Chapter 171: Chapter 171 Secret Planning_1

"Madam, you saved my life once! When I first came here, I clumsily broke one of Hong Ye’s vases. He wanted to kill me, but you saved me. You probably don’t remember, but I’ve kept it in my heart ever since."

The nanny looked up at Xu Nanzhi with sincere gratitude in her eyes.

"I remember..."

Xu Nanzhi closed the poetry book, but remained on guard, unwilling to trust the nanny easily.

"While being a maid here pays well, it is also very dangerous; every day feels like treading on thin ice! In their eyes, we maids are dispensable, to be insulted and trampled upon at will. Only you treat us like human beings. I’ve always remembered your kindness to me and have no way to repay it."

The nanny, Xie Wanrong, had come to work soon after Xu Nanzhi had started living with Hong Zhen Ting. Several years had passed in a blink of an eye. Xie Wanrong was typically quiet and hardworking, rarely making mistakes.

"If you feel this job is not suitable, you can change to a different one," Xu Nanzhi said.

"Madam, I know you won’t easily trust me, and that’s fine. I was cleaning in the study earlier and happened to hear Hong Ye and Master Ren planning to kill Mr. Su, without leaving him any chances to escape."

After speaking, Xie Wanrong bowed and left Xu Nanzhi’s room.

With her eyes loosely shut, Xu Nanzhi pondered whether she could trust Xie Wanrong’s words. Could this be a trap set by Hong Zhen Ting?

At this point in the world, apart from Su Chengyu and Liu Yan, there was no one whom Xu Nanzhi fully trusted.

However, with Su Chengyu’s safety on the line, even doubtful, Xu Nanzhi could not sit idly by. Xu Nanzhi didn’t call Su Chengyu directly but texted Liu Yan instead, asking her to deliver the message, telling Su Chengyu to be careful and advising him to leave Lin Jiang and lay low.

At this moment, Su Chengyu was driving to Mount Guniu to look for Ziwuteng. As he approached the mountain, he had to pass through a village where the narrow village roads had two police cars parked and many villagers gathered around.

Just then, Fang Qing, in her uniform, came out of a house and saw Su Chengyu driving past.

Fang Qing quickly ran over to stop Su Chengyu’s car.

"Are you alright?"

"I’m fine. Are you disappointed?" Su Chengyu replied coldly.

"Su Chengyu, must you speak to me like this?"

With a gloomy face, Fang Qing whispered accusingly.

"Well how do you want me to talk to you?"

She pursed her lips and said, "Your sister has been arrested, did you know?"

"Captain Fang, you don’t have to worry about that. She’s fine, and I’m fine as well. Now let me pass!" Su Chengyu said indifferently.

A bitter expression flickered on Fang Qing’s face, but she didn’t say anything else, making way for Su Chengyu. He suddenly asked, "What’s happened here?"

"A local family was attacked by criminals last night. Out of the five family members, only the old man survives, he’s in critical condition at the hospital, his wife, son and daughter-in-law were all killed. Preliminary investigation suggests that the old man came into a large sum of money recently and thus was targeted."

Fang Qing briefly explained the case. Su Chengyu frowned; he had come to the village to find the old man who had sold Ziwuteng and ask where he had gotten it. It seemed likely that the victims of the home invasion were the old man and his family.

"Perhaps, I can provide you with some clues, to help you find the murderer," Su Chengyu hesitated and said.

"Oh? What kind of clues?" Fang Qing asked.

Su Chengyu quickly explained the incident of buying Ziwuteng. The old man’s greed had caused his family’s misfortune.

If he hadn’t been so greedy from the start, Su Chengyu would’ve helped him, and he wouldn’t have ended up with his family destroyed today.

This is reaping what one has sowed, a matter of fate, and he can’t blame anyone else.

"So, the culprit might be amongst those who were watching that day. I’ll check the surveillance footage from that day and look into each of them. Thank you for providing the clues," Fang Qing said.

Just as Su Chengyu was about to leave, Fang Qing spoke again, "Su Chengyu, be careful! My master is planning to send my third senior brother to Lin Jiang. He is very strong, a Second Class Grandmaster, you..."

"Enough, stop talking. I don’t want to hear it!"

Su Chengyu stepped on the accelerator and left the village. Fang Qing was so angry that she clenched her teeth and stomped her foot!

"Useless to be good-hearted when people don’t appreciate it! I shouldn’t have told you anything. If you die, so be it!"

Fang Qing was furious and felt wronged. She had betrayed her master by telling Su Chengyu all this, and had struggled a lot before mustering the courage to do so. She didn’t expect that Su Chengyu would not appreciate her kindness at all.

One-sided love is a bitter pill to swallow, and all Fang Qing could do was hide her sadness.

Su Chengyu parked his car at the foot of Mount Guniu. His sports car wouldn’t be able to continue on the path ahead.

His initial resentment and disgust towards Fang Qing had eventually faded due to her multiple betrayals of her own master to tip him off. Su Chengyu no longer held any grudge against Fang Qing.

Him being cold towards Fang Qing was a deliberate act on his part.

The conflict between him and Cai Quan Gate had become irreparable, leaving Fang Qing caught in the middle.

By appearing indifferent to Fang Qing, Su Chengyu hoped that she’d disengage from the situation, avoiding getting sucked into the vortex. It would be harder for her the deeper she gets involved, and the consequent pain would only increase.

Su Chengyu proceeded to walk into Mount Guniu, releasing his Divine Sense to search for heavenly treasures.

All heavenly treasures possess a spiritual essence. Even if they are buried underground, they could not escape Su Chengyu’s Divine Sense.

Since the old man was able to dig up a hundred-year-old Ziwuteng in Mount Guniu, there might be other treasures hidden within the mountain.

Mount Guniu is located in the outskirts of Lin Jiang. Its steep slopes make development difficult, and with a lack of attractive scenic spots, the mountain is virtually barren. The higher you go, the less people you see, with no paths, just sheer cliffs and rocks covered in wild grass.

Su Chengyu ran here just to try his luck, as heavenly treasures are things that one can only come across by chance.

Liu Yan called Su Chengyu, asking, "Where are you?"

"Mount Guniu."

"You certainly know how to hide. It’s indeed safer in the wilderness of a mountain. Nan Zhi does not need to worry about you too much then."

Liu Yan relayed Xu Nanzhi’s message to him and then hung up.

"Hong Zhen Ting, you’re going too far! Do you really think I, Su Chengyu, am an easy target? We have no grudges against each other, is it worth it for you to go to such lengths, and plot to kill me?!"

Su Chengyu was furious. Hong Zhen Ting was like a rabid dog, refusing to let him go. How could Su Chengyu not be enraged?

"So, you want to plot my murder? Well, I’ll beat you at your own game. If you didn’t have Ren Qianzhong to guard you, I would easily kill you as if I were killing a chicken. As long as you’re dead, no one in Lin Jiang could threaten me."

With narrowed eyes, Su Chengyu started hatching his own plot!
