Chapter 1582: Chapter 1583: Fairy in the River

Back at the port and ashore, Su Chengyu hardly exchanged pleasantries with the fisherman couple and immediately left the port.

Su Chengyu was well aware of the countless pairs of eyes monitoring him, understanding that a single careless action could bring a catastrophic disaster to this ordinary fisherman couple.

The villagers of Luoshui Village are humans, ordinary to the point of utter commonplace.

However, behind these ordinary people, the shadow of the Luo Clan lurks everywhere.

Choosing to act within Luoshui Village, Su Chengyu’s intention was not only to find the entrance to Luo Clan’s Blessed Realm but more importantly, to figure out exactly what the Luo Clan is up to by herding these ordinary people as if enclosing them within a pen.

And this question, Su Chengyu had a premonition, would be answered tonight.

The moon shone brightly and sparse stars twinkled, while fishing boats drifting in Luoshui at night added an extra hint of eeriness.

Although Su Chengyu hadn’t left, making himself invisible in front of these ordinary people was an extremely easy task for him.

During this time, he clearly saw several robust villagers from Luoshui Village search the vicinity for his tracks before returning to the village after failing to find anything.

Su Chengyu did not know what they wanted with him, but his contact with the two boatmen had made it clear that unless absolutely necessary, he must avoid any direct contact with the people of Luoshui Village.

Any one of them could be the eyes, the eyes of the Luo Clan placed in the mundane world.

After concealing his face and hiding his form, Su Chengyu sneaked near the abandoned temple in Luoshui Village.

Just as the boatman had said, the temple is now unattended, looking neglected and seemingly in ruins for at least a hundred years.

Yet even so, Su Chengyu still smelled an indelible scent of blood in the air around the dilapidated temple.

This was not the smell of animal blood used for sacrifices, but the thick scent of human blood from someone who died on this spot.

It’s a pity that, although the smell persists, any traces had been thoroughly concealed by the passage of time; within the countless broken walls and remnants of the desolate temple, no signs of past incidents could be found.

"Who’s there?"

An alert voice came from inside the temple; Su Chengyu felt surprised as he had not sensed any life before the voice appeared. He looked towards the dark corner and quickly noticed a pair of vigilant eyes staring intently at him.

A child, looking to be about ten years old, was curled up in the corner, eyeing him with hostility.

"Why are you here all alone and not going home on such a late night?"

Su Chengyu asked kindly.

"None of your business. Who are you to care where I am?"

Su Chengyu blinked and said, "I come from outside."

"Outside?" The child hesitated for a moment, then became more vigilant and asked, "You’re not from our village?"

"Yes, but don’t worry..."

"Get out of my house!"

Before Su Chengyu could finish his sentence, the child suddenly grabbed a stone at hand and threw it at Su Chengyu.

Su Chengyu dodged, and the stone hit a wooden pillar in the temple.

The stone, the size of half a fist, lodged directly into the pillar; had it hit an ordinary person’s head, Su Chengyu seriously doubted whether the person could remain conscious.

"Are you really not afraid that one stone could kill me?"

Su Chengyu turned and asked the other party.

"An outsider’s death is no big deal!"

After finishing his words, another pebble was thrown at Su Chengyu. He didn’t sense any ill intent; the only emotion he could feel was an air of indifference.

It was as if, in the eyes of this child, the life of Su Chengyu, this outsider, was not a living one at all.

This time Su Chengyu did not dodge but reached out and caught the pebble, a move that momentarily stunned the child, who then picked up two stones and threw them with even more force at Su Chengyu.

However, without exception, the swiftly flying stones were all caught by Su Chengyu, without even once hitting anywhere else.

"Who on earth are you? A monster?"

"Monster?"

Su Chengyu chuckled at the word and countered: "Why can’t I be an Immortal? Doesn’t Luoshui Village have legends about Immortals?"

Inside the dilapidated temple, although Su Chengyu found no meaningful clues, he could faintly see on the surrounding walls the scene of a group of people worshiping a river Fairy; clearly, in the eyes of the villagers of Luoshui, there were Immortals in the Luoshui.

"Immortal? You’re not worthy!"

The child was not in the least bit swayed by Su Chengyu’s words. The wariness and disdain he showed towards Su Chengyu were almost identical to his first encounter with Yu Yanshu all those years ago.

Beneath those clear eyes was a strong hatred for this world.

This time, Su Chengyu dodged the incoming pebble and then his figure vanished from the spot.

The child was taken aback for a moment, and by the time he reacted, Su Chengyu was already standing beside him.

"Now what? Am I worthy or not?"

The child was startled, and instinctively turned around trying to bite Su Chengyu’s right arm.

Seeing this, Su Chengyu sighed helplessly, then raised his hand lightly and touched the child, instantly fixing the child in place and making him incapable of any movement.

"What... what did you do?"

"Fixed Body Technique, just a tiny trick. Do you believe now that I’m an Immortal?"

"Pah! What kind of crap Immortal. Our Luoshui’s Fairy is only Luo Shen!"

"Luo Shen? Is that her?"

Su Chengyu, upon hearing this unfamiliar name, looked towards the mural behind the child, the woman worshipped by thousands.

"Of course! Let me go now, otherwise Luo Shen won’t let you off!"

"Alright."

Su Chengyu spoke and then released the Fixed Body spell on the child, his mind then focusing on the mural behind the child that he had not noticed before.

The child glanced at the engrossed Su Chengyu, his eyes rolling around, and then he quietly moved towards a concealed club beside him, but just as he was about to grab it...

"I’d advise you not to have any other ideas, otherwise, even if your Luo Shen appeared right here, I could still let you die first in this broken temple."

The calm statement held not even a hint of threat, as if merely stating an absolutely ordinary reality. After hesitating for a moment, the child ultimately did not pick up the hidden club. Instead, he just watched Su Chengyu warily and said.

"Who... who are you really?"

"Haven’t I told you? For you, I am an Immortal."

At the Nascent Soul Realm, claiming to be an Immortal might seem a bit exaggerated, but for these people who know nothing of Spell or Cultivation, an Immortal is definitely not an overstatement.

For instance, the woman in the mural before him, bearing some resemblance to Nan Zhi, Su Chengyu believed that for the people of Luoshui Village, she was indeed a true river Immortal.
