Chapter 446: Chapter 432: Dragon Slaying Array Chapter 446: Chapter 432: Dragon Slaying Array Yu Yun was eating, looking at the serious-faced Ye Chen and, once again, found his bewildered appearance amusing.
“I know what you’re up to, but can you hold off? We have important matters to deal with right now. It’s not appropriate for romance,” Ye Chen said.
Yu Yun asked, “Hold off? What do you mean? Are you saying that you’re giving me a chance?”
“What? Did I imply that?”
“I heard, yes.”
“You’re really leaving me breathless.”
“This is just the beginning.”
“Right now, I am trying to help Demon Palace City and focusing on how to deal with the Dragon Slaying Clan. You could at least let me concentrate on that.”
“Sure, you do yours, and I’ll do mine.”
“If this continues, we won’t even be friends anymore,” Ye Chen said.
“Eat your food,” Yu Yun shouted, picking up a chicken leg.
“Alright, you eat. I’ll eat too,” Ye Chen said.
“Should we bring some food over? We might have to spend a lot of time in the Books and Records Hall.”
“You make the call.”
“We definitely should,” she called out. “Girl, prepare a basket for me and put some food in it; I’m taking it to the Books and Records Hall.”
The maid quickly came over.
“Given the time we have, it’s only a few days. We only have a few days to prepare,” Ye Chen was very anxious. He had not rested well in the past days. The blazing fire in Wasteland City kept appearing in his mind; it was no child’s play.
“You can’t rush this,” Yu Yun said.
“We can’t afford to waste our time here either.”
The maid came over, and Yu Yun instructed, “Put all of these in.”
The maid followed Yu Yun’s orders.
“Heh heh, it’s not like we’re going to be there for many days. There’s no need to bring so much food. If we’re hungry, we can come back,” Ye Chen said.
“Just let her pack, whatever can be eaten, will be eaten.”
A somewhat ancient four-story pagoda appeared before them, with the words “Books and Records Hall” written on it.
The doors were guarded and closed, and nobody knew how long it had been since they were last opened.
Yu Yun stepped forward, and someone greeted her.
“We’re here to find some documents,” she said.
The guard looked at Ye Chen standing behind her, whom he didn’t recognize. “Is this Ye Chen, the Sect Leader of New City?” It seemed that Guo Mingyu had already informed them.
Ye Chen quickly responded, “Yes, that’s me. I’ve already spoken to your Palace Master about needing to find some information in the Books and Records Hall.”
The guard glanced at his fellow guards, nodded, and said, “Alright, you can go in.”
Ye Chen followed Yu Yun in.
An unpleasant musty smell hung in the air, emanating from the stacks of paper. Yu Yun coughed twice and exclaimed, “When was the last time these doors were opened?”
A person guided them inside and hurriedly opened the windows.
“Such a waste of resources; this Books and Records Hall holds countless secret martial arts manuals, which you all seem to disregard. Are you all too busy in love to spend time studying martial arts?” Ye Chen speculated.
“Nonsense, not just anyone can waltz into this Books and Records Hall.”
“I’d say it’s been at least seventeen or eighteen days since someone last came in, just goes to show how uninterested you all are in these books. No wonder your martial arts skills are poor.”
“Enough with the chatter.”
“How do we search?”
“Of course, we look for books related to the Dragon Slayer Sword. Any information that we can find, especially about the origin of the Dragon Slayer Sword, and other secrets unknown to others,” Ye Chen said.
“Shouldn’t we find some secret martial arts to practice?”
“If you had any special techniques, you wouldn’t be in such a mess. Why else would you need me to deal with the Mutant Winged Dragon?”
“Don’t belittle us.”
“I’m not belittling you; I’m just telling the truth.”
“You’re really infuriating with your attitude.”
“Really?” Ye Chen had already dived into the sea of books, looking at the vast collection. His head felt like it was about to explode.
“How are we going to find them?” Yu Yun asked.
“Heh, I wanted to ask you the same question. How come no one manages your Books and Records Hall?”
“Someone does.”
“So, where are all the secret manuals then?” Ye Chen asked.
Inside the grand hall, Guo Mingyu, Qiao Fanfeng, Ren Xiongbei, Jiang Ouyang, and Fang Ziren were all present.
Guo Mingyu and Qiao Fanfeng knew that the Dragon Slayer Sword was now the most crucial factor: whether or not it could withstand it determined the fate of the Dragon Slaying Clan.
Jiang Ouyang said, “There’s no doubt about it. People from the demonic and wicked realms are coming and they are already approaching.”
Qiao Fanfeng was mentally prepared and did not react much.
Ren Xiongbei said, “The crucial point is how we should respond to the Dragon Slayer Sword.”
Guo Mingyu replied, “Exactly. What we need to consider most is how to handle the Dragon Slayer Sword.”
“Can the Defense System withstand the Dragon Slayer Sword?” Fang Ziren asked.
“As I’ve said, nobody knows the true power of the Dragon Slayer Sword. Betting on such uncertainty is imprudent. Whether we can hold Demon Palace City rests on the Defense System remaining unbroken,” Qiao Fanfeng answered.
Having heard this, Ren Xiongbei commented, “I reckon the Mutant Winged Dragon must’ve thought of this. It will undoubtedly try to shatter the Defense System using the Dragon Slayer Sword.”
“Then, what should we do?” Fang Ziren asked.
“Safeguarding the Defense System is of paramount importance. With comparable numbers, the Defense System is our advantage. Without it, the Dragon Slayer Sword’s advantage would be amplified indefinitely.”
“Apart from the Defense System, what else can we use to resist the Dragon Slayer Sword?” Fang Ziren inquired.
“That’s what I’ve come to discuss with you all today,” Guo Mingyu continued, “Qiao and I have agreed that we should not solely rely on the Defense System against the Mutant Winged Dragon and his Dragon Slayer Sword. If the Defense System fails, we’ll be left with no fallback.”
“Without the Defense System, how can we withstand the Dragon Slayer Sword?” questioned Ren Xiongbei.
Guo Mingyu continued, “Although we don’t know the Dragon Slayer Sword’s potency, we have the Immortal Pearl, Demonic Pearl, and Heavenly Pearl. We’ve decided that I’ll wield the Demonic Pearl while Qiao uses the Immortal Pearl, and Ye Chen will be entrusted with the Heavenly Pearl. Together, we’ll form an array to counter the Mutant Winged Dragon.”
“Will it be able to withstand it?” Fang Ziren wondered.
“We’re uncertain, but this is the best solution we’ve come up with. We haven’t got a better one. We can only hope that these three sacred pearls can resist it. If they fail, we’ll devise another plan,” Guo Mingyu stated.
“Array? What kind of array?”
“An ancient array of Demon Palace City, the Triangular Array. I’d like to rename it the Dragon Slaying Array, in hopes that it can face off against the Mutant Winged Dragon,” Guo Mingyu continued, ” That’s our current plan, which has Qiao’s agreement as well.”
“Since we are all in agreement, there’s nothing further to discuss,” Ren Xiongbei confirmed.
Despite toiling all day, Ye Chen and his colleagues had found no leads. Their failure left them feeling discouraged.
“I told you, it wouldn’t be that easy,” Yu Yun commented.
“Don’t expect me to give up so easily. I won’t back down,” argued Ye Chen.
Chuckles followed, “I’m not asking you to.”
“I strongly believe that we will unearth something.”
“Okay, but it’s getting late. We should go back.”
“You go ahead. I want to search a bit more.”
“You’re really planning to stay here all night! You need to recharge. Without energy, you can’t make much progress. I’ll bring more people to help tomorrow.”
“Understood. You go first, I’ll return later.”
Seeing Ye Chen so determined, Yu Yun, feeling quite exhausted, could only say “Alright, I’m going to prepare dinner. Come back soon.”
“Understood.”
“We’re going back to our quarters.”
Ye Chen turned around and asked “What do you mean ‘our’ quarters?”
“My quarters, okay?”
“Understood. You may leave. I’ll continue searching,” Ye Chen resumed his foray.
Not even half an hour after Yu Yun had left, Guo Mingyu arrived. Although he had discussed the plan with Qiao Fanfeng and others during the day, he hadn’t informed Ye Chen. Arriving at Ye Chen’s quarters and finding him absent, he proceeded to the Books and Records Hall.
Indeed, Ye Chen was there.
“So, you’re planning to stay here overnight,” Guo Mingyu entered, noticing the lit lanterns.
Ye Chen gave a start. He hadn’t expected Guo Mingyu to pay a visit. He quickly responded with a smile, “Just wanted to search a bit more.”
“Have you had dinner?”
“Yu Yun’s preparing.”
“Well, you shouldn’t be starving yourself.”
“Hmm.”
“Did you find anything?”
“Nothing as of now.”
“If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask me.”
“Yes, I will. Elders, did you come here because you wanted to talk about something?” Ye Chen inquired.
Guo Mingyu pointed towards a nearby tea table and said, “Let’s talk over there.”
A servant girl came over and poured them tea. In a nutshell, Guo Mingyu shared the plan they had hashed out during the day.
“I’m in. As long as I can contribute and assist you all,” Ye Chen confirmed.
“You’re the most proficient in martial arts among us. You should take the lead, but we’re unsure if it would be enough. This is merely a plan and we hope it’s efficient,” stated Guo Mingyu.
Understanding Guo Mingyu’s idea, Ye Chen responded, “Hmm, just let me know what to do.”
“Here’s the Heavenly Pearl and the protocol of the Triangular Array, which you haven’t seen yet. I hope you’d take a look and we’ll practice together when you’re ready.”
