Chapter 457 - 457 443 The Death of Qiao Fanfeng
Chapter 457: Chapter 443: The Death of Qiao Fanfeng Chapter 457: Chapter 443: The Death of Qiao Fanfeng “What about you?” the Red Demonic Spirit asked.
“I got us into this, you should leave. I can handle this alone.” Ye Chen said.
“You’re insane.” If the Red Demonic Spirit fled, it wouldn’t be long before Ye Chen was completely burned to char. Its presence was still resisting the flames, able to hold off the heat for a little while longer.
“Damn it, this ungrateful wretch, does he truly wish to die! I’ll grant his wish.” The energy in the Mutant Winged Dragon’s Dragon Slayer Sword was continuously strengthening.
Ye Chen and the Red Demonic Spirit were about to be burned to ash.
Boom, boom… the enormous energy was continuously attacking. The kind-hearted Defense Tower, seemingly sensing danger to Ye Chen, released an energy wave to assist him. Ye Chen, unexpectedly aided by this surge in power, narrowly escaped death.
However, Gao Ba noticed this. How could he let the energy emanating from the Defense Tower interfere? At that point, the Dragon Slaying Array had already been damaged, and three of their adversaries were barely hanging on.
Immediately, he and Sheng Kong attacked the Defense Tower. Facing the powerful energy of the Black Demonic Spirit, the Defense Tower was suddenly hit and had no choice but to redirect its energy to deal with Gao Ba and Sheng Kong.
Because of this switch, Guo Mingyu and Qiao Fanfeng were closing in.
Taking advantage of Ye Chen and the Mutant Winged Dragon’s entanglement, Guo Mingyu launched a wave of energy. The Mutant Winged Dragon deflected Guo Mingyu’s attack with a single palm strike.
Qiao Fanfeng immediately released an attack of his own.
Unsure what happened, the Mutant Winged Dragon released a defensive burst of energy but failed to block it. Perhaps his earlier consecutive attacks had exhausted him, and at this moment Ye Chen was holding him off without letting him rest, weakening him further.
An energy wave was unleashed to repel Ye Chen, who fell into the waste zone. However, the Mutant Winged Dragon failed to block Qiao Fanfeng’s blow, which hit the dragon’s arm, causing him to drop the Dragon Slayer Sword. Even Qiao Fanfeng was a little surprised by his impactful success.
The Mutant Winged Dragon was momentarily stunned.
Seeing this, Guo Mingyu sensed an opportunity and directed a wave of energy towards the Mutant Winged Dragon, cutting off his chance to retrieve the sword. Qiao Fanfeng took the opportunity to seize the Dragon Slayer Sword, gripping it tightly in his hands.
The Mutant Winged Dragon flashed to one side, avoiding Guo Mingyu, and chased after Qiao Fanfeng.
Qiao Fanfeng turned and swung his sword, aiming to release the power within the Dragon Slayer Sword to kill the Mutant Winged Dragon.
However, much to his surprise, the sword did not release any energy. Instead, the Mutant Winged Dragon’s palm pierced through Qiao Fanfeng’s chest, suggesting the Mutant Winged Dragon had known all along. Although Qiao Fanfeng was holding the Dragon Slayer Sword, he hadn’t merged with it, meaning he wasn’t the Sword’s true master.
Qiao Fanfeng fell right there and then, and the Sword returned to the hands of the Mutant Winged Dragon.
Ye Chen shot out from the waste zone. Guo Mingyu stood dumbstruck at that moment, looking at Qiao Fanfeng who had fallen to the ground.
The Mutant Winged Dragon continued to release the tremendous power within the Dragon Slayer Sword. Ye Chen didn’t have time to worry about Qiao Fanfeng who lay on the ground, and hurriedly came to face the raging Mutant Winged Dragon.
The Mutant Winged Dragon was overjoyed. Now that Qiao Fanfeng was dead, the Defense Tower was the only obstacle left. No one could stop him now.
But at this moment, his power had gradually decreased after half a day’s fight. If he wanted to break the Defense Tower it wouldn’t be easy. Even if he did get the opportunity, there was a good chance he would be injured, rendering the victory rather hollow. Moreover, Evil King Sheng Kong and Demon King Gao Ba were also nearly at their limit.
He had ample time, Qiao Fanfeng was dead, the Dragon Slaying Array was broken, and by tomorrow, once his power was restored, breaking the Defense Tower would be easy. Then, no one would be able to stop him.
The Mutant Winged Dragon made a call: “We retreat.”
Ye Chen wanted to fight for another 300 rounds, but he knew he was unlikely to win.
Inside the Books and Records Hall of the Yu Yun Library, she was not distracted by the battles outside and continued to search intensely.
Suddenly she called out: “Quick, come here, I think I found it.”
He Xibai thought she was joking; this young lady sometimes played these tricks to prevent them from feeling too bored.
“No way, you’ve been searching for so many days, finding no clues. How is it possible you found it?” He Xibai muttered.
Yu Yun had found the old, nearly yellow, and rotten books under a cabinet. Some days ago, she hadn’t noticed that there was a box under the same cabinet.
“Dragon Slaying Sword Origin Record” was written on it.
Yu Yun blew the dust off the cover and gave a long-concealed smile, as if she had unearthed a precious treasure.
Seeing Yu Yun’s possessed-like state, He Xibai believed she might have truly discovered something.
“There really are records of the Dragon Slayer Sword.” He Xibai said: “What on earth are the people of the Demon Palace City doing? They said that the Books and Records Hall didn’t have records of the Dragon Slayer Sword.”
“Found it in the box underneath.”
He Xibai glanced at the inconspicuous box and said, “These people need to tidy up the Books and Records Hall properly. If we reorganize it, there’s no telling how many hidden items there are that haven’t been discovered yet.”
Yu Yun excitedly opened the cover, eager to read the content within.
Just then, a maid ran in, saying, “This is not good!”
Yu Yun suddenly remembered the ongoing battle outside.
He Xibai shouted in panic, “What is it, don’t tell me our Defense System has been breached!”
“No, the people from the Dragon Slaying Clan have retreated.” the maid answered.
“The Dragon Slaying Clan’s retreat is a good thing, why are you saying it’s not good and scaring me.”
“Qiao Fanfeng was mortally wounded and is now dead.”
Yu Yun could hardly believe it and hurriedly asked, “What exactly is going on?”
The maid promptly relayed everything that had occurred outside.
He Xibai exclaimed in shock, “It appears that the Mutant Winged Dragon plans to breach the Defense Tower tomorrow. His energy consumption today was too great, he’s not confident enough.”
The maid replied, “Absolutely, the Dragon Slaying Array has been broken, and Qiao Fanfeng has been killed. No one can withstand the Dragon Slayer Sword now.”
He Xibai queried, “So, what do we do?”
“Right now, no one knows what to do. Some people suggest leaving. They’re worried that the Mutant Winged Dragon will break Demon Palace City tomorrow. If we don’t leave now, we might all die in Demon Palace City.”
He Xibai angrily retorted, “Nonsense, the palace lord has already decreed that we live and die with Demon Palace City. We won’t evacuate.”
“Indeed, we people of Demon Palace City are not the sort to fear death. But the disciples of the other sects don’t think this way. They believe that if they can’t win, they should retreat and come back stronger in the future.”
He Xibai became even more furious, declaiming, “Come back stronger, what nonsense! If Demon Palace City is broken, the fairy and demon world would cease to exist. Everything would fall into the hands of the Mutant Winged Dragon. Gathering again for battle wouldn’t be easy.”
“In any case, everyone is feeling quite pessimistic right now.”
“Are they in the main hall?” Yu Yun didn’t know if the “Dragon Slayer Sword Origin Record” would be useful.
“After suffering huge losses in the recent fight and sinking into desolation, especially with the death of Qiao Fanfeng, they have dispersed. Yun’er’s father thinks everyone needs some time to recover. We will discuss what to do later.”
Yu Yun nodded and called out, “He Xibai, stop searching and return first. I am going to find Ye Chen.”. She had to quickly deliver the Origin Record to him, hoping it contained the information he needed. As she rushed out of the Books and Records Hall.
Only a single stripe of sunset remained in the western sky, soon to be swallowed by the night.
Yu Yun, keeping up a fast pace, came to Ye Chen’s courtyard. Seeing a maid at the entrance, she yelled, “Has Ye Chen returned?”
The maid looked up and answered, “He just returned.”
Upon entering, Yu Yun saw a man in shambles, his clothes tattered, his wounds untreated as if he were half-buried in the ground, lying on a sagging chair. He seemed more like a corpse, immobilized. The entrance of Yu Yun did not stir him. His eyes lost focus; it was as if he was possessed.
Yu Yun kicked the chair angrily.
It nearly made Ye Chen fly out of the chair.
Ye Chen turned around in anger, “What are you doing?”
“Checking if you’re dead!” Yu Yun retorted.
“Leave me alone.”
“You should take a look at yourself in the mirror and see what you look like!”
Ye Chen didn’t want to deal with her. He had just barely survived a life and death situation; though he was still alive, he couldn’t see any hope, only despair. Tonight was his last struggle.
A yellowed book, with a thud, landed heavily on his lap. Yu Yun shouted, “You two, what are you doing? Don’t you know how to administer medicine for the wounds?”
The two maids meekly came in. One of them replied, “Young master Ye said he doesn’t need it.”
“If he says he wants to drink poison, would you bring it to him!?”
Ye Chen really didn’t want to deal with Yu Yun, and yet those few words suddenly flashed in front of him subsiding half of his desolation. “Dragon Slayer Sword Origin Record,” he hastily grabbed the yellowed book and started flipping through it.
Yu Yun observed his injuries.
The maids brought the medicine.
“You can’t give up like this. It’s not over yet.” Yu Yun talked while tending to his wounds.
Ye Chen didn’t hear what Yu Yun was saying as he was totally absorbed in the thin Origin Record
It didn’t have much content.
The two maids stood by, helping.
Yu Yun talked to herself, while Ye Chen was entirely engrossed by the content of the few pages.
“How can you give up like this? There are always setbacks in life. It’s not over yet!” Yu Yun’s eyes welled up with tears.
Time flew and more than half an hour had unknowingly passed.
All of a sudden, for an unknown reason, Ye Chen pulled Yu Yun into a hug. He was a hair’s breadth away from kissing her.
The two shy maids were startled, and Yun’er was taken aback as well.
A faint smile appeared on Ye Chen’s face.
Yu Yun had never been hugged so closely by a boy before; this was her first time. She was muddled, remaining still, perhaps she was too startled to react, and ended up acquiescing.
When Ye Chen released his grip, Yu Yun still sat there, blushing and unsure of what to do.
“This is great, this is really great!” Ye Chen declared.
