Chapter 718 - 718 704 Each Harboring Ulterior Motives
Chapter 718: Chapter 704: Each Harboring Ulterior Motives Chapter 718: Chapter 704: Each Harboring Ulterior Motives Then Gui Lang’s San Gui asked, “Boss, can we trust this guy Yuan Menhai?”
“Those fools would trust him,” scoffed Gui Lang.
“So should we attack together?” San Gui asked.
“We should, but let’s wait a bit after they begin their attack,” Gui Lang said.
San Gui pondered and said, “Good idea, if he draws the attention, our attack can be more effective.”
“Exactly,” he affirmed.
“Do you think Yuan Menhai has the same idea?”
Gui Lang’s icy laugh instantly answered him, “He thinks it is easy to find me? No way. If they don’t make a move, we won’t either. We’ll see who lasts longer.”
San Gui chuckled at his response.
Gui Lang instructed, “Gather all our people. Stop wasting energy on fighting mindlessly. Let just a few monsters hold them off. Everyone else should be prepared for the breakthrough.” He lacked faith, but in order to survive, he had to risk it all.
San Gui understood his point.
Gui Lang stressed, “You should realize, this is our only chance, forget the cost. Yuan Menhai was right, if we can’t take the initiative to break out from here before Tianle City’s lot arrives, we are done for.”
San Gui nodded continuously.
“Ignore cost or consequences, all that matters is getting out,” shouted Gui Lang.
“Understood, I’ll inform our people to get ready.”
All of a sudden, Winged Dragons and monsters started attacking in fury, like a desperate last attempt.
The damned Yuan Menhai had disappeared without leaving a trace, and suddenly, there was smoke everywhere.
Ye Chen was well aware of Yuan Menhai’s plans in the smoke. Whether they could be cleared or not depended on how well his men were holding up. If they succeeded, they stood a chance to wipe them out.
He hurriedly called Li Mo and Ming Qi over.
Ye Chen asked, “Yuan Menhai is all set for a final showdown.”
Li Mo nodded, “Then they must be planning to break out either through Shen Bai or Zhao Kun’s sides.”
Ming Qi added, “They may try to break through Zhao Kun’s side. He is relatively weaker, making it easier to break through.”
Li Mo agreed, “Ming Qi is right.”
However, Ye Chen said, “Right now, nothing’s certain. They might also break through from No. One Heroes’ side.”
“We absolutely cannot let them get away.” Li Mo declared.
“Most likely, Yuan Menhai will lead the breakout.” Ye Chen turned to his disciples, “You must find Yuan Menhai’s location and inform me immediately once you do.”
The disciples took off to carry out the task.
Yuan Menhai could be trusted to lead the pack without question.
“Yes, Yuan Menhai should certainly be the one to lead the breakout,” agreed Ming Qi.
Ye Chen paused and then said, “They won’t choose this side anymore. Ming Qi, you guard this side. If Yuan Menhai still chooses here, tell me, and I’ll be here in no time.”
Ming Qi nodded in acknowledgment.
Ye Chen believed they would most likely break through from Zhao Kun’s side. He said, “Li Mo, you go help Zhao Kun and his men.”
He couldn’t be sure where Yuan Menhai and Gui Lang would break out from. But with the smoke getting thicker, he firmly believed that they would act.
Ye Chen instructed, “We must trap them, until Kong Sha and his men arrive.”
By now, Yuan Menhai and Gui Lang’s men had exhausted their abilities.
Zun Yu and Ming Bei had initiated the attack on Shi Mu’s side. They knew it would be difficult to break free, but orders were orders. The only thing they could do was find a way to escape at the first opportunity.
Gunfire echoed non-stop, creating a sense of a besieged city.
Provoked, Zun Yu started discussing their strategy with Ming Bei, “We can’t put our faith in Yuan Menhai.”
Ming Bei turned to Zun Yu.
“I agree my words may be unpleasant. But in the current situation, we can’t trust anyone. Otherwise, we won’t even know how we die,” said Zun Yu, speaking his heart.
Although Ming Bei had followed Yuan Menhai for many years, he realized Zun Yu had a point. With their survival at stake, they couldn’t fully trust Yuan Menhai.
“We just do what we have to do. There is no need to push ourselves too hard. Once they find a chance to get away, we will do the same. Else if they escape and we die here, that will be disastrous.”
Ming Bei nodded slowly in agreement.
“I know you have followed Yuan Menhai for many years. But whether Yuan Menhai can be fully trusted, especially in this scenario, is doubtful. I don’t think he would risk his life for us. If given a chance, he would probably try to escape and wouldn’t care about our life or death,” explained Zun Yu.
“Okay, I will follow your orders.”
“Good, let’s work together and break out of here.”
“Okay, let’s work together and break free from here.”
The smoke was getting thicker, the opportunity was arising, and the final chance had already arrived.
A firework burst into the sky, the signal from Yuan Menhai signifying a joint attack was about to commence.
However, even though the signal was out, Gui Lang remained still. Yuan Menhai had intended to wait for them to strike first, to draw people to their side, then make his move. But Gui Lang was not foolish enough to fall into such a trap. He certainly was waiting for Yuan Menhai’s side to move first.
The heavy smoke could disperse at any moment, and Yuan Menhai, like an ant on a hot frying pan, was at a loss for what to do next.
Luo Hai exclaimed, “Damn that Gui Lang, trying to use us as bait. He expects us to go first and draw attention. What should we do?”
Yuan Menhai was furious, but his anger was futile. Two hours had passed and once the smoke cleared, everything would be over. If the people of Tianle City arrived, they would be caught in a death trap. “We can’t wait any longer, let’s take action,” he declared.
“So, we’re just playing into Gui Lang’s hands.”
“Let’s get on with it, they won’t stand by and let us die before they attack.” Yuan Menhai could only hold on to this thought.
Gui Lang was leisurely waiting. The signal had been sent a while ago.
San Gui remarked, “Boss is always right, no wonder Yuan Menhai wanted to use us. If we had believed him, we’d be done for.”
Gui Lang gave off a cold laugh, “Let’s see who can hold on the longest.”
“We can’t trust Yuan Menhai,” Er Gui questioned, “Is he not going to attack?”
“Unless he wants to die here.”
Before the sentence was finished, a battle broke out at Shen Bai’s side. Unable to bear it any longer, Yuan Menhai finally made his move.
Er Gui laughed while covering his mouth, “Boss, you called it. They couldn’t hold back and went first.”
Gui Lang gave a cold smirk, “Thinking he can use me, dream on.”
“So, what’s our plan?”
“Wait for now, let them draw out the most formidable ones. We’ll charge in then, but we can’t wait for all of them to be killed off. We won’t stand a chance if that happens.” Gui Lang was well aware of this balance.
Upon receiving news that Yuan Menhai had joined Shen Bai, Ye Chen immediately rounded up over twenty skilful men to reinforce the front line facing Yuan Menhai.
Yuan Menhai was so enraged that he was at a loss for words, yelling, “You little brat, are you purposely trying to get on my nerves!”
“And who are you to me, family? You think you can run away, dream on! Today marks your end!” Ye Chen said.
In an instant, a battle broke out at Shen Bai’s location.
Knowing that Yuan Menhai was trying to escape through Shen Bai’s side, Rong’er quickly said to Yun’er, “Yun’er, I must go to take revenge on Yuan Menhai.”
“What? You’re going for revenge and leaving these two creatures with me?” Yun’er asked.
“Indeed, I must avenge my parents.”
“I can’t control both on my own.”
“You will be fine. Just manage it for a bit and it’ll be okay. You are very capable!”
“Hey, if something happens, Monkey will be furious with me.”
“No way, Monkey adores you. How could he be mad at you?” Rong’er said excitedly.
“I really can’t handle both of them,” complained Yun’er.
Rong’er glanced behind her, drawing two followers closer, “Look, let these two help you. It’s not a one-man job.”
She turned and headed in the direction of the fiercest battle.
“You be careful. If something really happens, Monkey will kill me.” Yun’er urged while busy holding off enemies.
Rong’er said, “Rest assured, the Red Demonic Spirit is with me.”
Her thirst for revenge was too strong to be quelled.
Yun’er shouted two of their co-fighters at the back to come help her, “Hurry up, I’ll tell you how to control them.”
The two quickly came to her assistance.
After fighting for an hour, there was still no sign of activity from Gui Lang’s side. Yuan Menhai was so furious that he wanted to curse openly.
“This traitor, so damn composed. He is digging his own grave,” Yuan Menhai exclaimed angrily.
“I knew this guy was up to no good. Should I go and urge him into action?” suggested Luo Hai.
“No need, even if you ask him, he won’t listen. He will attack unless he doesn’t want to leave here.” Yuan Menhai knew that Gui Lang merely wanted to attract more people to his side.
Yuan Menhai continued, “You need to let Zun Yu and his men know to stop their feigned attack and come back to help. We need to find a way to break out from here together.” After their hour-long battle and encountering Ye Chen, they were evidently short on manpower.
Luo Hai quickly sent two of their comrades to pass on the message.
San Gui reported to Gui Lang, “Boss, everyone has been drawn out. Even the Sect Leader of the New City Sect has gone over.”
“Good, that’s how it should be. The more people we draw out, the more favourable it is for us.” Gui Lang was getting excited.
“Should we wait a bit more?”
“No more waiting. If we continue to wait, Yuan Menhai will explode. If they really get killed off by that brat, we’re finished as well,” Gui Lang was fully aware of this.
San Gui nodded.
Gui Lang ordered, “All right then, go prepare. We must rally all our forces and make a breakthrough at Zhao Kun’s side, no matter the cost.”
