Super God Grandmaster -
Chapter 572 - 572 558
Chapter 572: 558 Chapter 572: 558 Ye Chen wandered into the courtyard where the servants were gathered. There were already four people present, the smell of Dog Meat could be perceived right from the entrance. A few lanterns brightened the modest-sized courtyard that was perfect for hosting an al fresco dining session, considered perfect for consuming dog meat.
Ye Chen was feeling excited. All of the servants knew about his relationship with Wan Danrong, particularly after she defeated Ding Yunjie, everyone in the Wan Residence became aware of their relationship.
They politely greeted him, calling him Master Ye.
He felt a bit embarrassed. Whenever there was good food and there were leftovers, he would ensure it was distributed to others.
“Get over here! It’s almost ready to serve!” Ah Si called out from the side.
Three jars of wine were already on the table.
Ye Chen chuckled, “Are you planning to get drunk tonight?”
“Of course! That’s exactly the plan.” Ah San replied.
“Great, that’s simply perfect! I’ve been pining to join you and was just feeling too shy to bring it up,” Ye Chen said.
“Ha! Just speak up, we all have the same taste,” they replied.
At least twenty pounds of dog meat had been boiled into a large pot with all kinds of seasonings added. The aroma of the wine was so strong that it was already intoxicating.
Ah Si said,”Master Ye, you are so good at martial arts, you need to teach us a few moves.”
Ye Chen, already having forgotten other worries, readily agreed, “Sure, I can give you a few pointers anytime.”
Ah Si became excited, “These are your own words. Don’t forget about them later.”
“I won’t.”
Ah Si had already selected the best-positioned stove, with a slow fire beneath it, the slow simmering intensified the savory aroma.
Ah San chimed in, “Master Ye, you are specially appointed by the young miss. We couldn’t possibly trouble you.”
Ye Chen replied confidently, “Rest assured. It’s just a damsel, I’ll have a chance to instruct you all.”
“We truly appreciate it! It only took you three days to defeat Ding Yunjie with your martial arts. We don’t wish to be martial arts experts, but a few self-defence moves would be helpful during an emergency.”
Ye Chen asked, “Is the food ready yet?”, He couldn’t hold back his impatience.
“It’s ready. Let’s remove the lid of the pot and start with some wine,” Ah San rushed to respond.
Ye Chen smelled the aromatic meat and said, “You guys seem to be planning on having everyone drunk tonight. If get drunk, I might go crazy. You’ll have to carry me back then.”
Ah San laughed, “That’s no issue, it’s just next door. I assure you, we’ll get you back.” With these words, he opened a jar of wine.
Ye Chen leaned forward and sniffed, expressing his admiration,”This is really good wine.”
“Hehe, we know you like drinking. We spent a lot of effort to get this.”
“Then, let’s fill it up,” Ye Chen called out.
Ah San promptly served him, urging him, “Try it.”
“You guys are too good to me, I’m starting to like this place more and more. It would be nice if I could spend my entire life here.”
Ah San laughed, “Of course, you’ll be here for life. The young miss thinks highly of you and admires you so much. And your martial arts are great. We all like you.”
Ye Chen responded, “Not everyone thinks like you guys do. Some people don’t like my presence here. They think I’m getting in their way.”
Ah San asked immediately, “Who said that?”
“Ding Yunjie,” Ye Chen replied while picking up his chopsticks, adding, “I’m about to start eating.”
“Alright, go ahead! This dog we’ve got tonight is absolutely top-notch. We had to travel several miles to get it,” Ah San said.
“Don’t mind me, I won’t hold back. You guys should start eating as well. Whenever possible, we should eat together more often.”
Ah Si interjected from the other side, “Ding Yunjie is just jealous of you. He used to be the closest to the young miss and taught her martial arts. Once you came, you took his place.”
Ah San listened and scoffed, “That guy! He dares to teach martial arts to the young miss! Our Master Ye helped the young miss defeat him within just three days. He’s got some nerve to talk! He should hurry back and learn more from his daddy!”
“Let’s not talk about that now. Tonight, we only eat meat.”
“Quickly, let’s drink some good wine. I will get another round for you.” Ah San personally served him.
“How can I always come here to sponge off your food and drink?”
“Don’t ever say that again. We’re all together for enjoyment, it’s one of life’s greatest pleasures.”
Ah Si said, “If you really feel bad about it, you can teach us a few more moves.”
Ye Chen chuckled and said forgetfully, “Sure, we can talk about it.”
“The best days are still ahead. We need to eat well. Only this is left in life.”
Wang Dong, excitedly, rushed to find Ding Yunjie and said, “Yun Jie, we’re sure to succeed tonight.”
“Are you sure?” Ding Yunjie was growing impatient with the waiting.
“Absolutely, they are drinking at Ah San’s place, they’ll surely be heavily drunk tonight.”
At this point, Wang Dong had already bribed Ah San with silver. The wine and dog meat served tonight were specially prepared by him with the intention of getting Ye Chen thoroughly drunk.
“What about the horse car?”
“It’s ready, it’s in the backyard. Ah San will escort him out, he won’t take him back to the yard, he will deliver him directly to us. Once we get him in the horse car, we can take care of everything else.”
Ding Yunjie, already revved up, asked, “There won’t be any mistakes, will there?”
“Don’t worry. Ah San can be trusted. If he wants to continue staying at the Wan Residence, he needs to maintain a good relationship with us.”
Ding Yunjie nodded, then asked, “What about the people at the city gate?”
“Rest assured, it’s all taken care of. They will see him as a beggar, they won’t let him in.”
“Good, make sure he isn’t seen.”
“Don’t worry, no one will see him. The backyard is deserted at midnight, nobody would ever notice.”
“Hurry then.”
The dog meat in the pot was more than half gone. Two out of the three jars of wine had already been emptied, and the effects of the alcohol were gradually kicking in. People were getting drunk—some to the point of babbling nonsense.
None of the drinkers could stand steady, talking about this and that, about happenings in Wanshou City and amusing anecdotes from the Wan Residence. It seemed that Ye Chen, having been provoked by Wan Danrong that evening, had also lost his restraint. Particularly, Ah San kept pushing bowl after bowl onto him until he had lost track of how much he’d drunk.
Unaware of the passing of time, it was midnight. Two of the servants had excused themselves and left.
Ye Chen said, “That’s enough for tonight. I’ll drink with you again next time.”
“Good, remember, you have to teach us martial arts,” Ah Si replied.
Ye Chen laughed, “Don’t worry, I will definitely teach you martial arts. Just relax.” He tried to stand up, but staggered. Only then did he realize he was too drunk to stay on his feet and was feeling delirious.
Ah Si glanced at Ah San, “I’ll take him back.”
But Ah San immediately took over, saying, “I’ll take him back, you clean up here.”
Reluctantly, Ah Si nodded, and added, “Be careful.”
“Relax. This is the Wan Residence. What could possibly go wrong?”
Ye Chen, now drunkenly swaying and mumbling gibberish, was escorted out of the courtyard by Ah San. To get to his own yard, they still had to walk a long distance.
From the dark, a man darted out. It was Wang Dong.
Ah San glanced around, confirmed that no one was nearby. Ye Chen was still rambling, and seemed not to know his directions, couldn’t even tell who was with him.
Wang Dong rushed up, “Hurry up, go to the back door.”
Ah San nodded, headed to the back door with Wang Dong, and dragged the heavily drunken Ye Chen out of the back yard. Ding Yunjie, who was waiting there with a horse car, tossed the drunken man into the car. Ye Chen fell inside, perhaps thinking it was a bed.
Worried that Ah San would mess things up, Wang Dong gave him detailed instructions again and handed him a bag of silver taels. Ah San, thrilled with the payment, took the money and hurried off. He cared little about whether the two men were planning to kill or mutilate Ye Chen. He was now wealthier than he could have been in months.
The horse car made its slow progress towards the city gate.
Ye Chen slowly opened his eyes. The sun was already high in the sky. He touched his throbbing forehead, looked around, “Where am I? How did I end up here?” He was by a river. Why wasn’t he in the Wan Residence?
He was clearly in the wilderness. He struggled to recall what had happened last night. Other than eating dog meat, he had no memory of the rest. He wasn’t in Wan Residence. He found out from some herding kids walking towards him that he was outside Wanshou City. How did he end up outside Wanshou City? This was unbelievable.
Ye Chen turned around, planning to go back to Wanshou City. But once he reached the city gate, he was stopped.
A city guard waved his hand, “Move along, drunkard.”
“What? I’m not a drunkard. I’m from Wan Residence.”
“You’re from Wan Residence, and I’m the Third Demon,” retorted the city guard.
“Why can’t I enter?” Ye Chen saw some people going in.
“Wanshou City is on high alert. All unrelated persons, especially drunkards or beggars, are not allowed to enter, in case they’re imposters from No. One Heroes.”
“What?! But I really am from Wan Residence. Can’t you make an exception and let them know at Wan Residence that a man named Ye Chen is at the city gate and ask them to come get me?” Ye Chen pleaded.
“Get lost, go away, don’t hinder me!” The city guard, who had previously taken silver from Wang Dong, ordered. “Move along now or else I won’t be so polite any more.” There were four or five men behind him, backing him up.
Ye Chen had no choice but to back off. He was becoming more puzzled: how did he end up outside the city? Why was he being referred to as a drunkard? Had someone plotted against him? He immediately thought of Ding Yunjie. Could it be that he had planned this with those servants? Otherwise, why would he find himself outside the city? It didn’t make any sense.
Watching some beggars come and go freely, Ye Chen’s confusion deepened even more.
