Chapter 1652: Chapter 1653: Meeting Each Other
"Heh, do you think it’s possible that Yang Chengyin, that old pervert, has taken advantage of Yan Ruyu and—"
*Clang!*
The sound of the sword rang out as the Dragon Slayer Sword sliced off Mo Ningchen’s tongue, abruptly halting his words.
"I have no interest in hearing your tasteless jokes."
Faced with Su Chengyu’s cold gaze, Mo Ningchen merely smirked sarcastically.
Su Chengyu knew Mo Ningchen had never thought he would genuinely be allowed to leave. That was why Mo Ningchen deliberately said such outrageous words—to reduce his suffering before the inevitable. Yet, Su Chengyu couldn’t even tolerate this kind of talk, making Mo Ningchen regard him as a hypocrite.
Not bothering to explain further, Su Chengyu turned his head toward the turbulent storm engulfing the Great Formation in the distance and spoke coldly, "Enough nonsense. Where is the weak point of the formation."
Unable to speak, Mo Ningchen could only raise his right arm with difficulty and point precisely to the northwest corner of the formation.
With a single beam of sword light, Su Chengyu confirmed the weak point of the Great Formation. Without glancing at the crippled Mo Ningchen struggling on the ground, he flew upward.
"Why do you insist on this? He wished you dead; his death is justified."
The Heaven-Mending Stone, observing Su Chengyu’s departure, spoke casually.
"But I gave my word."
Su Chengyu replied calmly. He knew Mo Ningchen, in his final moments, had ceased to believe he would be spared and had simply wished for his suffering to lessen before death.
To Su Chengyu, it would have been easy to sever all Mo Ningchen’s meridians with three strokes of his sword and destroy his cultivation entirely.
Yet, once he promised to let him go, Su Chengyu was steadfast in fulfilling his word.
"I really don’t understand you people. Is this kind of thing truly so important? What does it matter if no one knows?"
"I know."
Su Chengyu replied lightly and then gazed into the distance, his voice soft. "The hardest deception is not deceiving others but deceiving yourself. I have confidence that I am not lying to myself. To stay true to my heart, I must honor my promises."
"Whatever you say. Anyway, that guy probably won’t have a chance to come back, unless..."
The Heaven-Mending Stone didn’t finish its sentence, but Su Chengyu already knew what it meant.
As a human, Mo Ningchen had no chance of rebuilding his cultivation.
His meridians were shattered, his organs damaged, and even his True Qi entirely drained by Su Chengyu’s final three strikes. Not an ounce remained.
Yet both the Heaven-Mending Stone and Su Chengyu were acutely aware that if Mo Ningchen truly embraced the Demonic Path—or the Demon Clan—everything could start anew.
*Buzz!*
The sound of the sword was like a bell, as Su Chengyu’s blade struck the weakest point of the formation, encountering little resistance.
Sensing external intrusion, the other parts of the Heaven-reaching Ghost-killing Formation tried to compensate for the breached area, but Su Chengyu’s strike was too fast, too decisive.
Leaving the formation no time to respond, Su Chengyu tore open a gap and, transforming into a golden streak of light, charged into the formation.
The moment he entered, countless masterless spirits swarmed toward Su Chengyu like mad creatures.
Feeling the faintly familiar aura from the spirits, Su Chengyu instantly understood their original identities.
However, affected by the entirety of the formation, they had lost all traces of reason, attacking indiscriminately, friend or foe.
"Little Shi?"
Su Chengyu tentatively called out. Before he could say more, the Heaven-Mending Stone’s Five-Color Divine Light enveloped him.
"Relax. You don’t need to say anything for something as trivial as this. But mark my word, I’ll protect you this time only—don’t ask for more afterward."
With the Heaven-Mending Stone’s assurance, Su Chengyu felt relieved.
He understood the Heaven-Mending Stone’s actions were also aimed at preserving its own Vital Force during this period. Protecting him from these spirits was already sufficient for Su Chengyu.
Surveying the area, Su Chengyu couldn’t immediately pinpoint Yu Yanshu’s location.
But thanks to the connection with Bai Qiu and Ao Tian through their contract, he located their positions effortlessly and flew swiftly toward them.
Not long after, he spotted Ao Tian sprawled helplessly on the ground and Bai Qiu fending off spirits nearby in her true form.
"Apologies—I’m late."
Su Chengyu spoke, prompting the half-dead Ao Tian to open his eyes and retort tartly.
"You finally showed up. Were you really not worried about the two of us dying here?"
Ao Tian’s mood was clearly sour after all the undue suffering he had endured since entering this place. Seeing Su Chengyu, he didn’t bother hiding his dissatisfaction.
Su Chengyu chuckled faintly, choosing to ignore Ao Tian’s complaints, and looked toward Bai Qiu. "Exhausted?"
Bai Qiu shook her head. With her true form revealed and Ao Tian’s fragile ego long disregarded, she had no qualms admitting that while she couldn’t break the formation, keeping herself and Ao Tian safe wasn’t a problem.
After all, this formation was not designed for living beings; it targeted only the spirits within.
"We’re fine, but the Qiuqiu Fox Clan’s legacy is likely lost entirely."
Bai Qiu, aware of the enemy’s last-ditch effort to destroy everything, forewarned Su Chengyu.
Already sensing disturbances within the formation, Su Chengyu merely nodded, saying nothing further.
The legacy wasn’t his concern. What truly mattered to Su Chengyu was the safety of Bai Huang and Yu Yanshu.
"Where’s Yan’er and the others?"
Responding to his question, Bai Qiu gestured in a direction, and Su Chengyu, without hesitation, grabbed Bai Qiu and Ao Tian, flying toward the indicated location.
As they approached, Su Chengyu suddenly sensed an extraordinarily familiar aura. His steps instinctively slowed as he stared in disbelief at a web of profound green light in the distance.
"It’s the Green Hillock Empress."
Bai Qiu, noticing Su Chengyu’s strangeness, spoke softly.
Su Chengyu took a deep breath and steeled himself mentally before continuing forward.
He was well aware that the Heavenly Fox Orb contained a strand of the Green Hillock Empress’s Divine Sense. He had Bai Qiu carry this artifact ahead in hopes it could decisively influence the endgame here.
Yet, facing his grandmother, whom he had never met, Su Chengyu couldn’t help but feel somewhat apprehensive.
"Master!"
From deep within the green light, Yu Yanshu spotted Su Chengyu and cried out joyfully. Disregarding all surrounding danger, she darted out of the light and threw herself into Su Chengyu’s arms.
Su Chengyu embraced the girl, who had grown to nearly match him in height, feeling a wave of guilt rise within.
"I’m sorry, Yan’er. It’s my fault for putting you in danger."
Understanding Su Chengyu’s apology, Yu Yanshu, who had resolved her inner conflict, said nothing. She merely shook her head quietly in his embrace, without any reproach.
Su Chengyu, moved, gently patted Yu Yanshu’s head. His gaze shifted, settling on the woman cloaked in green light.
With her features indistinct, the woman smiled at Su Chengyu and spoke softly.
"Yu Er, at last, we truly meet."
