Chapter 1094: Subverting Superiority

Chapter 1094: Chapter 1094: Subverting Superiority

Dongying was also an island nation, but its territory was considerably larger than the minuscule Liuli Country.

Moreover, most of its land was connected by landmasses, Su Chengyu didn’t know whether this was convenient for the people of the world, but it certainly was convenient for the Royal Family in controlling the entire Dongying.

For a long time, Dongying had an Emperor.

The Emperor held the highest sovereign power, with the Cabinet responsible for domestic affairs.

In simple terms, the Emperor usually didn’t concern himself with anything, acting like a hands-off manager, but if they wished, they could interfere in any matter.

The Dawn Harbor Emperor, the possessor of Dongying’s supreme authority.

And yet, with such absolute centralization of power, the status of Dongying’s Royal Family had remained unshaken for hundreds of years.

It wasn’t that no one had thought about challenging it, but that nobody could.

After all, the close relationship between the Emperor’s lineage and the Demon Clan was a well-known fact.

Dongying’s attitude towards the Demon Clan was very special; not only was it one of the few that allowed demons to have the same status as humans, but it also granted both demons and humans far too superior statuses.

In Dongying, as long as you had enough strength, humans could enslave demons, and vice versa.

There was no clear boundary between the Demon Clan and the Human Clan, not just behind the scenes, but even those in the public eye could well be demons.

Of course, to flaunt oneself brazenly required capability, for the identity of a demon was ultimately special. They could not be compared with the Human Clan as common practice, and drawing too much attention in a place like Dongying, where strength reigned supreme over all rules, could lead to serious trouble.

Therefore, demons, on the surface, still kept a low profile.

The means by which Dongying enslaved demons were the result of the transactions between demons and humans.

"Truly, a land naturally suited for lawlessness," he muttered.

Dressed in the attire of ordinary people and walking through the streets of Dongying, he felt uneasy amongst the flow of people, sometimes spotting demons among them, a chaotic scene unimaginable in Xia Country.

Su Chengyu even couldn’t comprehend how such a large number of demons and humans living together could lead to a stable society.

Although demons also belonged to a species that had opened their Heavenly Spirit Cover, whether it was for cultivation or simply the strong preying on the weak, attacking humans was almost an instinctual act for them.

Yet Su Chengyu noticed that the demons here did not do so and were much more polite to humans than he had expected.

Putting his doubts aside for the moment, Su Cheng turned the corner after several alleys and arrived at a secluded pub.

Looking at the pub with few patrons, Su Chengyu immediately sensed a piercing chill in the air.

As soon as Su Chengyu walked in, he instantly became aware of the dozens of eyes observing him from the shadows.

Upon noticing Su Chengyu’s arrival, a man dressed as a chef behind the counter said, "We’re closed for today, please come back tomorrow morning, sir."

And facing this clear dismissal, Su Chengyu did not stop, continuing to walk up to the edge of the counter.

"I’m not here to dine, I’m looking for Shinazugawa Sanemi."

At the mention of that name, the man’s brows furrowed, and the drunken facade he previously held vanished in an instant. He stood up, looking at Su Chengyu warily and asked,

"Who are you?"

Su Chengyu, somewhat perplexed, said, "Didn’t Shinazugawa Sanemi inform you?"

The pub owner stared intensely at Su Chengyu, trying to discern the young man’s true intentions, but looking at the young Su Chengyu, who appeared very mature for his age, he could not find any hints on that unfazed face.

"Wait a moment."

After saying this, he turned and entered the interior of the izakaya. Su Chengyu did not hurry, but sat quietly on the side, waiting.

Su Chengyu could sense that there were at least a dozen ninjas hidden in the dark, but most of them were mediocre, apparently only lower ninjas. It seemed that their post here was merely a precaution.

The girl Shinazugawa Sanemi might be a little too proud, but she surely wasn’t foolish enough to think that these lower ninjas could detain him, right?

As Su Chengyu was contemplating this, several meteor darts suddenly came flying directly at his face.

Su Chengyu frowned slightly, and without even lifting his hand, with just a glance, the darts stopped in front of his face.

For an attack at this level, Su Chengyu could defend completely just with his ability to control objects.

Su Chengyu reached out to pick up the poisoned darts suspended in the air, then spoke softly, "Is this the Koka Clan’s way of treating guests?"

After Su Chengyu’s voice fell, a man wearing a half-mask walked out and said to Su Chengyu, "Just confirming your identity, please don’t mind."

A glint flashed in Su Chengyu’s eyes, but considering he still needed to negotiate a trade, he managed to restrain himself.

After crushing the darts in his hand, which should be referred to as shuriken here, into dust, he asked, "Is my identity clear now?"

"Are you the ’Feather’ from Xia Country?"

Su Chengyu glanced at the man and replied softly, "Does it matter where I come from?"

Although Su Chengyu had told Shinazugawa Sanemi his surname, Chengyu, he had not mentioned that he was from Xia Country.

Even if that accidental encounter led her to suspect his identity, she couldn’t have investigated it so thoroughly. The man’s words were just a baseless probe.

"You are very cautious," the masked man remarked and took a seat across from Su Chengyu.

Su Chengyu had no desire to play games with this fellow and directly asked, "Where is Shinazugawa Sanemi?"

The man shook his head, "The elder sister is not here at the moment. The trade will have to wait until she arrives."

Su Chengyu’s brows furrowed, but before he could speak, the man continued, "The elder sister has been waiting here for you for several days now, her sincerity is sufficient."

Su Chengyu internally laughed, failing to see the relation between this and sincerity. If it weren’t for the fact that his bargaining chip was substantial, would Shinazugawa Sanemi care so much?

Nevertheless, Su Chengyu couldn’t be bothered to say anything else and stood up, saying, "Then, I will come back later."

However, just as Su Chengyu stood up, suddenly, over a dozen figures emerged from the shadows, surrounding him.

"Before the elder sister arrives, you cannot leave."

Su Chengyu was not surprised by this turn of events and said directly, "You seem to be misunderstanding something. I am here to trade with Shinazugawa Sanemi, not to be threatened by you."

"This is also part of the trade process," the masked man said calmly.

Su Chengyu’s gaze swept over the crowd, "A piece of advice for you, you people cannot detain me; the difference in our realms is too great."

"Whether we can detain you or not, how will we know if we don’t try? Our Koka Clan’s ninjas specialize in overcoming those stronger than themselves!"

As the words fell, the dozen ninjas almost moved at the same time. Each of these lower ninjas, equivalent to the Tongxuan Realm, moved, making it feel as though there were hundreds of them.

But Su Chengyu knew these were just distractions. The real threat was the man with upper ninja strength.

Taking advantage of the distraction caused by the others, the man suddenly appeared above Su Chengyu, wielding a sharp dagger aiming directly for Su Chengyu’s Heavenly Spirit Cover!
