Chapter 333 - 333 320 Past Events Like Smoke
Chapter 333: Chapter 320: Past Events Like Smoke Chapter 333: Chapter 320: Past Events Like Smoke Ye Chen had said all that he wanted to say, all that could be said.
Jiang Zhuge stated, “Sect Leader, we’ve also spoken our minds. Now it’s up to their plans.”
Ye Chen remained silent, continuing his stride forward.
“Ye Chen, are you still worrying about something else?”
Ye Chen shook his head, but in reality, how could he not be worried.
Jiang Zhuge added, “It’s apparent that some people in the mystical world haven’t snapped out of it yet. They still don’t seem to understand the danger here, as if they just woke up.”
“That’s understandable. After all, we haven’t been to war in a while. It’s impossible for them to be on alert instantly,” Ye Chen replied.
“Our mishaps were largely due to their carelessness. If they had alerted us, maybe the Wasteland City incident could have been avoided.” Jiang Zhuge was somewhat dismayed.
However, Ye Chen defended, “We can’t just blame them. We were careless too. Even if they were at fault, so were we. The situation has already occurred, and dwelling on it won’t help. We should focus on our tasks instead. We need to prevent another incident like Wasteland City, that should be our main concern.”
Jiang Zhuge nodded after listening.
“By the way, have Can Mo and Kong Sha set out yet?”
Jiang Zhuge consulted his records and said, “They should have received our pigeon messages by now, and as soon as they do, they’ll be heading to the Heavenly City region.”
“Alright, let’s hope everything goes smoothly.”
“Master has been too nervous lately.”
“Have I?”
“Understandable, to be honest, I’m fairly tense myself.”
Ye Chen let out a small smile when he heard this.
Jiang Zhuge mentioned, “I get the feeling that many people in the mystical world seem pretty relaxed.”
“After a few battles and some casualties, they will start feeling the tension,” Ye Chen replied.
“But that tension will be paid for in blood.”
Ye Chen just smiled a little.
Jiang Zhuge suggested, “We should follow Su Hong’s advice, wait here in Immortal City awhile, see when the Mutant Winged Dragon comes out, what its plans are, then make our arrangements.”
“Seems like the only option we have,” agreed Ye Chen. After all, in these Central Plains, it was the domain of the mystical world people, they were better informed.
“Yeah, we’ll see how things go.”
“Sect Leader, if you don’t feel comfortable staying in Immortal City, you can go to Crane City instead. Leave what’s here to me,” Jiang Zhuge suggested, aware of Ye Chen’s past experiences from Li Mo.
“Yeah, it should only be a matter of days now. I don’t think I’ll be staying here too long. We’ll see,” answered Ye Chen.
Jiang Zhuge simply nodded.
Before he knew it, they had returned to the courtyard. It was already dusk.
The two maids were there chatting. When Ye Chen walked in, the two maids said, “We’ll go prepare the food.”
“No need, we just ate a while ago,” Ye Chen replied.
“You guys finished the discussion so soon?” the younger maid asked.
Ye Chen answered, “Does this seem fast to you? I wish it could be faster.”
The younger maid chuckled softly.
Ye Chen did not stay for long before he left again. Unable to stay in the courtyard, he preferred to go out for a walk to help clear his head, since events had affected him somewhat.
Not long after, Yu Yun arrived and asked, “Has Ye Chen returned?” She knew the meeting was over and had rushed over.
The older maid chuckled and said, “He was here, but he’s gone again.”
“You’re not tricking me, are you?” Yu Yun didn’t quite trust her. She went to Ye Chen’s room to check, only after seeing that Ye Chen wasn’t there did she believe the maid.
“We aren’t lying. He really did go out,” the older maid repeated.
“Where did he go?” Yu Yun asked.
The younger maid answered, “We have no idea of his whereabouts. Maybe he ran into a suitable young girl and found a new interest. It’s hard to say.”
“Nonsense, he just arrived at Immortal City.”
“Don’t be so sure. Ye Chen didn’t stay at Immortal City for a few months before? He met a lot of people during that period. You have no idea how many pretty girls there were. Your sister, wasn’t she someone he met back then? Maybe he went to see her,” the older maid said.
Yu Yun knew the younger maid was teasing her. Snorting, she responded, “Nonsense! He wouldn’t go find my sister casually.”
“How do you know?”
“You wouldn’t understand.”
“Yu Yun, wouldn’t it be more convenient for you to just live with us here? That way, you wouldn’t have to run back and forth so much. Sect Leader Su even asked Ye Chen to stay longer in Immortal City,” the older maid suggested.
Yu Yun stared suspiciously, she argued, “You people wouldn’t happen to know where that monkey went off to and are unwilling to tell me, are you?”
“How dare we do such a thing,” the older maid replied.
The younger maid teased Yu Yun again, “Tell us honestly, are you starting to like Ye Chen? If you are, we can help.”
“You, little devil!”
“Maybe, we should help you steam the raw rice into cooked rice?”
“Just the fact that I believed you guys makes me a fool! Let alone the cooking rice thing!” Yu Yun argued before leaving them alone, intending to head out.
The little and big girls both laughed.
Yu Yun really left.
Ye Chen felt somewhat heavy-hearted. Without realizing it, he had wandered to the edge of a lake. The lake was serene, reflecting the fading light of the setting sun. He wondered how long it would take for the Dragon Slaying Clan to reach Central Plains and what they could do when they arrived.
As he continued to walk, a familiar silhouette appeared in front of him. He wondered what the girl was doing here by herself and if something had happened. Confused, he approached her.
Indeed, he was correct. It was her.
He hesitated about whether to approach her. Just as he was wavering, the girl heard his footsteps and turned around, calling out, “Ye Chen.”
Ye Chen stopped in his tracks and turned back. Under the glow of the sunset, her face seemed more dazzling than ever.
He managed a small smile and asked, “What are you doing here alone?”
Yu Qing replied, “I was feeling stifled indoors, so I came out for a stroll.”
“Did Zhan Ze not accompany you?”
Yu Qing replied, “He can’t be with me all the time. He has his own affairs to attend to. These days, disciples from various sects of the Immortal and Demon realms have gathered in Immortal City. He’s rather busy.”
Ye Chen nodded faintly, looking at the distant lake surface without meeting Yu Qing’s gaze. He asked, “Are you doing well?”
“As well as I can be, I suppose,” Yu Qing casually replied, before asking, “And you?”
“I’m fine as well, it’s just that too many things have happened.” Both of them subconsciously found their interaction had grown awkward.
“Mmm, I heard about what happened with Wasteland City. Don’t get yourself entangled with it anymore, it’s time to move on from the past,” she said.
Her words seemed to carry a deeper meaning.
Ye Chen nodded, appearing suddenly more tense. Yu Qing was sitting by the trail on a long stone bench, turning her head to look at him.
“Who would have thought, in a blink of an eye, we’ve grown so much,” Yu Qing reflected.
“Indeed, in the blink of an eye, we’ve become adults. Getting married, becoming adults,” he replied.
“We’re all very happy you’ve survived these five years. Especially because you’ve achieved so much, we’re really proud of you,” she said.
“Heh, I didn’t have much choice in the matter,” he shrugged.
Yu Qing smiled faintly, “I’ve heard about what you did in Wasteland City. But, you must pick yourself up and start a new life. We always need to look forward.”
“Mmm.”
“Why am I telling you this? You’re so smart, I’m sure you’ve thought all this through,” she commented.
“That’s not necessarily the case,” he replied.
“Why didn’t I see you last night?” she asked.
“I was busy with some things last night,” he responded.
“That’s true, as the Sect Leader of the New City Sect, you must be busier than us,” she concluded.
“Heh, it’s not so much that I’m busy, it’s just that a lot of things have come up recently. It’s unavoidable,” he admitted.
“Indeed. Dealing with the Dragon Clan is indeed the most important thing now,” she acknowledged.
Ye Chen sighed, “I didn’t expect that you would end up marrying Zhan Ze.”
“Indeed, it seems this was fate,” Yu Qing turned her head to look at the lake.
“He’s always been fond of you. I’m sure he will treat you well,” he assured her.
Yu Qing nodded slightly in response.
“Why are you here alone? Why didn’t you bring a maid with you?” he asked.
“Why would I need to bring a maid? They’re busy. These days, there’s shortage of maids in Immortal City,” Yu Qing explained.
“I understand, but things will ease up in a few days,” he said.
“I heard that Alliance Leader Su summoned all of you leaders and Sect Leaders today to discuss dealing with the Dragon Clan,” she commented.
“Mmm,” he acknowledged.
“How did the discussion go?” she asked.
“What else could it be? We just followed his instructions,” he said.
“You don’t seem to hold the Alliance Leader in high esteem. I can understand, given everything that’s happened,” she observed.
“Not at all, I don’t harbour any ill feelings. Things are as they are. Everyone wants to defeat the Dragon Clan, so we’ll just have to work together,” he explained.
“I thought you didn’t come by last night because you were upset with me,” she assumed.
“Not at all,” Ye Chen laughed. “Life is good, make the most out of it. I can see you’ve had your fair share of hardships too.”
“You’re the one who’s had it hard all these years,” she countered.
“Me? I’m doing alright. Life is a series of fortunate and unfortunate events,” he said.
Yu Qing gave a small laugh, asking, “Then how did you join the New City Sect?”
“I was pulled into it by them,” he revealed.
“Well, that’s because you’re capable. If you weren’t, they wouldn’t have wanted you,” she pointed out.
Ye Chen chuckled.
