As Yang Qi's best friend, Yan Fei was already well acquainted with Yang Qi's parents. So he began to inquire about Yang Qi's situation and learned from Yang Qi's father that he was unaware of the danger Yang Qi had encountered in the United States. Additionally, there was another reason that made it crucial for Yan Fei to save Yang Qi–Yang Qi was the chief scientist that Yan Fei had earmarked for Dream Technology. The Drone's recent upgrade included a mind control device that could connect directly to the Auxiliary Brain, allowing for rapid data transfer between the user and the Auxiliary Brain, enabling the user to control the Technology Deduction System's operations through the Auxiliary Brain.

This mind control device had been in his possession for quite some time, but Yan Fei had not authorized anyone to use it yet; he had meant to reserve it for Yang Qi. Yan Fei's plan was to eventually invite Yang Qi to join Dream Technology after the construction of Misty Island was completed, to boost the explosive growth of Dream Technology. While Yan Fei was concerned about Yang Qi's safety, the Auxiliary Brain suddenly found a CNN news video broadcast on the American Network. The video featured the latest news about Yang Qi. It was 3 a.m. on Misty Island, midnight the previous day in China, and 8 a.m. the previous morning in the Rocky Mountains, USA, where Yang Qi was located.

The news report from CNN had just aired as part of the morning segment. In the video, a photo of Yang Qi wearing black-rimmed glasses was displayed prominently to the right; this image was clearly taken from Yang Qi's passport. In the photo, Yang Qi appeared quite solemn, yet below the image, he was labeled as a wanted criminal.

The news anchor was describing the crimes Yang Qi had purportedly committed. According to him, Yang Qi, a member of KB from China, had come to Los Angeles under the guise of a visiting scholar but ended up creating a bomb during a scientific exchange, intending to launch a KB attack in the United States.
