Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Either be a dog, or die!_1

"Su Chengyu...In tomorrow’s battle, when facing Hou Congsheng, never let your guard down. I’ve sparred with Hou Congsheng, his Thirty-six Wind Chasing Illusion kicks are not to be underestimated," said Li Yuancang out of the blue.

"Thanks for the reminder," Su Chengyu replied, his hands held in salute.

"Who said I wanted your thanks? I don’t want you dying at his hands, you have to stay alive, I want to beat you myself," Li Yuancang coldly huffed, flicking his long windblown bangs.

Chuckling, Su Chengyu shook his head, finding Li Yuancang’s temperament surprisingly similar to his own.

"You should really think about changing your hairstyle, it’s way too emo! Hasn’t anyone ever told you it’s ugly?" Su Chengyu paused his step, raising the subject.

"You’re talking nonsense! You’re probably just jealous that I’m better looking than you, aren’t you? Do you understand what individualism is? As the youngest top martial artist in Lin Jiang, I need to express my individuality. Look at you, even though you’re stronger than me, you’re too ordinary, barely any individuality to speak of," Li Yuancang said haughtily.

"You must have some misconceptions about individuality, people may think you’re some hairstylist at a hair salon," rejoined Su Chengyu not backing down, crossing swords verbally.

"Su Chengyu! I hope Hou Congsheng grinds you into the ground tomorrow, smashes that smart-mouthed face of yours," retorted Li Yuancang, flushed with infuriated embarrassment.

Laughing heartily, Su Chengyu left the private room.

"You’re welcome to come and watch the fight tomorrow!"

Both of them were of the same age, the young standout candidates in Lin Jiang. With similar temperaments, they were more acquainted after this bout, unknowingly nurturing a mutual appreciation for each other.

After Su Chengyu and his party left, Li Yuancang gestured for his aide to approach him and asked, "Does my hairstyle look emo? Like a hairstylist?"

"Not at all! It’s cool, and individualistic!" the aide instantly replied.

"You do have good taste, unlike Su Chengyu’s terrible aesthetics, daring to compare me to a hairstylist. You wait, I’m going to defeat you and force a similar hairstyle upon you, then we’ll see if you dare to call me a hairstylist!"

Li Yuancang pulled the Eight-sided Han Sword off the wall, sliding it into its sheath as he too exited the room.

When they left the Jinhuang Night Club, Su Xiaoxiao’s classmates all breathed a sigh of relief.

"Brother Su, thank you for today. Not only did we get to ride in a luxury car and have a grand dinner, we also broadened our horizons," all classmates chimed in.

"No need for formalities, you guys should head back to school now. If you want to watch the fight tomorrow, make sure to arrive early at the gymnasium," Su Chengyu responded with a smile.

"Alright, Brother Su, goodbye!"

The group waved at Su Chengyu and then hailed a cab back to school.

Su Chengyu made his way home with Su Xiaoxiao.

"Brother, that Li Yuancang is quite interesting," stated Su Xiaoxiao.

"He’s just a poser. But yes, he is different from typical martial artists," Su Chengyu snorted.

"I have a feeling that you two might end up becoming friends," Su Xiaoxiao suggested.

Immediately retorting, Su Chengyu stated, "Who would want to be friends with that kind of poser? Impossible!"

Hearing Su Chengyu’s direct rebuttal, Su Xiaoxiao covered her mouth in soft laughter.

"Brother, get some rest early. You have a tough battle ahead tomorrow, good luck!" Wrapping up her sentence, Su Xiaoxiao stole a swift kiss on Su Chengyu’s lips.

"Damn it! There goes my first kiss!" Su Chengyu lamented that Su Xiaoxiao was becoming more audacious and seemingly bad-influenced.

Once back in his room, Su Chengyu immediately started meditating to restore his energy. The battle of tomorrow had drawn the city’s attention. He needed to prepare himself, ensuring he was in the best condition for the fight.

Inside his villa, mansion manager Zhu stepped into Hong Zhen Ting’s office where he was presently playing chess with Ren Qianzhong. Hong Zhen Ting was holding a chess piece, hesitating and deep in thought, so Zhu silently stood by, careful not to interfere.

Only after Hong Zhen Ting put down his chess piece did Zhu dare to report.

"Hong Ye, Su Chengyu showed up at the Jinhuang Night Club tonight and injured a few people. He defeated Li Yuancang in a match."

"The sophistication of Li Yuancang’s swordsmanship puts him above anyone else in Lin Jiang in that respect. If Su Chengyu could beat him, it shows he has some skill," replied Hong Zhen Ting.

Ren Qianzhong then asked, "How many moves did it take Li Yuancang to be defeated by Su Chengyu?"

"Before Li Yuancang unsheathed his sword, Su Chengyu defeated him with just one hand. After unsheathing his sword, he was defeated in thirty-two moves," Zhu reported.

"You may leave."

Hong Zhen Ting waved his hand, and Zhu left the room. Turning to Ren Qianzhong, Hong Zhen Ting asked, "What do you make of the battle tomorrow, Brother Ren?"

"Su Chengyu is destined to lose," Ren Qianzhong replied as he placed a chess piece.

"Oh? Brother Ren, you sound quite sure," Hong Zhen Ting said as he looked at the chessboard.

"When Li Yuancang fought with Hou Congsheng before, he was defeated in twenty-one moves. Although Li Yuancang’s swordsmanship has improved since then, Hou Congsheng hasn’t been idle either. That’s why I’m certain that Su Chengyu won’t be able to beat Hou Congsheng."

As the top martial artist in Lin Jiang, Ren Qianzhong had the credentials to assess all the martial artists in the Lin Jiang community.

"That works too, saving you the trouble of having to kill him. Tomorrow, he is bound to die," Hong Zhen Ting stated.

"You want to kill him?" Ren Qianzhong asked, puzzled.

"Do you remember, Brother Ren, half a month ago I asked for your opinion, and you said this person was just an insignificant character, not worth our attention. Look how much time has passed, and he is now ranked fifth on the top martial artists list. This guy must have been laying low before, growing silently. It’s not a good thing to have such a person growing up but not for our use," Hong Zhen Ting explained.

As the ruler of Lin Jiang’s martial arts world, Hong Zhen Ting refused to let any other top martial artists exist outside of his control.

Once considered insignificant, Su Chengyu was ignored by him, but the rapid ascent of present-day Su Chengyu was starting to pose a minor threat to Hong Zhen Ting.

"Don’t worry, he’s bound to die tomorrow," Ren Qianzhong, putting down a chess piece, assured him, "I won this game."

In another room in the villa, Xu Nanzhi stood by the window, her face etched with worry.

Though she understood that Su Chengyu was now a cultivator, standing above all martial artists, he had not yet fully grown. At this stage, Su Chengyu was still a small sapling with a long way to go before becoming a towering tree. This was the most dangerous stage where one slip might cost him his life.

Xu Nanzhi wasn’t too concerned about Su Chengyu’s battle the next day. What she was worried about was the growing danger he would face after the fight.

Xu Nanzhi knew Hong Zhen Ting well. After the fight, Su Chengyu would have only two choices: either he had to serve Hong Zhen Ting or be killed by him. Hong Zhen Ting would not let such a person exist outside of his control.

But she knew Su Chengyu’s temperament even better. This man had an indomitable spirit. How could he possibly serve Hong Zhen Ting?

This was an impasse that could not be resolved.
