty meters high on either side.

"The might of an Artifact is indeed extraordinary," he remarked.

The slash he had just made was without channeling mana, relying solely on the power inherent in the Dragon Slayer Sword. Now armed with a Divine Artifact, Su Chengyu was confident that even without God’s Charms, he could easily slay a Half-Step Martial Saint.

Below the level of Martial Saint, he had no equals.

After the trial in Kunwu Realm ended, he was definitely going back to the Eastern region; Xiang Yuesheng’s Black Dragon Commerce Association had to be completely eradicated.

As Su Chengyu caressed the Dragon Slayer Sword, brimming with aggressiveness, he couldn’t help but recall his grandfather, Su Linyuan.

"Dragon Slayer, now that you have regained your status as a Divine Artifact, do you have any memories about my grandfather awakening?" Su Chengyu asked expectantly.

The Soul of the Dragon Slayer Sword replied, "No, my memories seem to be sealed."

Su Chengyu was disappointed once more. He sighed, and without returning to the island, he immediately flew off on his sword to explore other islands in search of the ingredients needed to concoct the Dragon Spirit Pill.

It wasn’t long before Su Chengyu flew and saw, from a distance, dark clouds densely covering the sky, shrouding the entire sea surface in darkness. The sea was fraught with towering waves, creating whirlwinds. These whirlwinds, carrying the Heavenly Qi-breaking winds, were extremely powerful; even those in Golden Core Realm would not dare to rashly venture into it, much less Su Chengyu.

He maintained his distance from this chaotic region. The hurricane gradually moved, stirring up monstrous waves wherever it passed. Su Chengyu, even a few kilometers away, felt terror in his heartbeat.

Su Chengyu witnessed with his own eyes how the chaotic whirlwind struck an island, and it was as if the apocalypse had descended, with Beasts frantically fleeing the area. As for those Beasts and wild animals that could not fly, they inevitably died in the ferocious whirlwind.

When the whirlwind had passed, the island was completely destroyed. Su Chengyu could finally confirm the true destructive power of a hurricane.

What happened next was miraculous. The island that had been demolished magically reappeared. Su Chengyu rubbed his eyes, thinking he was seeing things.

The Heaven-Mending Stone then explained, "There’s no need for surprise. This is a rule left by the person who created the Kunwu Realm. Islands will be reborn after they’re destroyed. Otherwise, with so many trials over the years, coupled with the harsh conditions of this marine area, the islands would have been destroyed long ago."

"Islands can be reborn, but what about the lives on them?" Su Chengyu asked.

"Life and death are the rules of heaven and earth. Unless it’s an illusion, once a true life dies, even the Immortal Emperor cannot reverse life and death," explained the Heaven-Mending Stone.

"Even the Immortal Emperor, who has grasped the Dao of Hongmeng, cannot reverse life and death?" Su Chengyu said, astonished.

When Lin Chuxue had died, he had managed to revive her. In Su Chengyu’s eyes, resurrection should not be something difficult, especially for Immortals, as it should be as simple as a thought between life and death.

"I’m talking about real death, complete dissolution into the cosmos, with soul scattered and Primordial Spirit destroyed. When your realm is higher, you will understand," the Heaven-Mending Stone said without further elaboration.

"Then what about the flowers, plants, and trees on this path? Aren’t they life forms as well?"

Su Chengyu pointed at the island ahead, one that was teeming with lowly human beings and a forest of trees, and questioned.

"Strictly speaking, flowers, plants, and trees are not considered true forms of life since they lack souls and don’t fall within the natural rules of life and death. However, if the flora has cultivated to become sentient, that’s a different story. Can ants and mayflies be equated to humans?" Heaven-Mending Stone said.

Su Chengyu frowned, feeling that there was something unsatisfactory about Heaven-Mending Stone’s explanation, as if there were loopholes, yet he couldn’t figure out how to refute it.

Maybe the loopholes weren’t in Heaven-Mending Stone’s explanation but in the rules of the universe themselves.

Su Chengyu was completely unaware that he had begun to question the rules of the universe.

It should be known that the rules of the universe are the Heavenly Dao, an existence of the highest order. Invisible and intangible, yet undeniably real, cultivators strive against the heaven, but what they defy are not the true natural rules.

Life and death are the rules of the universe, and so is time, the most primal and fundamental law of the Dao.

Within this universe, no person can reverse the rules of the universe, nor can anyone question them.

The more Su Chengyu thought about it, the more profound it seemed, and the more he pondered, the more he felt trapped, unable to extricate himself, his head throbbing with pain to the point that his Domain of Consciousness became chaotic.

"What are you thinking about? There’s somebody fighting ahead."

The bell-like voice of Heaven-Mending Stone jolted Su Chengyu from his chaotic thoughts, and he suddenly felt a chill, realizing he had almost been sucked into a vast whirlpool from which it was hard to escape.

Once he regained his senses, Su Chengyu’s back was already soaked with sweat.

He looked up and saw that there were indeed people engaged in a chase and battle at a distance, a total of three figures; to be precise, one human and two members of the Demon Clan.

The fight between this one human and two demons was extremely fierce, not far from a hurricane, and there was always the danger of being swept into the tempest at any moment.

"Are these two demons both from the Demon King Realm?"

From the intensity of their battle, they didn’t seem to be from the Tongxuan Realm or mere Demon Generals. The combined assault by two Demon Kings was extremely ferocious.

Su Chengyu dared not approach too closely. Being pursued by two Demon Kings, this person was certainly not mediocre, but being too far away, Su Chengyu couldn’t see her face, only discerning that she was a woman.

"You’re not thinking of playing the hero and saving the beauty again, are you?" Heaven-Mending Stone teased.

"Do I look like the kind of person who loses his head over gold?" Su Chengyu retorted, with a twist of his mouth.

"You do," Heaven-Mending Stone said seriously.

Su Chengyu couldn’t be bothered to argue any further. He just watched the battle from a safe distance to avoid getting involved. As the hurricane on the sea swept toward the human and two demons, they had no choice but to fight and retreat in Su Chengyu’s direction. It was apparent that the woman was at a disadvantage, unable to withstand the combined might of the two great Demon Kings, putting her in a dangerous situation.

But this time, Su Chengyu was determined not to meddle in other people’s affairs!
