Chapter 322: Chapter 322: Lin Chuxue’s Life Realizations_1

Su Chengyu left the hotel and drove to Lin Chuxue’s apartment.

Lin Chuxue had been busy preparing for the foundation’s affairs these past few days, which had been rather strenuous. Now that the foundation was officially established, it was time to reward her.

On the way there, Fang Qing gave him a call.

"Chengyu, thank you. You not only cured my sister’s illness but also helped her break the witchcraft spell. She can finally stop bearing the stigma of being a husband-killer and get on with her life, perhaps fall in love and start a happy family," Fang Qing said.

Su Chengyu asked calmly, "Did your sister tell you this?"

"Yes! I just called her, and she said it’s been resolved," Fang Qing said happily.

Without exposing Fang Yue’s lie, it seemed that she was genuinely planning to stay single, and was unwilling to accept the Dual Cultivation Decryption Method. Su Chengyu would respect Fang Yue’s choice all the same.

"You’re welcome," Su Chengyu said.

When Su Chengyu arrived at the apartment, he found Lin Chuxue wasn’t home, so he called her. That’s when he learned that Fang Yue had asked Lin Chuxue to meet up.

Fang Yue, feeling distressed, wanted to find a friend to talk to and drink with. Other than her sister Fang Qing, the only other friend she had was Lin Chuxue.

"I’ve just arrived at the bar, why don’t you go to Nan Zhi’s tonight, and come over tomorrow night?" Lin Chuxue suggested quietly.

Though she was eager for some private time with Su Chengyu, she realized that she was still at a phase where her desires were strong and her needs were great.

"Alright, have a few drinks with Miss Fang," he said casually.

Having already spent the afternoon with Xu Nanzhi in a passionate session, Su Chengyu didn’t feel the need.

Fang Yue was troubled. As a traditional woman, she found it hard to accept the dual cultivation method. She believed it to be a sacred act, one that should only be shared with her husband.

Fang Yue had been married twice, and both times she only consummated her marriage on the wedding night. She was strongly averse to pre-marital sex, even with the man she loved.

In this modern age, her views may seem excessively traditional, even conservative, but that doesn’t necessarily make her wrong.

Thus, she rejected Su Chengyu’s proposed solution, resulting in her initial anger. Yet upon reflection, she also understood that Su Chengyu had no malicious intentions, and perhaps this was indeed the only way to break the spell.

Deep down, Fang Yue longed for a happy and fulfilling family, a loving husband she could rely on, so that she could bear children for the man she loved and enjoy the privilege of motherhood.

This was why she was troubled, confused, lost, her feelings a jumbled mess. All she could do was try to drown her sorrows with alcohol.

"Chu Xue, I’ve been wondering, with so many eligible men in the world, why would you choose to share yours? I admit Su Chengyu might be a remarkable and charismatic man, but aren’t you pained, aren’t you jealous when he’s with Xu Nanzhi?" Fang Yue asked, getting slightly drunk.

Fang Yue, with her traditional mindset, could not understand how someone as proud and aloof as Lin Chuxue was willing to share Su Chengyu with other women.

Lin Chuxue was lightly swinging her glass. She had few friends and rarely had the opportunity to open up.

Under the influence of alcohol, Lin Chuxue said, "Growing up, I had a prejudice against men because of my father, who was a philandering jerk. He kept multiple mistresses even though he was married to my mother. I thought all men were jerks, not worthy of my affection."

"My involvement with Su Chengyu started by accident. We ended up in bed together in a whirlwind. I didn’t develop feelings for him because of it, if anything, I despised him more. I hated him so much that I wished I could tear him apart. I even contemplated suicide. However, after more interactions with him, I started noticing his redeeming qualities."

"The more I got to know him, the closer we became, the more I found myself changing without even realizing it. Even though I started having feelings for him, I couldn’t stand it if he spoke more than a few words with another woman. I would get jealous, I would get angry. There was a time when I was determined to cut him off entirely."

Fang Yue knew about Lin Chuxue’s temperament and was curious about what caused such a drastic change in her. The once aloof and frosty Lin Chuxue had become someone entirely different.

"But love is like a poison, once it has you in its grip, it’s hard to break free. It was a trying time for me. It was bitter, painful and heartbreaking, every day was a torment. Until one day, when my family was faced with a calamity, I watched as my grandfather and mother died before my eyes. That’s when he appeared and saved our family as well as myself."

Lin Chuxue narrated the incident when she had misunderstood Su Chengyu and got plotted against by Yuan Chaoqun. Fang Yue listened attentively and once Lin Chuxue finished, she seemed thoughtful, perhaps understanding why Lin Chuxue made such a huge change.

"People must mature through experiences. For the first twenty-plus years of my life, I was always privileged and everything was smooth sailing, leading me to be irrational and think only about myself. However, after experiencing such drastic changes and blows, I understood many truths and freed myself from many mental and ideological constraints."

"Most of the sorrows and pains in life come from mental constraints. When I figured everything out, I felt relaxed, I felt happy. I’m with the man I love, I love him, he loves me, isn’t that enough? Marriage itself is a constraint."

"Even if I were not with Su Chengyu, I might end up alone my entire life, or I might meet other more outstanding men. But the men that would catch my eye would undoubtedly be desirable to many women. In this world filled with temptations, I have no confidence that other men would resist such enticements."

"Life is finite, as ephemeral as autumn grass. As long as I’m happy at this moment, that is enough for me!"

After finishing her thoughts, Lin Chuxue clinked glasses with Fang Yue and finished off her drink, the very picture of carefree acceptance.

Fang Yue reflected on Lin Chuxue’s words, as if understanding something.

"Of course, these are my own thoughts and beliefs, applicable only to me, not necessarily to you!" Lin Chuxue laughed.

Fang Yue also finished her drink. With a tinge of bitterness, she sighed, "I really envy you, you indeed understand life. Chu Xue, I wish you well. Perhaps your way of doing things is not so bad."

The two of them shared much of their inner thoughts. Fang Yue had almost told Lin Chuxue about the witchcraft spell, but restrained herself.

Fang Yue was quite drunk. As the bar was close to Lin Chuxue’s apartment, she took Fang Yue home with her.

Upon entering, Lin Chuxue opened the shoe cabinet and saw Su Chengyu’s shoes inside. "Did he not leave after all?" she wondered.

Lin Chuxue felt a thrill of delight, but also a touch of regret for bringing Fang Yue home. However, it wouldn’t be right to ask Fang Yue to leave now.
