Chapter 579 - 579 565 The Sneaky and Dishonest Person
Chapter 579: Chapter 565: The Sneaky and Dishonest Person Chapter 579: Chapter 565: The Sneaky and Dishonest Person Wan Danrong was filled with exhilaration, bounding around, her steps echoing the sweetness of first love as she returned to the courtyard.
Yi Mei knew that for all the days Ye Chen had been gone, she had been looking downcast. She almost couldn’t believe it, unsure of what had happened.
All she knew was that a lot of unpleasant things had happened today. She asked, laughing, “Miss, have you found someone you fancy today? Why are you so cheerful all of a sudden?”
“Nonsense, go hurry up and pour me some tea,” Wan Danrong demanded loudly.
Yi Mei didn’t know that Ye Chen had returned. She countered, “Ye Chen disappeared and you’ve been sulking for days, like a pile of cow dung. It’s as if your lover died. Today you’re suddenly so happy, I’m starting to think you have been possessed.”
“Your words are so unpleasant, a pile of cow dung and a dead lover, who on earth taught you these?”
“I am happy to see you like this and I hope you stay happy. But I really don’t know how else to describe your state these past days.”
Wan Danrong then said, “I found him, he was outside the city gate.”
“Found him? Outside the city gate?” Yi Mei was so astonished it was as if she had turned into a fool.
“He was knocked unconscious and dumped outside the city gate and was stopped by the city guards from entering. He wanted to send a message to me to meet him at the city gate but it was intercepted by someone else. He’s been stuck outside for some days.”
Yi Mei almost couldn’t believe it and asked, “Who did this?”
“Anyone could guess even with their eyes closed.”
“You’re saying it was Ding Yunjie?”
“Who else but him? Only he has such a motive. Last time, Ye Chen helped me defeat him, making him lose face. He doesn’t like Ye Chen, so he could only resort to such methods. However, I honestly didn’t expect he would do something like this.”
Yi Mei found it hard to believe, “No way, Ding Yunjie is not that kind of person. How can he be so bold?”
“It must be that sneak thief Wang Dong who taught him. Who else besides him? I am increasingly disliking Ding Yunjie. How could he do such a thing? It’s so infuriating!” Wan Danrong expression turned serious.
“If Ye Chen is outside the city, how did you find out?”
“Do you know who saved my stepmother today?”
“Don’t tell me it was Ye Chen.”
“Yes, it was him. If it weren’t for his excellent martial arts, my stepmother would have been abducted. He originally planned to leave Wanshou City today, but on his way, he happened to encounter the besieged Zhong Yao. So he stepped forward to rescue him and in turn, saved my stepmother.”
“So the person who saved her life was him?” She had heard someone saved Feng Niang but didn’t know who it was.
“Yes, I didn’t know it either. Tonight, when my father and I went to visit my stepmother, I learned that Ye Chen had saved them.” Wan Danrong was pondering what the connection could be between that damned monkey and Feng Niang.
“No wonder you’re so cheerful.” At this point, Yi Mei completely understood.
There was obviously more to what was said.
Wan Danrong was indignant, “What do you mean, ‘No wonder you’re so cheerful’? What are you implying? Do you think I have feelings for him?” She had become anxious and wanted to rebut.
Yi Mei quickly said, “No, not at all, I just think… You should be happy. Your master is back and he can continue teaching you martial arts. How can you not be elated?” Although this was what she said, she had another idea in mind.
Wan Danrong wanted to berate her but couldn’t make a good argument. The more she tried to explain, the less clear it became. She could only fume.
“I’ll make you a nice cup of tea.”
“No need, I want to take a wash,” Wan Danrong said.
“Okay, I’ll go get hot water ready for you.” Yi Mei departed swiftly.
Wan Danrong fell silent, pausing to catch her breath as she considered something.
Yi Mei quickly asked the maidservants to prepare things before returning. “I heard,” she said, “that your stepmother and him are friends.”
“I don’t know what kind of evil friends.”
Yi Mei laughed a little and continued, “Your stepmother brought him back without uttering a word and sent him directly into her own room. She seemed very worried and didn’t care that people might say she’s already married. She quickly brought the divine doctor from the Wastelands. I think their relationship is special.” By now, she had already heard plenty of rumors.
“Special? Feng Niang is already my father’s woman.”
“That’s true, what else could happen? She’s already married. It’s just that I’m a little puzzled how Ye Chen became friends with her.”
“If you’re so interested, you should ask her yourself.”
“What do I care? I’m just making conversation and reminding you,” Yi Mei said.
Wan Danrong glanced at her coldly and pouted.
“It’s good that he is back. You don’t need to be so frantic now, nor do you need to lose yourself like you did. These past few days we didn’t know how to comfort you.”
Wan Danrong explained, “I was just afraid that I would be left in the lurch, without anyone to practice martial arts with.”
“Of course, who doesn’t know that,” Yi Mei said, deliberately.
Wan Danrong snorted, not knowing what else to say. Yet, she was extremely joyful, as if she had regained something precious that had been lost.
“There needs to be a thorough restructuring of the Wan Residence. The fact that such events can occur, causing a major commotion and requiring such a display of force – it’s quite startling.”
“Not just you, I am equally startled. They have the city guards aligned with their plans; anyone can enter, except for him. My messages to him didn’t get through, and we didn’t know what was happening. Think about it, who could pull off something like this?”
“These people have indeed gone too far. But in a way, it’s understandable. Ding Yun Jie likes you, and that’s why he’s doing all this. He’s afraid you might run off with someone else. ”
“What are you talking about? Run off with someone else? Ding Yun Jie has indeed grown too bold. This is the type of behavior expected from a child, not an adult. If he continues indulging such behavior, it’ll lead to chaos. Isn’t he old enough to discern what should and shouldn’t be done?”
“What are you planning to do? Scold them?”
“You suggest we let them be?”
“I think we have to handle this slowly.”
“And you think we can tread slowly on this issue? They didn’t even want me to be aware of what was going on.”
“Oh dear, he might have been in a rush, you rejected him and he didn’t want Ye Chen to stay here anymore. It can be understood.”
“So he can just act recklessly, ignoring the consequences?”
“Well, I truly don’t know anymore what to say in his defense.”
“Honestly, I wonder how long they have been planning this! How could such events happen in the Wan Residence!” Wan Danrong thought back to the times she’s been seeking answers and enduring hardships. Ye Chen has been prowling around the city outskirts for so long. This spurred her anger, if it wasn’t for Ye Chen telling her to keep it down, she would definitely confront Ding Shi.
The maidservant was already calling, “The water is ready.”
“This is just too much, treating me like a monkey.” Wan Danrong stood up, heading inside.
She vanished without a trace all night.
Ye Chen finally managed to get a good night’s sleep.
The impatient maidservant outside was again urging him, shouting, “You, the laborer, get up quickly. We’ve done half the tasks already. Are you planning to wait until we finish everything to get up and start your labor?”
Clearly she refers to what happened the previous night.
Ye Chen shouted back, “Quiet down! I’ve heard you!”
“You think you can live like a lord here? We all work to make a living. If you don’t plan to work, wait until you find a rich woman. Even if you did find one, I doubt she’d fall for a drunkard like you.”
The words indeed were hurtful. Ye Chen quickly got up, pushing open the room’s door. If he didn’t get up soon, she’d surely scold him incessantly.
“The water in the tank hasn’t been fetched yet.”
Ye Chen quickly covered his nose, saying: “No, I teach martial arts, any kind of martial arts.” Apparently, teaching martial arts seemed more enjoyable.
“Then get up quickly and eat your meal.”
“Alright, I’m eating. How can a person not do some work? Isn’t living supposed to be about working?” Ye Chen’s eyes were half-closed, still yawning unconsciously.
“We’re all busy. Don’t blame anyone. No one is superfluous here. Even though Rong’er has provided you with this courtyard, it’s not for you to be a free-loader. Do you feel good about free-loading?”
“I don’t feel good, okay? I’m up already. Can you be kind and let me enjoy a little peace while I eat? ”
“The meal is ready; it’s in the pavilion.”
“Understood.”
The girl finally closed her mouth. She would surely become a formidable character in the future.
“Just take it easy and enjoy your peace for a while. If you truly wish to be served, aim for a good family to be reborn into in your next life.”
Ye Chen ignored her.
The surroundings became quiet. The rhythmical sweeping sound, the rustling of leaves, everything fell silent.
Wan Danrong angrily stormed into Ding Yunjie’s courtyard. Only Ding Yunjie was present. She had actually intended to meet Wang Dong; she was certain that it wasn’t Ding Yunjie who had the audacity to hatch this plan, rather it was Wang Dong’s idea.
Entering she demanded, “Where’s Wang Dong?”
Ding Yunjie had no idea about what had happened and assumed Wang Dong must have done something wrong. He replied, “He’s out. Did Wang Dong do something bad?”
“How could you possibly not know whether Wang Dong did anything bad or not.” Wan Danrong turned on him instantly.
“Is it something I did wrong?” Ding Yunjie was still trying to ease the tension with Wan Danrong after Ye Chen’s departure.
Seeing that Wang Dong wasn’t there, Wan Danrong turned her anger onto Ding Yunjie, saying, “Don’t think that you can keep your actions against Ye Chen a secret. If you don’t want people to know something, you shouldn’t have done it in the first place. You should commit less of these transgressions.”
Ding Yunjie was left speechless by her accusations, wondering how she knew, and where their plan had gone wrong.
Wan Danrong, fuming with anger, stormed off, declaring, “Don’t involve yourself with such petty thieves anymore, sooner or later you’ll become one too.”
Wan Danrong left, her eyes blazing with anger.
Ding Yunjie realized she must have found out. Otherwise, Wan Danrong wouldn’t have said those things. He didn’t dare to respond and was stunned for the longest time, unable to figure out what went wrong.
