Chapter 479 - 479 465 Wasteland City
Chapter 479: Chapter 465: Wasteland City Chapter 479: Chapter 465: Wasteland City The day had turned into night; yellow sand filled the sky, drifting like clouds of mist, giving a feeling as if one was ascending to immortality.
All was quiet around.
Jiang Zhuge must safely escort these people back to Wasteland City. He did not wish to confront Gua Zhengnie and his ilk just yet. It would not be advantageous for him, as their group was the only remaining force of the New City Sect against the Third Demon.
He had heard that Gua Zhengnie didn’t think much of Wasteland City, but he understood its importance. Though Wasteland City had turned into a wasteland zone, it was still the most sacred place in the Wastelands.
Can Mo had already come over.
Jiang Zhuge spoke, “Well, we shall enter the Wastelands tomorrow. However, I don’t know if Gua Zhengnie and his group will attempt to obstruct us.”
Someone listening retorted, “Why fear him? We crushed them in our last encounter, making them retreat like scared dogs. They were hiding, god knows where!”
“Don’t underestimate them,” he cautioned. “After all, it’s not two months ago anymore. The fact that Gua Zhengnie and Zun Yu joined forces and captured Sky Domain City and Tianle City in a short time is sufficient proof.”
Another person interjected, “That’s only because Shen Li led the Sky Domain City’s people out to deal with us. Otherwise, they could never have taken it.”
“That’s a moot point now. They were able to seize Tianle City and Sky Domain City, proving they do possess some strength. According to the Sect Leader’s intentions, we aren’t in a hurry to engage them. We don’t quite know the present situation in the Wastelands,” someone else added.
Kong Sha said, “We may want to avoid confrontation, but it seems inevitable. Sooner or later, we’ll have to go to war.”
Jiang Zhuge nodded in agreement, “Yes, perhaps it’s unavoidable. However, I don’t wish to wage war against them too soon. I intend to dodge them for the time being and return to Wasteland City first.”
“Return to Wasteland City? But Wasteland City is a wasteland zone now,” Kong Sha pointed out.
“Yes, Wasteland City is a wasteland zone. Gua Zhengnie and his group may scorn it, but it will always be the most sacred place in the Wastelands,” said Jiang Zhuge defiantly.
Another person asked, “What if Gua Zhengnie attacks Wasteland City?”
“Then we would have no option but to face them head-on. Let them come, we won’t hold back our words,” Jiang Zhuge looked at Can Mo and asked, “Can Mo, what do you think?”
Can Mo backed Jiang Zhuge’s decision, “Yes, we don’t know the current state of affairs in the Wastelands. It’s better not to rush into a war with them. Avoiding them and returning to Wasteland City first does seem like a good option.”
“Hmm, I reckon that Gua Zhengnie won’t let us enter easily. We must make some preparations. My goal is simple, to refrain from waging war for now. If they indeed start a war, we’ll fight them in Wasteland City,” Jiang Zhuge quickly explained his plan. He felt that returning to Wasteland City was the key.
It would already be a victory as long as the people of the Wastelands knew that the New City Sect had returned to Wasteland City.
They had defeated the Mutant Winged Dragon, something the people of the Wastelands should also be aware of.
Jiang Zhuge added, “As long as we return to Wasteland City, all of the Wastelands’ people will become aware of our return. That would be our first victory.”
Kong Sha seemed perplexed, “This counts as a victory?”
But Can Mo said, “Yes, it does. At least, it signifies that the New City Sect has returned. More importantly, we have triumphed over the Dragon Slaying Clan. We have not returned in defeat.”
Jiang Zhuge nodded and affirmed, “Exactly, we have defeated the Dragon Slaying Clan in a fair and square manner and then returned to Wasteland City.”
Kong Sha shook his head and said, “I find it hard to comprehend. How could returning to a wasteland zone count as a victory? However, I do trust your words. Whatever the plan, just say it, and I will follow.”
Jiang Zhuge gave a faint smile.
The plan was as such – to find a way to dodge the enemy and return to Wasteland City.
Jiang Zhuge quickly outlined his plan.
He wanted to ensure that their whereabouts remained unknown to others, thereby avoiding locations where Gua Zhengnie’s people might appear.
Zun Yu and Kuang Shen led their men towards the east. They searched for an entire day but found no traces of the New City Sect.
Gui Lang also took a group of people south and found nothing, returning in anger to Gua Zhengnie.
Gui Lang cursed, “Who the hell provided the intel? I’ve been searching non-stop for two days and haven’t come across a single person.”
Kuang Shen, who wasn’t known for his patience, was also ranting furiously.
However, they heard that the New City Sect people had already entered the Wastelands.
This was a false piece of information, deliberately spread by Jiang Zhuge to distract the Third Demon’s people.
“Nonsense, we searched an entire day and saw no traces. How could they have entered?” Gui Lang retorted angrily.
One of the disciples wondered, “Could they have a secret route?”
“A hidden passage? And wouldn’t we know of it?” Gui Lang kicked the disciple to the ground.
Zun Yu pondered, “Could it be that the New City Sect knew we were moving against them and prepared in advance to avoid a direct confrontation?”
Gua Zhengnie nodded and agreed, “That’s likely.”
But Gui Lang objected, “They think they can just avoid us?”
Zun Yu said: “If they really do come in, we still have to make long-term plans.”
Kuang Shen said: “If they come in, they definitely need to choose a foothold, they can’t just keep hiding just because they don’t want to start a war with us.”
This statement reminded Gua Zhengnie, who said: “Do you reckon they’ll go back to Wasteland City?”
“Besides there, where else could they go?”
Gui Lang said: “If they really plan to return to Wasteland City, we might as well let them in. When the time comes, we can directly attack Wasteland City. Wasteland City has already become a deserted place, many city walls are no longer there, it’s just a broken city with no protective function, we can surround them directly.”
Zun Yu said: “No way, aren’t they just naive to run back to Wasteland City? There’s nothing left in Wasteland City, what’s the purpose behind going back to Wasteland City.”
Gua Zhengnie quickly called in several subordinates and immediately ordered: “You go to Wasteland City and find out if the people of New City Sect have returned to Wasteland City.”
Those subordinates hearing this, quickly left.
“Since they have come in, we should prepare for a great battle, we can’t be like before, since the man named Ye Chen hasn’t returned yet, we can take advantage to attack when they still can’t stand firm, we can’t let them gain ground.” Kuang Shen said.
Gui Lang felt that Kuang Shen was right, adding: “That’s right, we can’t let them get their footing, we must get ready to attack them at any time. We must let the people of Wasteland City know that anyone who dares to join the New City Sect is our enemy.”
Gua Zhengnie looked at Zun Yu and asked: “Zun Yu, what do you think?”
The second-in-command, Zun Yu said: “Since we can’t stop them, they have come in, they will become our adversaries sooner or later, we might as well strike them down while they are not yet on their feet.”
“Now we are the ones on the rise, having taken Sky Domain City and Tianle City, we have two major strongholds, we aren’t afraid of them, we are more secure. The New City Sect is not what it was yesterday, Wei Sisan is already dead, although they defeated the Mutant Winged Dragon, more than two-thirds of them have died, which is definitely in our favour.” Kuang Shen said.
Gua Zhengnie nodded, saying: “Then there’s nothing more to be said, everyone prepare. If they really return to Wasteland City, we will attack Wasteland City.”
“Great, I’ll go and prepare.” Gui Lang was already very excited.
Jiang Zhuge, using truths and lies, managed to avoid Gua Zhengnie and the others, completely obscuring his true route, causing Gua Zhengnie and his men to lose their bearings. They quickly entered the Central Plains and began to move towards Wasteland City.
Ye Chen, currently guiding Ling’er, has been following Guo Mingyu’s instructions.
They have been attempting for nearly a month, each setback leaving Ling’er increasingly despondent. She has lost all hope and no longer wishes to continue searching– each attempt only annoys her.
Ye Chen doesn’t know how to comfort her, he knows her despair, he can truly empathize.
He knows that accepting all of this requires time.
That night, rain suddenly began to fall. Wei Yiling, who had just finished dinner, groaned: “I won’t search anymore.” It seemed that she could no longer endure the blows; each time she went to see a spiritual healer in high spirits, she returned with only disappointment. This kind of blow was indeed tough to withstand.
Ye Chen and Mu Wanlan both stayed quiet.
Ling’er further insisted: “The healers I was supposed to find, I have sought. I’ve seen no fewer than thirty healers and if there was a solution, I would’ve found it already. I don’t want to search anymore.”
Ye Chen could only say: “Mhmm, we’ll do as you say; no more searching.” He didn’t want Ling’er to be unhappy.
Ling’er looked at Ye Chen: “Really, I don’t want to search anymore.” It seemed that she wouldn’t endure this disappointment.
“Then we can have fun, walk around, how about that?”
“I want to go back to my room.” Ling’er asked for Mu Wanlan’s assistance.
Ye Chen took a deep breath, he was somewhat at a loss about what to do.
The rain outside hadn’t ceased. Wei Yiling looked at the street, which had suddenly fallen silent. It had never been so quiet before.
Seems like she could only sit in this wheelchair for her whole life. She didn’t deny it, but rather she didn’t want to hold Ye Chen back any longer. That would only make her feel selfish, she couldn’t be like that.
She needed to genuinely think about her future life.
The rain wouldn’t stop, suddenly everything became unusually quiet.
All of a sudden, there was a knock on the door. Ye Chen felt that he should have a proper talk with the person behind it.
“The door is not latched, come in.” Ling’er said.
Ye Chen pushed the door open and saw Ling’er sitting alone by the window, watching the falling rain, he asked affectionately: “Aren’t you cold?”
“It’s not cold.” Ling’er had become very quiet at that moment.
Ye Chen closed the door to the room again.
He sat on a chair by the table.
In fact, both of them knew in their hearts that they should have a genuine conversation with each other.
