Chapter 1675: Chapter 1676: Vermilion Bird
In front of the Incarnation Pool, the woman furrowed her brows tightly together.
She truly could not understand why the earlier disturbance had only been sensed by herself, while the others, all of whom were also from Ancient Exotic Beast lineages, remained oblivious.
That familiar feeling brought by the disturbance left the woman uneasy, unable to let the matter go from the depths of her heart.
"Big Sister?"
The burly member of the Demon Clan beside her noticed her unusual behavior and spoke instinctively. After all, they were currently in foreign territory and could encounter the Luo Clan Elder Council at any moment.
Yet, the woman, engrossed in her thoughts, appeared not to hear her companion’s voice, still pondering the inexplicable connection between the strange commotion and herself.
At that moment, a blue-and-white sword light shot out from the depths of the Incarnation Pool, heading straight for their location with pinpoint accuracy.
The tremendous surge of power swept across heaven and earth, condensing all the moisture along its path into a dense white mist.
The sudden anomaly finally snapped the woman out of her deep contemplation. However, in that brief moment of distraction, the mist formed by countless tiny ice crystals had already enveloped her group completely.
"Fall back, all of you!"
With a cold shout, flames of orange-red spread outward from the woman instantly.
The ice crystals melted into vapor upon encountering the fire and dissipated into nothingness, while the Exotic Beasts around her scattered without hesitation.
Though it was merely a single sword strike, the opponent’s earth-shattering power was clearly a level beyond what an ordinary Demon Emperor could contend with.
In this area, the only one capable of confronting someone of the Emperor Realm or Hollow Void levels was the woman addressed as Big Sister.
"Heavenly Fire? It seems your identity is quite extraordinary indeed."
A distant, ethereal voice echoed from afar, belonging unmistakably to the wielder of that earlier sword strike.
However, when the woman raised her eyes and followed the voice, there was no trace of anything unusual. All that remained in midair was the ice-blue longsword, its tip pointed directly at her.
"I don’t like people pointing swords at me!"
Even though the opponent was hidden while she stood in the open, the woman showed no sign of fear.
Despite the fact that her earlier technique had been exposed in a single sentence, she remained indifferent and struck back without hesitation.
Nine flames materialized one after another around her, appearing alongside the glow of firelight behind her. With a sweep of her hand, all nine fireballs shot toward the ice-blue longsword in the sky.
Bang!
Water and fire—two forces that are the most incompatible in the world.
Fire rages and consumes water, while water overflows and quenches fire.
Yet now, as the two powers clashed in the air, they held each other in perfect equilibrium, neither willing to give an inch.
The stalemate persisted, and as time went on, the woman’s expression grew increasingly grim.
She had assumed that even if she lacked the strength, her opponent would at most force their way through with another singular sword attack to breach her flames.
However, it was now evident that the opponent had no intention of violently breaking through but instead aimed to wear down her mana through this protracted confrontation.
Could it be that this person knew her weakness?
A sense of foreboding flashed through her mind. While she couldn’t confirm, the woman knew that continuing this battle was not an option. Thus, she made the first move to change tactics.
Leaping into the air with a single step, her gaze and Divine Sense locked firmly onto the ice-blue longsword, and she spoke coldly.
"Let’s see how long you plan to stay hidden!"
As the words fell, the red-haired woman abandoned her human form, transforming into a massive fire bird that launched itself straight at the ice-blue longsword!
"Divine Fire Assaults the Heavens!"
Accompanied by the sharp cry of a phoenix resounding throughout the entire Incarnation Pool, the elder controlling the sword couldn’t help but open his eyes. Staring into the distance, he muttered incredulously.
"It’s actually the Divine Beast Vermilion Bird?"
Feeling his ice-blue longsword, which was tied to his heart and spirit, melt in an instant, the elder’s brows furrowed tightly. No longer able to remain seated, he rose abruptly and transformed into a streak of light, speeding toward the scene.
Yet when he arrived at the battlefield, all that greeted him was the charred and desolate aftermath of destruction. Not a single trace of life remained.
The elder’s brows knitted together as he failed to comprehend how the opponent had concealed their presence so thoroughly right under his nose and then vanished entirely.
"Strange. Could it be that aside from the Vermilion Bird, the Xiao Tribe has sent other unique individuals to target our Luo Clan?"
The Luo Clan had already confirmed that the Xiao Tribe was behind the attack, yet not a single true member of the Xiao Tribe had shown up from the Incarnation Pool incident to the present moment.
The Luo Clan understood that this was the Xiao Tribe’s way of preserving their last bit of leeway. By that logic, however, such a high-ranking Divine Beast like the Vermilion Bird should not have appeared here in the first place.
And now, with it vanishing as it had, the elder’s furrowed brows deepened, an unsettling unease gnawing at him.
Even after scanning the surroundings once more with his Divine Sense, he still detected no presence of any beasts.
Helpless, the elder glanced around one last time before speaking in a heavy tone. "If you wish to flee, then flee far away. Should we cross paths again, I will show no mercy!"
With those words, the elder’s figure once again transformed into a streak of light and vanished into the sky.
In the ground beneath where he had stood, Long Ao Tian observed the commotion outside and spoke. "That old man’s gone?"
"Not necessarily," Bai Qiu replied cautiously, analyzing the situation.
"That elder is at least at the Hollow Void Late Stage. While we may have managed to fool his eyes, it would be even easier for him to obscure the Heavenly Dao and conceal his aura."
"And so? If he truly hasn’t left, then we’ll kill him! Does he think I’m afraid of him?"
The red-haired woman, still restrained by Bai Qiu and Long Ao Tian, voiced her frustration. If they hadn’t forced her down earlier, she would have fought the old man to the death already.
"Ling Xiao! Don’t act rashly. Even if you’re unafraid of complete annihilation, think about the others around you!"
Bai Qiu spoke again to dissuade her. In truth, she knew Ling Xiao only agreed to their plan of hiding here for the sake of the other members of the Demon Clan.
Ling Xiao snorted coldly and turned her face away, saying no more, though it was clear she was displeased with their current state of concealment.
Watching this, Long Ao Tian laughed and teased, "You’ve gone from soaring in the skies to hiding underground. Can’t you at least soften that bad temper a little?"
Clearly familiar with them both, Ling Xiao shot him a glare and retorted, "I may not be able to beat that old man, but dealing with you would be easy. How do you want to die?"
Ling Xiao’s cultivation level was the same as Bai Qiu’s—both at the Demon Emperor Realm.
Though only of low grade, their strength was still a full level above Long Ao Tian, who had yet to reach the Emperor Realm.
Long Ao Tian ground his teeth in frustration but dared not argue further. Bai Qiu stepped in to smooth things over.
"Enough, both of you! If you really start fighting, even if that Luo Clan Hollow Void elder has left, you’ll certainly draw someone back here with all the commotion."
Though neither was at their pinnacle strength, both were Divine Beasts, their Divine Skills capable of shaking heaven and earth.
Any conflict they initiated would inevitably attract attention from all sides.
Fortunately, Ling Xiao’s threat was only meant to scare Long Ao Tian; she had no real intention of attacking. Turning to Bai Qiu, she spoke softly.
"I never expected the White Tiger Clan to send you to the Lower Realm. Truly unexpected."
