Chapter 907 - 907 893 A Glimmer Before Dying

Chapter 907: Chapter 893: A Glimmer Before Dying Chapter 907: Chapter 893: A Glimmer Before Dying The Red Demonic Spirit hurriedly brought in a bucket of water.

This guy actually came in without fetching any water first.

“Do you want to help him shed his fur?” Yang Tao’er yelled, “Add half a bucket of water.”

“Why didn’t you say so earlier?” complained the Red Demonic Spirit.

“Hurry up.”

“I know, I know.”

It took until midnight to finally get him soaked in a tub of brewed medicinal concoction.

Yang Tao’er was worn out by the ordeal.

“Keep a close eye on him, don’t accidentally drown him instead of poisoning him to death, reheat the bath every half hour,” Yang Tao’er called from outside.

“He’s not my beloved, why should I care about his life? You better keep an eye on him yourself, and reheat the water every half hour.” The Red Demonic Spirit had been running ragged for days, hardly catching any good sleep, and it wasn’t even for her own husband.

“You wanted to have a romantic romp in the water, didn’t you? I’m leaving the opportunity to you, you can get cozy with him all you like, no one will find out, feel free to touch him however you want.” She then ran off to another room. Before Yang Tao’er could follow, the Red Demonic Spirit had already closed the door to her room.

Leaving Yang Tao’er alone in the courtyard.

“You millennium-old demon, always spouting nonsense.”

“If you don’t want to keep watch all night, then wake that drunk girl up.”

Yang Tao’er moved into Ye Chen’s room, where the guy lay stiff as a board, eyes shut, his entire face beaded with droplets of water from the steam.

This fellow was incredibly lucky, still alive despite everything. It seemed Heaven really didn’t want him dead yet.

She needed to send a pigeon message to her father—only he must return, for she couldn’t handle this mess by herself.

“What kind of poison is this, so viciously powerful?”

The night passed without trace, and as dawn broke slightly, Ye Chen stirred, opened his eyes, and found himself in a tub of murky yellowish water. What the heck, had he become a soup pigeon? It stank terribly.

He turned to see a maid propped against the table, not that white-clothed lady he hadn’t seen in a long while.

The sound of water startled the dozing Yang Tao’er, who glared over in surprise.

Ye Chen asked, “Are you planning to brew me into a medicinal wine?”

Yang Tao’er rubbed her eyes, stood up, and said, “Who would drink it if you were turned into medicinal wine?”

With that, she left the room.

The birds were chirping noisily, almost deafeningly.

Ye Chen stretched lazily, feeling much better. These past few days, he had been all weak and floppy, and he called out, “Can someone find me a pair of dry pants?”

“Don’t bother getting dressed!”

In a daze, Wan Danrong thought she heard Ye Chen’s voice and wondered if she had heard wrong.

“That wouldn’t be proper, it’s like being thrown into a pig cage.”

“Do you want a girl’s clothes?”

“Stop messing with me.”

“My godfather’s clothes, do you want them?”

“Do I look like an old man?”

“Then go streaking.”

She hadn’t misheard, but what was going on? Wan Danrong pinched herself hard to see if she was dreaming and ran out in a panic, without even slipping on her shoes.

As Yang Tao’er walked over, she said, “Girl, you finally woke up.”

Wan Danrong ignored her, heading straight for the room where the voice came from.

Just as Ye Chen was about to climb out of the bucket, the door flew open, and a figure leaped at him like a mother monkey, startling him thoroughly. He hadn’t expected such an emotional reaction—her clothes in disarray, her shoes unshod, she had thrown herself at him.

“Heh, don’t get too excited, my pants are still wet,” he chuckled.

At that moment, Wan Danrong burst into tears without saying a word.

“Hey, it’s okay, I’m still fine, aren’t I!” Ye Chen guessed she must have thought he had died, but since he was alive, she was overwhelmed.

It took a great effort to pull her hands away.

Yang Tao’er came back to sneak a peek at their tender moment.

Ye Chen said, “Maid, am I better now?” He was feeling much improved compared to the last two days.

“Dream on, I don’t have the power to heal you, it’s all up to my father when he comes back,” Yang Tao’er continued, “Whether you can be saved is up to him.”

“But I feel like I’ve come back to life.”

“It’s just your last hurrah, you could drop dead any second.”

“I really need to change my pants,” Ye Chen said as he took Wan Danrong’s hand off of him—her eyes swollen like fists, her body reeking of alcohol.

“Weren’t you supposed to have fallen off a cliff?” asked Wan Danrong.

“Can’t die that easily, Heaven thinks I still have things to take care of.”

“Nonsense, it was I who saved him. If it wasn’t for me, he would have been shattered to pieces from the fall and never have made it till now,” the Red Demonic Spirit called out from outside.

“Here are my father’s underpants,” Yang Tao’er tossed in.

“You’re really making me wear your father’s clothes?”

“Or would you prefer to wear mine?”

“Then I’ll just wear your father’s clothes. Can you get something to eat? I’m really hungry.” Having heard this, Wan Danrong left.

He changed his clothes and stepped out, but didn’t see the Crazy Divine Doctor, and asked, “Where’s the Crazy Divine Doctor?”

“He’s gone out,” said the Red Demonic Spirit.

“What, doesn’t he know I’m about to die?” Ye Chen murmured.

“The one who saved you last night wasn’t Divine Doctor Zhu; it was that girl.”

“Then where’s Divine Doctor Zhu?”

“Who knows, he said he went down the mountain.”

Yang Tao’er complained of a headache and said to Wan Danrong, “I’ve had a long night; prepare something delicious and wake me afterward.”

Wan Danrong, already overjoyed, hurried off to make breakfast.

Ye Chen had slept for several days, and for the first time felt that being alive truly felt good.

“Did the old man go to find mom?”

“Don’t talk nonsense,” Yang Tao’er called out from inside the room.

The Red Demonic Spirit offered a faint smile and said, “You should really thank that girl; if it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t have made it through last night.”

“Really?”

Yang Tao’er called out, “You two, hurry up and empty that bucket of water.”

The Red Demonic Spirit continued, “That girl didn’t sleep well all night, you know?”

“Then what did you do?”

“Of course, I slept. I don’t have time to stick around you like that. She said she could only relieve the poison, but to totally eliminate the poison in your body, we still have to wait for the divine physician to return.”

Ye Chen looked at his oversized shorts and said, “I need to change into a different pair, this is too awkward.”

“Last night, it really scared me out of my wits.”

Ye Chen hurriedly figured out a way to clear the tub of dirty yellow water.

Wan Danrong had already forgotten the events of the previous night, only remembering that she had drunk a little too much liquor.

“Yang Tao’er was watching all night, but where was Wan Danrong?”

“She got drunk?”

“What? Drunk?”

“She thought you were dead and cried all night, but little did she know, you came back in the middle of the night.”

“There was such a thing? That girl still has a conscience, not in vain have I treated her so well.” Ye Chen clutched his chest, which hurt less now. The days attacked by the poison had given him a sense of cloud-riding, it seemed to be the effect of that bowl of medicinal soup.

“So I don’t have a conscience?” Red Demonic Spirit asked back.

“You do, you have a conscience.”

“Don’t get too happy yet. The poison is not gone, and it may just be a brief resurgence before you quickly pass away,” the Red Demonic Spirit said, dousing his hopes.

Wan Danrong, having picked vegetables from the garden, returned. Her joy was written all over her face, and she asked, “What time did you come back last night?”

“In the middle of the night,” said the Red Demonic Spirit.

“Yun’er and the others haven’t found out that the monkey is still alive, have they?”

“How could she know? Everyone thinks he’s dead. They didn’t even look for his body; they just withdrew from Immortal City,” said the Red Demonic Spirit.

A ray of sunlight pierced through, passing through the willow branches and falling into the courtyard, making it less cold.

“Girl, that Eccentric Divine Doctor, he didn’t take advantage of you, did he?”

Rong’er glared back.

Red Demonic Spirit said, “Even if something did happen, it is none of your business.”

“I think Guo Yuyun will die of grief,” said Rong’er.

Red Demonic Spirit replied, “It would be funny if she ended up taking monastic vows.”

Ye Chen closed his eyes and fell asleep again.

It was unclear how much time passed, but then someone called out, “Tao’er, you can get up for breakfast now.”

Ye Chen woke up. The sun had climbed halfway up the mountain, and the mist in the hills was slowly dissipating.

Breakfast was ready.

The agreement between the Sky Demon Sect’s Tianye Demon and the Dragon Slaying Clan was that, once they wiped out the New City Sect, they would deliver them an antidote.

But their second-in-command, Silver Moon Fox, didn’t fully trust Longhun. Although Longhun did release them as part of the agreement, they later heard that Shangguan Heiqi and his people had also been released.

Silver Moon Fox said, “Will Longhun really give us the antidote when the time comes?”

An assistant behind asked, “What will we do if they don’t give us the antidote when the time comes?”

Po Ren, the third in command, said, “I heard that Shangguan Heiqi and his lot also took poison, and they even killed the Sect Leader of New City Sect. Now they’re going to meet up with the Dragon Slaying Clan, apparently planning to join forces to confront the world of immortals and demons.”

They also knew about Shangguan Heiqi’s release.

Tianye Demon said, “First, let’s exterminate this group of New City Sect people. After all, it was under agreement that they released us. If we go back on our word now, they certainly won’t give us the antidote.”

Silver Moon Fox nodded and said, “Eliminating them shouldn’t be a problem, but I really don’t know what kind of person Longhun is. If he reneges at the last moment and doesn’t give us the antidote, planning to control us and have us forever obey them, what then? How will we deal with them?”

Of course, Tianye Demon had considered this, and said, “It shouldn’t come to that. Just think, Shangguan Heiqi dares to cooperate with them despite having also been poisoned. Shangguan Heiqi is not foolish; he surely wouldn’t let them make monkeys out of them.”
