Chapter 157: Chapter 157: My life’s reputation is ruined!_1

With his legs crossed, Li Yuancang looked slightly more relaxed as he pointed to a room nearby and said, "You can stay in that room. The one across from it is mine. You can wear my clothes from there. I have to head back to the city later."

"How did you know Ren Qianzhong would make an attempt on my life tonight?" Su Chengyu, spotting blood on his clothes, smoothly took them off and placed them on the couch.

"I’m not an idiot," snapped Li Yuancang, "Ever since the duel at the sports arena ended, I figured Hong Ye might take a swing at you, so I’ve been keeping tabs on you."

"Seems like you know Hong Zhen Ting well," Su Chengyu remarked, a cold glint in his eyes.

"Hong Ye likes control and is naturally suspicious. After holding a high position for so long, he won’t allow anyone to threaten his status. He previously asked me to test you when I had the chance," explained Li Yuancang.

"Why did you decide to work for Hong Zhen Ting? I hear he’s done you a favor in the past."

Li Yuancang nodded before starting to share his story with Su Chengyu.

Li Yuancang was born in this small fishing village. When he was ten years old, his parents went fishing and were tragically lost at sea. They left him under the guardianship of his godparents.

Mao Yongnian only had one daughter named Mao Wenjuan. She was accepted into Linjiang University, where she was violated by a gangster.

However, the perpetrator had powerful connections. Plus, Mao Wenjuan had no experience dealing with such situations, and did not report it to the police or preserve any evidence immediately. As a result, he was beyond the reach of prosecution when she eventually decided to go to the police.

Facing heavy criticism at school, Mao Wenjuan chose to take her own life.

The Mao Yongnian couple were honest and simple-hearted fishermen. They were helpless against such coercive forces.

Young Li Yuancang, hot-tempered as he was, couldn’t swallow this humiliation. Thrusting a kitchen knife in his hand, he set out to take revenge. After lying in wait for a long time, he finally found an opportunity. But he didn’t succeed and was almost beaten to death instead.

Just then, Hong Zhen Ting and Ren Qianzhong happened to pass by. Ren Qianzhong noticed that Li Yuancang had an exceptional physique and saw potential in him hence he commanded Hong Zhen Ting to save Li Yuancang.

Hong Zhen Ting nurtured Li Yuancang, and in return all he asked was for Li Yuancang to serve him later. When Li Yuancang was lost in despair and all he had in his heart was revenge, he unequivocally agreed to the conditions.

Years later, Hong Zhen Ting sent him for brutal training. After acquiring a set of skills, Li Yuancang returned as one of Hong Zhen Ting’s bravest warriors.

"I see, so Hong Zhen Ting really did you a favor. Helping me like this, wouldn’t you be..." Su Chengyu mused.

"I, Li Yuancang, don’t have many friends. I typically consider myself superior to others. But, I do have a tiny bit of admiration for you. Didn’t want to see you die just like that," Li Yuancang retorted while flicking his fringe.

"Why didn’t your godparents follow you to the city when you moved? Why did they choose to stay in this fishing village?" asked Su Chengyu.

"You’re smart. Don’t you have an idea?" Li Yuancang snarked back.

"I guess I have an idea. But how did you get the name ’Little Maodan’? It’s hard not to laugh when I say it," probed Su Chengyu, still holding back his laughter.

"Su Chengyu, god damn it!" Li Yuancang glared.

"I was just curious, purely curious..."

"Our local tradition requires godparents to give you a new name once the vows are said. My godfather named me Mao Wendan, but everyone started calling me ’Little Maodan’ over time. Be warned, if you dare leak this secret, don’t blame me for turning hostile," Li Yuancang threatened earnestly.

"Don’t worry, my lips are sealed," Su Chengyu reassured him while suppressing his laughter.

"Alright, I have to head back now. You stay here and take care of yourself," said Li Yuancang as he prepared to leave.

"Hong Zhen Ting is a suspicious person, and he must’ve known that you lent me your sword. He might be suspicious of you as well. Be careful," Su Chengyu warned him.

"I’m clever enough to figure that out. Do you think I’m as slow as you?" countered Li Yuancang, with a cocky grin.

"There’s one more thing. I’m really concerned about my sister’s safety," Su Chengyu admitted, sighing deeply.

"Hong Ye wouldn’t lay hands on an ordinary girl, would he?" suggested Li Yuancang.

But Su Chengyu shook his head, "Not necessarily! Hong Zhen Ting didn’t reach the heights he’s at today without being ruthless. He’s the type who would stop at nothing. If he continues failing to track me down, there’s no guarantee he won’t do something extreme."

"Alright! I’ll take care of her safety. As long as I’m alive, I promise no one will harm even a single hair of your sister," pledged Li Yuancang.

Li Yuancang coming to his aid at this crucial time touched Su Chengyu. After all, they barely knew each other beforehand.

Su Chengyu gratefully accepted Li Yuancang as his friend.

"Thank you!"

Su Chengyu rose to his feet and shared a hug with Li Yuancang, just as Xu Fengying came upstairs with a tray of fruit. The scene she witnessed was certainly peculiar.

Especially since Su Chengyu only had a pair of pants on. This sight wasn’t the most charming!

"Yuancang, you two..." Xu Fengying could hardly believe what she was seeing.

Hastily, Li Yuancang pushed Su Chengyu away and snapped, "What the hell? Can’t two men talk properly? Why the hell did you hug me?"

After admonishing Su Chengyu, Li Yuancang turned to Xu Fengying and said, "Godmother, I have errands to run. I’ll come and visit you guys next time."

Su Chengyu let out a chuckle. He was secretly thinking, ’I considered you a brother, hence the hug. Now you’re acting all disgusted? Fine then. I’ll save my hugs for Aunt Xu.’

Xu Fengying handed him the fruit. She tried to start a casual conversation with Su Chengyu but couldn’t help feeling strange while looking at him.

Su Chengyu sat cross-legged in his room. The air around the fishing village was rife with nature’s spiritual energy which was helpful for his recovery.

Suddenly, his ears picked up whispers from downstairs. It was Mao Yongnian talking to Xu Fengying.

"Yongnian, when I went upstairs, I saw Little Su shirtless, hugging Yuancang. Do you think they might be homosexual?"

"That can’t be, can it?" responded Mao Yongnian.

"Why not? Yuancang is already quite old and he has always been single. He never even had a girlfriend. And Little Su is quite handsome. I heard that amongst city dwellers these days, there are many who are into the same sex..."

"Ah... you’re actually right. Something’s weird. All these years, Yuancang has never brought any friends home, and the first person he does bring happens to be a man. What are we supposed to do now? We can’t let the Lee family’s lineage come to an end!"

"Ah! Just look at these kids... living in the city and picking up such strange habits..."

The couple sighed and with their chatter, they arrived at the conclusion that Su Chengyu and Li Yuancang’s relationship was abnormal!

Upon hearing the conversation between the couple, Su Chengyu’s Dao Heart was thrown into chaos!

"That’s it! My reputation’s gone!" He lamented.
