Chapter 449 - 449 435 What You Think is Only What You Think

Chapter 449: Chapter 435: What You Think is Only What You Think Chapter 449: Chapter 435: What You Think is Only What You Think “So why are you choosing a place where no one knows you? Are you feeling like a failure over what happened with my sister and too embarrassed to face people?” asked Yu Yun.

“Absolutely not!” Ye Chen replied.

“Then tell me, why do you insist on finding a place where no one recognizes you?” Yu Yun curiously asked.

“So I can start over.”

“Can’t you start over now? I see, there’s only one reason, it’s because you’re running away. I assume it’s tied to your past, whether it’s because of Ling’er or my sister, I won’t say, but you certainly want to escape.”

“I am not running away. In a place where no one knows me, nobody would know about my past.”

“However you put it, you are merely trying to escape, because we are aware of your past failures which you might feel embarrassed about.”

“That’s incorrect, I was actually quite successful.”

“On the surface, yes. You are the Alliance Leader, but on the inside, you’re lonely. You’ve failed at love,” Yu Yun stated.

“I’d rather we do not proceed with this topic.” It seemed as if Ye Chen had been hit in a vulnerable spot.

“Did I strike a nerve? And you still don’t want to talk about it!”

Ye Chen gave a slight smile, took a sip of tea to calm himself.

“Laugh all you want, it doesn’t hide your frail heart, nor your fear of meeting people you know,” Yu Yun scolded.

Ye Chen really didn’t know what to say, how had this girl suddenly become so straightforward and outspoken?

“On the outside, you seem quite confident, but on the inside, you’re as brittle as a young girl.”

“Who says my soul is fragile?” Ye Chen fought back.

“That would be me.”

As Ye Chen was about to retort, he abruptly lost steam and lowered his head.

“Nothing to say anymore, I presume,” Yu Yun continued, “I think you might as well become a monk, that way you’ll cause no one any harm.”

“And when did you become so sarcastic?”

“There’s more where that came from,” Yu Yun replied, “You have your worries, it’s beneficial to communicate more with others.”

“You’re not suggesting that I should interact more with you, are you?”

“What’s wrong with interacting with me? Am I that bad?”

“Of course not, who would dare to call our Miss Yun’er bad?”

“Listen, the things you believe are not always right. Perhaps what you think is right could be utterly wrong. You’re isolating yourself, do you realize that?”

“How am I isolating myself?”

“Choosing a place where no one knows you, that’s not self-isolation?”

“I just want a place where no one will bother me.”

“That’s just you finding excuses! No one bothers you, and then what?”

“Then I’ll settle down, start a family, have a wife…”

“A man unable to let go of his past, getting married, starting a family? Don’t make me laugh,” Yu Yun scoffed.

“It seems I’ve underestimated you.”

Yu Yun responded, “In my opinion, moving to a place where no one knows you won’t make a difference if you can’t even manage in a place where people do.”

“I don’t believe that.”

“Of course, you don’t, because you believe you’re always right. Whose opinion would you even take into consideration?”

“How is it that I find myself utterly speechless.”

“Because what I’m saying is true.”

“Are you right about everything, and I never am?”

“You might be clever, but that does not necessarily mean you’re rational when dealing with matters of the heart. In my eyes, you’re stubborn and not the least bit free and easy in love,” countered Yu Yun.

Ye Chen replied, “Of course, I would seem free and easy if I were to agree to be together with you.”

Yu Yun gave a cold laugh.

“You little girl, you’ve really left me dumbfounded.”

“Accept reality, step out into the world! Life is short, who knows what experiences await? Instead, you’re wasting time, wallowing in self-pity.”

Ye Chen laughed, saying, “There’s some truth in what you’ve said, my views may not always be correct, but likewise, neither are yours.”

“Then what truly is the ‘right’ thing?”

“Perhaps the lines aren’t so clear-cut, it can depend on the situation. Everyone has their own interpretation.”

“Then what is your interpretation now?”

“I’m caught up in my own worries, and maybe everyone needs to experience that. What you’ve said might be right, but the experiences we forge ourselves are the most genuine.”

“I fear that once you step on this path, you might never find your way out, maybe not even for a lifetime.”

“That’s not necessarily true, I’m so clever, I am bound to find my way sooner or later.”

“I beg to differ, sometimes being a little dumb might be a good thing. Being too clever could lead to being overly stubborn.”

“Sigh, why are we even talking about this.”

“Perhaps everything doesn’t need to be made clear, there’s no need for everything to be understood. Once everything is clear, perhaps life loses its meaning,” said Yu Yun.

Jiang Zhuge walked in.

“Come and eat,” Ye Chen shouted.

“Yu Yun is here too,” said Jiang Zhuge.

“Hmm, come and join us for dinner,” Jiang Zhuge sat down, and Yu Yun continued to talk, “You must have been very busy lately.”

“Not particularly, your father and the others are the busiest.”

“Yes, they are quite busy.”

Ye Chen said, “Hurry up and finish eating, I’ll take you home once you’re done. If you don’t return soon, your mother will come looking for me.”

Early in the morning, with the mist yet to dissipate, Ye Chen took a walk through the forest. He wanted to use this chance to peacefully practice his skills. He didn’t know if the Dragon Slaying Array was useful, but he knew he had to try his best.

The citizens of Demon Palace City, as much as possible, were relocated deeper into the city. The incidents at Immortal City were still etched in their minds, with the buildings at the main gate suffering the most damage.

Yu Qing was busy helping with the move.

Ye Chen bumped into Yu Qing and Jiang Shizi on his way down the mountain.

On seeing him, Jiang Shizi said, “So early, did you go up the mountain to see the Fox Demon?”

“I wish I had the mood to go up and see the Fox Demon.” Ye Chen replied.

“Hehe, what were you doing up there so early?”

“Just spacing out.”

“I thought you had made plans with some beauty to watch the sunrise on the mountain.”

“If I invite you to the mountain to watch the sunrise, would you go?”

“I’m not that fortunate. Leave that honor to Yun’er.”

Ye Chen gave a fake laugh asked, “What are you two up to?”

“Moving the unrelated people to the back, we have so much stuff to move, we’re not as idle as you!” She replied.

“Anything I can help with?”

Yu Qing chuckled, “You have plenty on your plate already. The people from Dragon Slaying Clan have already arrived at the foot of the mountain.” Yu Qing knew that Ye Chen had been busy practicing the Dragon Slaying Array, and that he had been getting closer to Yu Yun.

Ye Chen glanced at Qing’er. There seemed to be a sudden distance between the two, given that she was a married woman.

“Are you adjusting well to Demon Palace City?” Yu Qing asked with concern.

“Do I have a choice? Everything delicious has been moved to their courtyard,” Jiang Shizi said.

Hearing this, Ye Chen blushed in embarrassment.

Someone was calling Jiang Shizi from the distance. She answered and turned to leave. Yu Qing seemed to have something else to say, but likely had already heard Guo Yuyun mention about Ye Chen’s inability to let go of his past.

Jiang Shizi noticed this too, she nudged Yu Qing and said, “Hurry up and get over here.”

Yu Qing nodded.

“You must be very busy recently,” said Qing’er.

“It’s the same for everyone.”

“I heard that you let Yun’er search the Books and Records Hall for information about the Dragon Slayer Sword.”

“Yeah, she had nothing specific to do, so I thought she might as well help too.”

“That girl has been very serious recently, more so than I’ve ever seen her before.”

Ye Chen glanced at Yu Qing, understanding her implications. He quickly responded, “Of course she should be serious. The two of us have caused such a ruckus, we can’t afford not to be.”

Yu Qing chuckled slightly, and added, “Yu Yun seems much more mature lately.”

“Interesting, doesn’t feel like that to me!” said Ye Chen.

“That’s a good thing.”

“What’s so good?” he regretted asking the moment the words left his mouth.

“The fact that you two are together is good.”

“Hey, I have no such intention.”

“Do you intend to be alone for the rest of your life?”

“That girl, has she been spreading rumors to you?”

“Not at all, she’s very prudent. She wouldn’t just blabber to anyone.”

Ye Chen expressed his disbelief, “How could that be possible?”

Yu Qing walked towards a pavilion in the distance and said, “I’ve never seen Yun’er this happy.”

Ye Chen glanced around and followed her.

“I know you’re still stuck on Ling’er, but we have to let go of the past,” she told him.

Ye Chen managed a small smile.

“Are you planning to stay unmarried for the rest of your life?” she sensed his resistance to the topic.

Yet again, Ye Chen could only smile slightly.

“It’s time to move on.”

“Hehe, right now, my only concern is to find a way to defeat the Dragon Clan members.”

“Indeed. We’re all thinking about that.”

“If we lose, we lose everything.”

“I believe goodness will triumph over evil. As long as we are united, we can defeat the Dragon Clan.” Figuring he wasn’t keen to discuss matters of the heart, Yu Qing wondered if it was due to his busyness, or whether there was an emotional barrier.

“Despite everything, I’m starting to lose confidence.”

“What do you mean, you’re losing confidence?”

“Yes. I used to think I was pretty handy, but now I realize I’m really nothing at all.”

“Who says so? I think you’ve done amazing things. The Immortal and Demon Realms have managed to survive till now, which is already quite an achievement. If you hadn’t led the disciples of the New City Sect back to the Central Plains, who knows what would have become of the Immortal and Demon Realms,” she countered his self-deprecating statement.

“You give me too much credit,” Ye Chen gently said.

“I’m not exaggerating. Just your act of leading the disciples of the Immortal and Demon Realms through Turtle Mountain was very well done.”

“But all the chaos today was caused by me.”

“Stop burdening yourself unnecessarily. Remember, as you once told me, ‘Don’t overthink everything. Just do what you can.'”
