Chapter 403 - 403 389 United to Rescue Guo Mingyu
Chapter 403: Chapter 389: United to Rescue Guo Mingyu Chapter 403: Chapter 389: United to Rescue Guo Mingyu Alliance Leader Qiao had the heaviest task at hand. He was aware that facing the Army of Death would be the most challenging, but there was no other option left. The number of people he could work with was limited. He could only amass a group of a little over a thousand to counter both Mitra Monk and his Army of Death.
Alliance Leader Qiao said, “Whether or not we can hold them off until Ye Chen and Xiongbei arrive depends entirely on our ability to hold the fort for one day.”
“We definitely can! Sect Leader Su Hong was able to hold back the Army of Death for two days with just a thousand people. We should also be capable,” Guan Yi stated, finding a lot of confidence from Su Hong’s precedent.
“I’ve already contacted Ye Chen. He has managed to escape from the Zen Masters’ pursuit. As long as we can stall the Army of Death until tomorrow, they should be able to reach us.
Guan Yi said, “Our aim isn’t just to stall them; we need to drain them as much as we can. Even if they manage to get past us, they won’t be able to recover in a day.”
“Alright, we’ll do as you suggest. We may not win against them, but we sure can hold them off.”
Guan Yi nodded and asked, “Alliance Leader Qiao, where do you plan on blocking them?”
“There’s a place I know,” said Alliance Leader Qiao.
“I hope it’s not far from here.”
“We should get there within two hours.”
“I think I know the place you’re talking about.”
“Whether or not Guo Mingyu survives until Ye Chen’s arrival depends on us.”
“Don’t worry, we can definitely do it.”
Just as they were speaking, a conflict erupted in the distance. Even though they were far from it, the earth-shattering sounds were still very clear. Soon, they saw several plumes of black smoke rise from behind them, like from a chimney.
Alliance Leader Qiao watched for a while before turning back around.
He knew that the Mutant Winged Dragon was starting to encircle them.
He was visibly worried, but if he stayed back, who else could be entrusted with blocking Mitra Monk and Shen Tian? Even he, with the Immortal Pearl, might not be able to tackle Mitra Monk and Shen Tian alone.
Guan Yi said, “Rest assured, Alliance Leader Qiao, I believe that Fang Ziren and Song Zheng’an, after experiencing so much, will be alright. They are aware of what we are trying to do.”
Alliance Leader Qiao replied, “We have to believe, even if we find it hard to.”
Guan Yi nodded slightly and said, “As long as we can hold the fort and prevent Mitra Monk from reaching us, I believe they can hold out for two days. Moreover, Senior Brother Guo’s martial arts skills are impeccable and he has a Demonic Pearl to aid him. He will surely be able to hold steady.”
The Mutant Winged Dragon had already begun its attack. Their objective was to encircle Guo Mingyu and his team. At that moment, Fang Ziren and Song Zheng’an, who were situated on either side of the forest, led their respective groups into battle, effectively disrupting the enemy’s encirclement as anticipated.
If the Mutant Winged Dragon diverted its forces to deal with Fang Ziren and Song Zheng’an, their remaining forces wouldn’t be able to besiege Guo Mingyu and his team within a day. With his extensive experience, Guo Mingyu didn’t panic in the siege and remained collected, especially after knowing Alliance Leader Qiao’s plan.
Primarily focusing on defence and avoiding a hard breakout, they were preserving their energy. They also had formations. Their unique formation, courtesy of Demon Palace, wasn’t easily breakable and would at least take some time. Fang Ziren and Song Zheng’an’s attacks on both sides further stopped the Dragon Slaying Clan and demonic monsters from focusing their attention on Guo Mingyu and his team.
Ye Chen received a message from Alliance Leader Qiao about Guo Mingyu’s besiegement.
Jiang Zhuge anxiously said, “If Guo Mingyu is besieged, and we don’t rush over, they would be in grave danger.”
His words were overheard by Yu Yun who had come to bring food to Ye Chen. She dropped the food tray in shock and said, “What? They’ve ambushed my father?”
Jiang Zhuge quickly reassured her, “They’ve only surrounded him. Nothing has happened yet. Don’t worry, we will definitely go there to rescue your father.”
“But how did my father end up being surrounded? Wasn’t Fang Ziren the one who was supposed to be ambushed?”
“When your father tried to rescue Fang Ziren, the warriors from the Dragon Slaying Clan shifted their aim. They abandoned the plan to ambush Fang Ziren and redirected all of their resources to target Alliance Leader Qiao and your father,” Jiang Zhuge explained. “Your father and Alliance Leader Qiao were caught by surprise. When the entire force started to close in on them, Alliance Leader Qiao managed to escape, but your father and Sect Leader Wan Shatong of Qingxuan Sect couldn’t.”
“What do we do now? Mitra Monk will reach us by nightfall today. If we can’t save him by then, my father’s life will be in serious danger,” Yu Yun voiced her concern.
“Calm down. Right now, Alliance Leader Qiao and his team are trying to hold them off and prevent Mitra Monk from reaching us. They’ll do everything they can to keep Mitra Monk and his team busy and prevent them from meeting the Mutant Winged Dragon. This will buy some time for us.”
“Why did something like this happen?” a horrified Yu Yun didn’t know what to do.
“Don’t worry, we’ll get there as soon as possible. Qiao Fanfeng has already thought of a way to deal with them.”
“How can this be? Why haven’t they thought of a way to rescue my father?”
“It’s likely that they can’t think of a solution and are afraid of causing another incident. Last night, after rescuing Fang Ziren, they ended up getting your father surrounded. Besides, the Mitra Monk and his team are closing in. Worried about more mishaps, and unable to find a solution, they’ve decided to wait for us. After all, once we and Xiongbei’s team arrive, we will have more manpower and won’t be so passive.”
“But when we do get there, how will we rescue my father?”
Ye Chen was examining the map, hoping to find some kind of clue from it.
“We have just learned about the situation and are actively thinking of a solution. Don’t worry, I believe that Qiao Fanfeng and his team can hold on until we arrive. We won’t forsake your father, and will definitely think of a way to rescue him.”
“How could this happen.” Yu Yun was very anxious.
Jiang Zhuge said, “The Mutant Winged Dragon is cunning. When they saw they couldn’t trap Fang Ziren and were short on manpower, they simply gave up on Fang Ziren and his team. Instead, they had all their men concentrate on Qiao Fanfeng and Guo Mingyu. If it wasn’t for Qiao Fanfeng’s quick escape, he and Guo Mingyu would have been encircled.”
Kong Sha glanced at him and said, “I think this is a good strategy. If they attack rashly and can’t break the siege on the disciples of the Demon Palace, it will be even more dangerous. Now, as long as they can drag on for a day, we can catch up and join hands with Qiao Fanfeng and his team.”
Li Mo said, “We too have to come up with a plan. The Mutant Winged Dragon will surely not let us rescue the people from the Demon Palace easily. He is fully aware of Guo Mingyu’s importance to the Demon Palace. If something happens to Guo Mingyu, it will be a heavy blow to the Demon Palace, leaving them leaderless and unorganized for their future battle.”
Upon hearing this, Yu Yun became even more anxious, at a loss for what to do.
Jiang Zhuge said, “Don’t scare Yu Yun. We still have time, and I believe we can come up with a solution.”
Ye Chen was examining the map intently, trying to find some clues in it so they wouldn’t have to panic when they get there.
Night had already fallen. They didn’t stop immediately but wanted to travel a bit further. Ye Chen said, “Don’t get lost.” He was anxious they might take the wrong path, which would delay their arrival.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already sent people to scout ahead,” said Jiang Zhuge.
Indeed, Mitra Monk, leading the Army of Death, was approaching.
Qiao Fanfeng gathered his men again, saying, “Remember, our aim is not to annihilate them but to hold them off until daylight. And don’t allow a single one to slip through. Whether we can rescue Guo Mingyu or not depends on whether we can hold them off. If our Sect Leader, Su Hong, could did it, I believe each and every one of you can too.”
His words of encouragement assured his men and eased their fears.
…
As Mitra Monk led the Army of Death closer, the Winged Dragons started to fly chaotically, and the howling mutant beasts rushed wildly in the forest.
Mitra Monk had received the message from the Mutant Winged Dragon that Qiao Fanfeng’s team would come to block them, including an estimate of their numbers.
Mitra Monk looked at his subordinates and said, “These weaklings definitely can’t be your match. They’re only bringing a thousand men.”
A burly individual said, “They’re vastly underestimating our Army of Death.”
“Alright, I’ll only say this once: we need to get there as fast as possible. We can’t afford to waste time here. They want to delay until the teams from New City Sect and Immortal City Sect arrive. If these two groups arrive, they will disrupt our siege of Guo Mingyu’s team. I don’t want that to happen, and neither would the Mutant Winged Dragon.”
“Don’t worry, they won’t succeed.”
“The night provides a good opportunity. However, this location is not very advantageous for us. But we don’t have a choice, they’ve seized the upper ground. We, on the other hand, have the advantage in numbers, and don’t forget, you all are the formidable Army of Death. Show them what you’re made of,” said Mitra Monk.
Soon the battle raged, darkening the sky.
The Army of Death charged fiercely. The massive monsters roared as they rampaged through the forest, with fireballs flying everywhere. Qiao Fanfeng prepared for the worst, to die in battle. As if encouraged by an unseen force from Sect Leader Su Hong, Qiao Fanfeng and his team fought more valorously than ever before. Some of them were from the Immortal City Sect – they wouldn’t let others look down on them. They especially wanted to redeem the honour of their fallen peers from the Immortal City Sect.
So they fought fiercely, with no holds barred, causing a chaotic uproar.
Qiao Fanfeng was commanding, while Guan Yi commanded from another side, utilizing the advantageous terrain and their own Immortal Beasts to block the surging Army of Death. Qiao Fanfeng also charged into the fray, leaving Guan Yi to manage the flanks.
Qiao Fanfeng firmly believed that the toughest part would be the initial three waves. If they could withstand those, the situation would be eased. But this was also the time when problems were most likely to arise, and when the enemy could quickly spot weaknesses.
