Chapter 379 - 379 366 The Big Conspiracy
Chapter 379: Chapter 366: The Big Conspiracy Chapter 379: Chapter 366: The Big Conspiracy In the morning, as Qiao Fanfeng was about to discuss the plan to trap their enemies with Guo Mingyu and the others, a message arrived saying that members of the Dragon Slaying Clan had quickened their pace and set off eastward before dawn.
Upon hearing this, Haotian anxiously said, “It seems that Mutant Winged Dragon and his party are preparing to escape.”
“Right, they must know that we are following them and are afraid that we might catch up before they leave the Central Plains,” Song Zheng’an said.
Qiao Fanfeng asked, “What do you think, Ye Chen?”
“I think we should still be careful in case there’s an ambush,” Ye Chen replied.
“What ambush? The road ahead is flat, not a good place for an ambush. How could they set up an ambush so easily? They are fleeing in panic now. If we don’t hurry up, they will reach the sea, and we won’t catch up,” Ren Haotian argued.
Upon hearing Haotian’s words, Xiongbei chided, “Haotian, mind your manners when you speak.”
Defending himself, Haotian said, “I’m just worried we might let them slip away and live with regret.”
“Only if we fall into their trap will we have regrets,” Li Mo intervened.
“Are you suggesting our spies from the Fairy and Demon domains are hicks? If there is an ambush, they would have detected it!”
Ye Chen gave Haotian a glance, acknowledging that he had been underestimating him, seemingly taunting him intentionally. But Ye Chen didn’t care.
“We’ve deployed three groups of spies, and they say everything is clear ahead,” Fanfeng told them.
“Did you hear that?! Stop being paranoid. If we keep doubting, those from the Dragon Slaying Clan will have already sailed off. We’ll lose our precious opportunity to catch them then!” Ren Haotian declared.
Ye Chen stayed quiet, his facial expression unchanged.
Qiao Fanfeng decided, “I’ll send off the Winged Dragons as soon as possible to slow them down, then we’ll surround them.”
Unable to believe what he was hearing, Su Zhanze said, “An ambush is impossible, didn’t you hear? Their crowd consists of more than five thousand people, exactly the number in the Dragon Slaying Clan! They’re all up front, how can there be an ambush?”
“That’s easy, just switch them out with a bunch of civilians,” Li Mo suggested.
“Exactly, are you suggesting that we find a group of civilians in the wild forest? Should we just dig four to five thousand people out from underneath the ground?”
Li Mo was left speechless.
Guan Yi added, “However, Haotian is correct. The path ahead is flat, not an ideal place for ambush. They seem to be moving very quickly.”
Impatiently, Ren Haotian yelled, “What are you waiting for? The Dragon Slaying Clan is about to escape!”
“Alright, let’s move,” Qiao Fanfeng decided. Turning to Song Zheng’an, he commanded, “Quickly release the Winged Dragons to slow them down. We can’t let them escape.”
Ren Haotian stood up, glanced at Ye Chen and approvingly said, “Now that’s more like it!” He then left with Su Zhanze scornfully muttering, “He really thinks he’s the Alliance Leader.”
Ye Chen caught wind of that.
Qiao Fanfeng approached him, saying, “Ye Chen, don’t take it to heart.”
“I won’t, don’t worry,” Ye Chen reassured him, then asked, “There’s nothing unusual in the forest, right?”
How could they possibly sense anything out of the ordinary? The Zen Master and his team had captured a group of people yesterday and hid them in a cliff cave in the forest. Throughout the night and early morning, they managed to replace Mutant Winged Dragon’s group with the captured individuals and hide them in a secret cave. Unless scrutinized, it would be nearly impossible to discover their hiding place in the cave with thousands of people.
Lang Ji returned and reported, “They followed the Zen Master’s group and crossed the forest.”
“Good, as long as they believe it,” Mutant Winged Dragon said. “Has everyone been led to the front?”
“Everyone headed that way. They indeed believe that we are trying to escape.”
Mitra Monk commented, “If only the Zen Master’s group can guarantee that they won’t find out the truth for another two days.”
It was now midday.
“We must remain vigilant.” Mutant Winged Dragon continued, “It’s time for us to split up.”
Mitra Monk nodded. He had already sent a courier pigeon to the Demonic and Evil realms, believing they would receive the missive soon.
“Be careful, and break the defense of the Immortal City,” Winged Dragon ordered.
“Rest assured, we’ve got this,” Mitra Monk reassured him, knowing that the Immortal City was currently underdefended.
“The Immortal City is now vulnerable. Qiao Fanfeng and Ren Xiongbei have left just Su Hong and Jiang Ouyang behind, with Su Hong being seriously injured.”
Mitra Monk remarked, “I could take a military oath, swearing to break the defense of the Immortal City.”
“Great, I wish you victory.”
Soon afterward, Mutant Winged Dragon separated from Mitra Monk.
Mutant Winged Dragon was heading towards Heavenly City to meet with those from the Demonic and Evil realms.
The target for Mitra Monk and Shen Tian was the Immortal City.
Qiao Fanfeng had dispatched a large group to attack the Zen Master who trailed behind.
Yuan Menhai said, “Those people seem to want to hold us back.”
The Zen Master agreed, “Yes, it appears that they don’t want us to escape.”
“Fortunately, our leader anticipated this in advance.”
“As long as they don’t realize that the people up front are decoys, we’ll be fine,” the Zen Master said.
Yuan Menhai nodded in agreement.
The Zen Master continued, “We need to buy our leader at least two days, two days during which they can’t discover our deception.”
“Right, but by the look of things, they want to surround us,” Yuan Menhai responded.
“Of course they want to surround us, they don’t want to let us go! We need to speed up those in front. They can’t discover us this quickly,” the Zen Master retorted.
Yuan Menhai nodded again in agreement.
The Zen Master, contemplating the sheer brilliance of the plan he’d conceived, instructed, “As long as they don’t see through our decoys, we’re good to go. Also, we need to appear in a state of dishevelled retreat. That would make it more convincing, otherwise, it would be too obvious.”
The disciples nodded slightly in agreement.
“Alright, as long as everyone keeps up, our plan is more than half successful,” said the Zen Master.
Yuan Menhai responded, “I’ll go ahead and get them to speed up.”
“Good, you guys work hard.”
“It’s nothing.” Yuan Menhai moved up to the front.
The Zen Master then reminded his disciples, “We need to make some noise at the seaside.”
One of the disciples curiously queried, “Make noise at the seaside?”
“Of course, we need vessels to leave. How would they believe we’re going back to Dragon Slayer Island, if there’s no activity at the seaside?”
The disciple, having grasped the strategy, quickly nodded and agreed, “You’re right, we should do exactly that. Let’s pull one over on these rubes.”
“Right? Don’t you think it makes sense,” said the Zen Master. “Haven’t we left some Dragon Slaying Clan disciples at the seaside? Hurry and signal them to stir up some action, fooling them into thinking we’re preparing vessels for departure.”
“Excellent! Simply brilliant!”
“Don’t get too excited; we still need to figure out how to get rid of those persistent bastards. We’re not looking for a fight; we want to keep luring them, understand?”
The disciples hastily nodded their agreement.
“Alright, quickly send a pigeon message to the seaside. Make it loud and clear,” the Zen Master commanded before turning back, “Let’s get rid of these damned Winged Dragons and get moving.”
The Zen Master knew well the number of disciples in the Demon Domain, and if they didn’t move quickly, being surrounded would be the least of their worries. It was not wise to stay for long.
The Zen Master yelled, “Stop fighting, now is not the time. If they catch up, we won’t be able to escape.”
Only then did the disciples nod their heads.
“Hurry up, light some smoke; we’re going into the woods.”
Though it was a flat field devoid of mountains, once they went into the woods, even the Winged Dragons couldn’t do much from their position overhead, as they couldn’t get in to attack the Dragon Slaying Clan’s Winged Dragons.
Song Zheng’an returned and reported, “They have people covering the rear and they’re moving quickly. They’ve entered the woodlands again.”
Wan Shatong stated, “We absolutely can’t let them escape. We must find a way to stop them.”
“They too are afraid of getting caught up with us, hence they’re not delaying. They’ve sent a group of fast movers to fend off our Winged Dragons while the front group speeds toward the east,” Song Zheng’an explained.
“Any suspicious findings?” Guo Mingyu asked.
Shaking his head, Song Zheng’an responded, “Nothing suspicious. They’re running away quickly. It seems their Mutant Winged Dragon is seriously injured. They’re eager to leave the Central Plains.”
Guan Yi interjected, “No, we’ve got to stick to them. We can’t let them reach the sea. If they escape, they’ll surely become a major problem in the future.”
Zhan Ze added, “Right, we absolutely must hold them back. Now is a great opportunity for us.”
Song Zheng’an responded, “I am trying. I would give my life to hold them back.”
Qiao Fanfeng turned to Song Zheng’an, “Take a rest. Let Guan Yi and his squad relieve you for a short while.”
However, Zhan Ze intervened, “Uncle master, we’d like to give it a try. We can’t just sit back and watch while everyone else is busy. After all, we’re the younger generation.” He was keen to put on a good display.
“But you have only just joined this large-scale operation.”
“Are you afraid we lack experience? Uncle master Ren is watching over us. There will be no problems. Isn’t experience gained through practice?” Zhan Ze aimed to make a strong impression; he couldn’t pass up such a golden opportunity.
Xiongbei also chimed in, “I’m rather curious to see how skilled this Zen Master truly is.”
Only then did Qiao Fanfeng give his approval, “Alright, but be careful.”
“Don’t worry,” Xiongbei reassured.
In the ensuing silence, Qiao Fanfeng turned to the taciturn Ye Chen, “Ye Chen, do you still suspect they might have set a trap for us?”
Just as Ren Haotian was leaving with Zhan Ze, he overheard and scoffed coldly.
Shaking his head, Ye Chen responded, “I just hope we will be more cautious.”
