Gu Ying felt incredibly lucky to have encountered someone as noble as Su Chengyu, or else the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Su Chengyu was playing with Gu Xiaoshuang. Having grown up without a father, Xiaoshuang found herself warmly attached to him.

"Do you have any children, Mr. Su?" asked Gu Ying.

"No," Su Chengyu shook his head.

"You will make a great father one day. Are you married, Mr. Su?" Gu Ying asked.

"I was, but I have since divorced," Su Chengyu answered indifferently.

"Oh, that’s slightly awkward. I apologize for prying." Gu Ying felt a hint of happiness within her.

Chen Yuanheng’s driver arrived in a vehicle at the estate and packed Chen Zehao and his two cronies into it, rushing them to the hospital. Chen Zehao was indeed lucky having survived the four-story fall, not so much his two associates.

The other two men had fallen to their deaths. Now, it was up to Chen Yuanheng to handle the aftermath.

"It is late, I should get going. I will speak with Chen Yuanheng. You won’t be bothered by them anymore."

Gu Ying hastily spoke, "I truly don’t know how to thank you. Mr. Su, I have one more request."

"Go ahead."

Gu Ying bit her lip and continued, "Could you consider being a godfather to my daughter? I just want a better life for her. Xiaoshuang has grown up without a father and is roundly teased by other children..."

"Sure," Su Chengyu nodded. He was quite fond of Little Shuang.

"Thank you! Thank you! Xiaoshuang, kneel down and kowtow to your godfather," exclaimed Gu Ying in joy.

Gu Xiaoshuang liked the uncle who saved her life very much and quickly knelt down to kowtow. Gu Ying hurriedly poured a glass of water saying, "I haven’t prepared any tea so Xiaoshuang will offer you water instead."

"Godfather, have some tea." Xiaoshuang’s little hands offered the glass of water.

Su Chengyu took the glass and tousled her hair, "Make sure to heed your mother’s words at home. I regret not bringing any gifts. Tell me what you like and I will certainly make it up to you."

"No, no! You agreeing to be Xiaoshuang’s godfather is blessing enough. How could we possibly accept gifts from you?" Gu Ying protested.

"It’s tradition. How about this. Tomorrow is the weekend. I will take her out and buy something for her. You don’t need to refuse," Su Chengyu said.

"Thank you, godfather," an elated Xiaoshuang responded.

Gu Ying was so touched that words failed to express her gratitude towards Su Chengyu.

"Oh yes, here is half of the elixir left. I suggest you consume it. It rejuvenates the body and makes you immune to diseases. It would also be beneficial to you. Xiaoshuang has already had a half, so she can’t have any more."

Gu Ying cautiously accepted the elixir from Su Chengyu. She didn’t know its exact value, but after witnessing Xiaoshuang’s revival from her severe injury, she knew the elixir was precious.

"Goodbye, godfather."

Gu Xiaoshuang waved at Su Chengyu, who then promptly left.

"Xiaoshuang, we’ve finally found a benefactor. Your godfather saved our lives today. He is indeed our savior," Gu Ying said.

"Mom, I wish godfather could stay with us forever. I really like him. He can protect Xiaoshuang and you, and then no one can bully us," Xiaoshuang said.

"Your godfather is an extraordinary man. It’s already our good fortune to have received his help. We dare not hope for more. Besides, your mother is not a match for your godfather. You must never say such things in front of him," Gu Ying advised.

She could no longer hide her feelings. Gu Ying found herself falling for Su Chengyu after just one day.

Heartbroken after her relationship fell apart, Gu Ying had virtually lost faith in men. She encountered several suitors over the years whom she didn’t find appealing. She had decided against ever remarrying.

But Su Chengyu, an excellent and immensely charming man, had stirred her dormant emotions. It would be challenging for anyone not to fall for him.

However, Gu Ying was well aware of her situation. She was indeed beautiful but also aging. As a divorcee with a child, she knew men like Su Chengyu would have women throwing themselves at him in torrents. So, where did she stand amidst all this?

Gu Ying tried to be realistic and dared not hazard any romantic wishes.

Hailing a taxi, Su Chengyu left the estate for his hotel. He didn’t expect to find a goddaughter on this trip to Jiangyang. He found Gu Xiaoshuang to be quite cute and adorable, so, why not?

Traveling halfway, a sudden commotion broke up ahead. The area, full of food stalls parked alongside the road, was bustling with diners. Suddenly, a Black Wolf Demon man appeared, catching and biting anyone in its sight, sucking their blood dry, which caused a total pandemonium as diners scattered helter-skelter.

Those too slow to escape were sucked dry of their essence and left dead by the Demon man.

The Black Wolf Demon was wounded, and consuming human essence could hasten its healing process.

Fang Yue, who happened to be dining with friends in the area, saw one of them being captured and drained of their blood. Terrified and in a state of confusion, she ran for her life.

On her flight, Fang Yue stumbled, spraining her ankle and falling to the ground. She managed to get up but could barely run and was soon captured by the Demon man.

The sharp claws of the Demon man dug into Fang Yue’s arm, causing her to scream in pain.

The Demon man, covered in blood, bared his fangs while blood dripped from the corner of his mouth. Fang Yue was frozen in fear and unable to retaliate. She believed that her end was near and could only shriek in absolute terror.

As the Black Wolf Demon opened its mouth to bite Fang Yue’s neck, a loud thud echoed in the chaos. A brute force sent the Demon man flying off, with Fang Yue thrown out as well.

Su Chengyu swiftly stepped forward to catch the falling Fang Yue, held her close, and spun around to steady himself.

"Stay back!"

Su Chengyu didn’t have time to explain and gently let her down before he charged at the getting-back-up Demon man.

The Black Wolf Demon man, baring his fangs and claws, snarled ferociously back at Su Chengyu.

Faced with the Demon man, Su Chengyu wielded his Dragon Slayer sword carefully, ready to strike with his full might.

Fang Yue was still reeling from shock, her body limp. She barely registered the identity of her savior, only knowing that she had miraculously made it out alive.

Confident in his defensive prowess, the Black Wolf Demon ignored Su Chengyu’s Dragon Slayer sword and lunged onwards.

The essence of a martial artist was irresistible to the Demon man. Su Chengyu swung his sword, severing the hand of the overconfident Demon man in the process.

Yelping in pain, the Black Wolf Demon leaked torrents of blood compelling a vicious howl from the creature. It regrouped quickly and lunged again.
